The thought of ANY Shia-led Iraqi government being a foil against Iran and it's intentions is pure folly. Quite the opposite is closer to the reality; they will be allies far more easily. It was Iran, afterall that took Maliki in when he fled Iraq years ago and even though Iraq has a new PM, Iran fully endorses him as well. This Iraq is NOT the Iraq that was at war with Iran in the 80s. This Iraq will side with Iran and the Ayatollah on most EVERY issue. They may not be in bed together, but they have adjoining rooms with a connecting door.

This is undeniable. He served as our check in that region for years, even before their war against Iran. And all the "he was a bad man and had to be taken out" rhetoric rings hollow, especially now.

ISIS is a direct threat to oil supplies, anyway. And I submit we wouldn't be doing a damned thing about them otherwise. I simply ask myself, "What are the common interests relative to oil production in OPEC countries and North Dakota?" In terms of the companies that bring the oil to market, they are one and the same. Now, these companies don't have to pay the exhorbitant royalties for what they produce outside of OPEC, but that doesn't mean they will cut off their nose to spite their face, either.

^This. You need a guy who can organize the various entities across a wide spectrum. He doesn't need to be an MD to accomplish that. Not at all. I think there are more benefits to this person being a NON medical professional, actually. There's a reason why the person tabbed to put together the Manhattan Project didn't need to be a physicist or some other kind of scientist, either. He just needed to be able to bring many people from disparate backgrounds together and keep them focused on the task at hand over an extended period of time.

If Ted Nolan was so unhappy about the PLF situation, if his sense of honor so insulted, he should have had the integrity to walk away instead of compromising his "principles" and accepting a lucrative coaching offer with a team he KNEW wasn't loaded with talent. Teddy was wrong to throw his team under the bus, no matter how much we agree with it. And it were MY team, I'd have no problem telling him that. I think I've overrated his ability as a coach. If his strength is motivation, then he has failed miserably. Which is a shame because he wouldn't know an X from an O on the whiteboard.
