The Trump Tariffs: Economic War
K-9 replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Oval Office (Politics)'s Topics
There is simply no end to the BS Trump pulls out of his a$$. Trillions of dollars. Laughable. -
WNY saw a 14% decline in Canadian crossings in February and officials here are worried about what the data will show for March. It is estimated that a 10% loss in Canadian tourism could coats $2.1b in revenues and upward of 14,000 jobs. I think it’s gonna be much more than a 10% as the numbers roll in month to month.

The Trump Tariffs: Economic War

Uninformed, lying sacks of crap. All of them. -
Disgusting. Elections are a farce in his country and not because of the bull$hit, non-existent mass “voter fraud” that the GOP insists always occurs when they lose (funny how it’s never when they win). Instead, elections are a farce because they are blatantly bought by the very rich who expect favors in return. And Citizens United open the floodgates for all sorts of dark money to be funneled to elections from foreign entities, with Russia being the worst. The principle of “one person, one vote”, the cornerstone of our representative democracy, has been rendered meaningless. But to actually purchase votes for a million dollars from individual voters raises it to a whole new level corruption.

And pay $6m per year to a corrupt foreign president to do it, too.

What are the odds that the man they admit to making a mistake on is the only deportee they made a mistake on? An innocent man, husband to a natural born US citizen and father of a disabled child, deported to a foreign land with no chance to get out since US courts have no jurisdiction, because of tattoos. TATTOOS! And the El Salvador president can only offer a mocking “tsk-tsk” to the judge as he collects his $6m a year from this criminal administration to take deportees from the US. And I’d like to know in what court EVER, the onus was on the judge to offer proof of anything. That may be the most absurd notion I’ve heard in this or any other forum.

The responsibility is on us as consumers to discern actual news facts based on reliable multiple sources vs. info-tainment and editorialization. While that often takes certain time and intellectual commitments to accomplish, common sense is the basis for it.

I predict many of the takes on Power these days will age the same way as those four year old takes on Dahlin did.
-
Imo, since Power isn’t the dominant player I predict he will be in 2-3 years then no, we won’t get a comparable player in return.
-
I’ll let you know if I agree in a couple years. And I’m more concerned with his hockey sense than I am his lack of physicality currently.
-
He’s only 22 and D men, especially tall, lanky D men can take a while, so I’d say at least another two or three years. And a complimentary partner is paramount, regardless.

Trading Power is something we will regret in a couple years. Byram can go yesterday as afaic.

We’ve changed cultural attitudes in our history and can certainly do that again, just as Europe and most of the developed world has done. Cultural change simply can’t be avoided as societies evolve and the founders understood this well. Cultural change is not dependent on everyone agreeing on what America “is.” It’s more about the values we already agree on. The reason I point to the last 40 years is that it’s been during that timeframe that misinformation/disinformation and other propaganda have been disseminated to the masses across a much wider populace and more often and with greater speed than before, without any check in place. Freedom of speech, like our other rights codified in our Constitution, is not an unlimited right. People live in their own information bubbles and that more than anything has created these ridiculous culture wars and prevented us focusing on those things we have in common that matter most to us, imo.
-
I can’t find much to disagree with here except the idea of moving to another country that aligns with what I believe. I’d much rather stay and fight for the changes the majority of Americans seek. I could ask the same of anyone who opposes my point of view as well, but that’s not gonna help anyway. I detest the “if you don’t like it, then leave” mentality. Gonna stay and fight to make things better for everyone instead. Interesting thoughts on the “culture” and how we are influenced by it. When our information streams are manipulated like they’ve been for 40 years, the culture wars are inevitable. It will take a couple generations to repair that damage, but it can be done. Again, another discussion entirely.

Making disagreements manageable is dependent on the Constitution and the rule of law. The fact that there are perpetual challenges those constructs illustrates that. Disagreements should be difficult, changes to it should be a challenge. That idea was referenced by our founders, so it’s nothing new. It is folly to think that we all need to agree on these matters. That is unrealistic at best. But it’s essential to question our elected leaders and hold them to account. If I offended anyone by bypassing the language filter, I apologize. Sometimes my frustration with the bozo in charge gets to be a bit much. But the least he and his followers can do is remember that he represents not only the maga voters that elected him. Anyone who gets less than 50% of a popular vote can’t claim a mandate and he should respect that. But he insists on running rough shod over the government anyway.

I no longer live under the illusion that most of us live our lives between the 45 yard lines. That may have been the case previously, but it hasn’t been for a long time; not since the advent of the culture wars that would have you believe it’s a battle between “conservative” vs “liberal.” Use to be the big debate was all about revenues and the allocation thereof. Now we argue about trivial crap like what bathroom trans people can use and who can marry whom. And that’s all by design but that’s a different discussion. If extremism means bringing us up to the basic standards of the vast majority of the civilized world, then so be it. So I propose Dems should copy the Western European model and propose policies that provide universal health care and education to the citizenry. Unlike far right radicals, I believe that a healthy, well educated citizenry is essential to our national security. And no, I’m not proposing a socialist system of government, which is what the right starts shouting whenever they hear “universal health care” and “free education.” And yes, that means raising the tax rates of the super wealthy. At a minimum, they should return to pre-Reagan era rates. Dems also need to convince people that the key to these programs is a booming, free-market economy. And it’s utter bull$hit that high taxes on the ultra rich will mean loss of jobs and hurt the economy. That’s supply-side voodoo economics as Bush I would describe it. The key to a booming economy is demand side economics which, ironically, helped to create the greatest middle class in the world and it was post WWII government policies that were the catalyst to that growth. Policies that both Dems and GOP politicians helped to get these programs passed. This is historical fact and it too, is another discussion entirely.

Once the preeminent organization of its kind in the world. IN THE WORLD!!! And we are reducing it to a 3rd world level. All because Donald “we need to stop testing and that way we will have less cases” Trump who won’t let another pandemic derail his administration like COVID 19 did. These morons have made us less secure, less healthy, and more vulnerable in a matter of weeks. So much for MAGA to be proud of.

Lol. I posted the exact same response a half hour ago. Great minds, Punch, great minds indeed.
