The word filter allows Injun Joe but not Jim. It must like Tom Sawyer more than Huck Finn.

I have no problem with the use of any word, regardless of context. Words are nothing to be afraid of, after all. Words, even bad, politically incorrect words offer clarity into the character of those using them. When great literary works like 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' are deliberately not taught because of the N word, something has gone too far. Something far worse than the use of the word itself in even the most hateful of contexts.

I've known many black southerners over the years who are extremely proud of their southern heritage as well. None of them would consider flying the stars and bars as an expression of that pride. I wonder why. Do white desecendents of confederate soldiers hold the patent on expressions of southern pride? With all due respect, saying the stars and bars is just a symbol of pride in one's heritage is a crock and always has been.

Tim Connolly got a PhD?

Not all NHL players have to be exceptional skaters...
K-9 replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Aud Club
Agreed. Guy LaFleur was the best I ever saw at simply starting/stopping/starting again on his skates. He was uncanny at that. That skill alone helped him to find open spaces before anyone could shut them. Kinda like moving without the ball in basketball. I'm not sure how much top end speed helps in the confined space of a hockey rink. GO SABRES!!! -
I understand the spirit of your post, Yuri. The traitorous acts of the south have been romanticized to a brilliant golden shine over the last 150 years. I don't know why people feel the need to honor traitors to the country, but such is the land we live. I find it odd, if not outright insulting, to have that flag flying next to ours at government buildings in the south. Never sat well with me. I suspect it may actually be a deep southern shame rather than a proud heritage but that is a discussion for another time. I would just point out that the Union flag has a lot of blood on it as well and there may be people out there that would do to it what you propose doing to the stars and bars. Since Betsy Ross sewed the first one, our flag flew in the name of government sanctioned slavery and the genocide of an entire race of people on this continent. I would fully support their right to denounce it, too. After all, the right to do just that is symbolized by the very flag they would see torn down. The irony of that has always been profound to me.

I call bullschit on these reports about Eichel being an ass. All told, going back to last September with the lead-up to the prospects game, all throughout his college season, into the IIHF world tourney, the combine and all the hoopla, I think I've either heard or read interviews with him no less than two dozen times (probably more). The kid is 24-0 (at least) in those interviews. Absolutely ZERO douche factor in any of them. If you've heard or read anything his parents have said, it's easy to see why. I refuse to believe that's all an act and he somehow showed his true character with a couple teams at the combine. If I had to guess, it was a couple Canadian teams who couldn't stand the temerity of a young American boy saying he expects to be a better player than the Canadian McJesus. He has a confidence that actually registers while McJesus is far more subdued. If they mistook that confidence for arrogance, I suspect that may be an indication of why those teams suck in the first place. Not an indication of sound player evaluation. GO SABRES!!!

He said he wanted to start a war. That is about as political as it gets.

Just heard Bylsma say that at the presser, too. GO SABRES!!!

I believe it was Kaleta. GO SABRES!!!

You are thinking of when Melissandre met up with Thoros of Myr after he resurrected Dondarian for the sixth time. That was when she also met Arya Stark and told her she saw her staring through blue eyes and green eyes and brown eyes or something like that and that they would meet again. It's also when Thoros gives her Gendry to take back to Stanis to have him sacrificed but Davos helped him escape. Was that season three?

Thought I heard Doc E. say that only six Blackhawks have been around to win all three cups the last six years. Yes, that's a testament to the talented core they developed, but it's also an indication of how good their management is. Amazing, really.

It's only the end of season five. There's much more story to tell, obviously. You've outlined a ton of it above. We won't know the final payoff until the show ends, but with all the hopelessness this season engendered, there's good reason to believe that it will prevail eventually given all the unresolved conflicts. No doubt it felt like blunt force trauma at times, but that makes the resolution all that much better, imo. Something tells me the writers are perfectly ok with generating this kind of criticism. They've got their hooks in pretty deep based on what I've read from some viewers.

I would add that the Romans were about a helluva lot more than orgies, killing for sport, drug abuse, etc. Like the great civilizations before them, their contributions to mankind's advancement is immeasurable.

I'd much rather see Kane and Eichel together with Ennis. Heck, I might even throw Girgs on a wing with them from time to time. Some serious speed/skill combo with those guys. GO SABRES!!!

This is why I don't let the crazies keep me away from this place. GREAT STUFF!

Passing laws and adhering to them are two separate concepts as our own experience in this country has illustrated as well. The point is that the Russian government felt compelled to make such a radical departure from previous regimes as a result of the will of the people for it to happen. Pretty amazing.

Communist Russia may have created fear to openly express religious beliefs and driven that expression under ground, but I don't think that's the case anymore. A law passed in 1997 guarantees the right of all Russians the free exercise of religion.

I hear ya. I found it ironic that he cites Russia considering Russia's long history of diverse religious observance. As if communist Russia is the only Russia the world has ever known.

You mean they don't really have a purpose as assigned by humans. What purpose do whales have? How about turkey buzzards? Or the Irish?

Retribution depends on who Kaleta takes a run at. He takes runs at other teams' muckers like him. I don't recall Kaleta taking runs at the Crosbys of the league. I seriously doubt Kaleta's presence is a threat to our young players, especially with the likes of Foligno, Kane, Deslauriers, and Bogo to protect them. GO SABRES!!!
