  1. I do. I think there will be better options. The one interesting thing is that if there is a compressed schedule, teams may want a veteran for their third goalie spot as well.
  2. I know. People whose opinion I trust think him and Smith could be intriguing prospects. Nothing you would count on but a chance to be decent depth players.
  3. Still scored 15 goals and apparently his underlying numbers were very good.
  4. It’s the new financial landscape, especially with all the goaltenders available.
  5. A) actually they do B) I’m on record as wanting Larsson back C) I’m an Okposo fan. My hope is that fourth line is Larsson, Okposo and ???! D) I think Lazar, Oglivie and Smith all will compete for 12/13th forward E) guys like Smith and Oglivie come out of nowhere all the time. Sometimes they just click. I didn’t say I’m counting on it, I very much doubt if all 3 see significant ice time but, unlike you, I don’t have a crystal ball. It’s why even the staunchest analytic guys created the “outlier.” Because it happens and I predict this year, with every team struggling to be under the cap, it will happen more often throughout the league.
  6. If he’s in Rochester, he’s top 6.
  7. Larsson is exactly the kind of guy teams going into playoffs look to acquire. If they can lock him up at a reasonable price, they should do it.
  8. Yes, we want to complain that they never get contributions from undrafted players but think that the Sabre’s can’t win if any of theirs make a contribution. Every Cup winner gets contributions from guys like Smith and Oglivie.
  9. I haven’t given up on retaining Larsson only because I can’t see him getting a lot of offers with most of the contenders cap strapped. I could see him going overseas for a year.
  10. I think oglevie and cj smith will both be given a shot at fourth line wingers
  11. I guarantee that will not happen.
  12. There you go, him on the left, Okposo on the right, might be the slowest line in the NHL.
  13. The problem becomes when those supporting the likely outcome use absolutes and insist there is no chance. It’s always nice that whenever they are wrong about someone they just fall back to that “outlier” excuse.
  14. I’m almost positive there used to be a “clean hands” provision where they would call the roughing penalty.
  15. Travel and back n forth to the coast is underrated. That’s why Buffalo’s stretch of Vegas, Nashville and a Thursday night game against KC will be a monumental task.
  16. $4.2 million is a lot to pay for a 2nd round draft choice. Even if they get another 4th for him at the deadline, that’s more then I would pay. Add to that you would be trying to win while having over 20% of your cap space tied up in Marc Staal, Kyle Okposo and Risto or, in another way, in a 4th line winger, a 2nd pairing and a 3rd pairing defenseman.
  17. And as Tampa’s struggles to get to this point prove, being the best doesn’t guarantee you are winning the Cup or even that you are making the finals. Every year someone posts one of these threads but as others have proven, it really doesn’t take that long to change your fortunes if you get a little lucky and prove to be a little shrewd.
  18. I was wondering sane thing. KHL is a mess. I think there is a deal to be made there.
  19. The Bills dominated the Jets. Only you and Gregg Williams think they barely won.
  20. But that’s so subjective. Allen throws a TD to Davis were only he could catch it and they call it a poor throw. Mshoomes throws a pass that Hardman makes an incredible catch and they marvel at Mahommes vision and ability to throw at all different angles and trajectory. We finally have receivers that can catch the ball and now they want to deduct points based on catch radius. Whatever.
  21. I’ll ignore the lifestyle quote but I wouldn’t give up that for Kessel either.
  22. I think, like Freddy Andersen, he had a $5M bonus so he is actually only $1M cash this year and $6M next year.
  23. Don’t forget, they didn’t draft Marques Johnson because they had Dantley and then traded Dantley for Billy Knight. They shot themselves in the foot a lot. One thing to remember though, is that these were pre Bird/ Johnson days and the NBA was struggling. Their finals were even on tape delay. That made it difficult for Snyder to find a buyer.
  24. Fact of the matter is that Snyder actually saved the ownership early on when original owner bailed. It would have been great if he was able to foster a better relationship with Bob Rich or Seymour Knox. Eddie Donovan has built a team ahead of its time and made some smart, savvy moves. He wasn’t afraid to take chances. He drafted McAdoo when everyone thought he was signed with ABA, even tried to draft Spencer Heywood and thought he deserved Artis Gilmore because of earlier trade with Bulls. There are still people that will tell you the Braves had a deal for Doctor J before Nets got him. They needed an owner with the same foresight. We will never know.
  25. What an amazing front court that would have been. Malone and Dantley dominating inside, McAdoo running free outside. What a match up nightmare. The small forward a baby bull, the power forward a gazelle and they were 21, 21 and 25 years old with a 22 year old Shumate able to backup both at center and power forward and I think Jack Marin would have backed up AD.
