Game changer: Personally set how you want your links to work
PASabreFan replied to SDS's topic in The Aud Club
This is a little confusing. If "Take me to the beginning" is the default, does that mean if I click on any link (title of thread, circle or star, link to last post), I go to the beginning? That's apparently not the case, as the board links work the way they always did. Or do I have to hit Save to enact the default preference? And why would anyone always want to go the beginning? I wouldn't blame a light board user for not knowing this, but we've always had the flexibility to go wherever we wanted. The thread title takes you to the beginning, the circle or star takes you to the first unread post and the time since the last post takes you to the latest post. (The circle and star do the same thing; the star indicates you've posted in the thread.) Now someone can tell me I've been doing it wrong for lo these many years. -
The Author button seems a bit useless. You're conditioned to want to click on it, and of course it's not linked to anything.

I noticed that the edit feature is harder to find now. I wonder if that was by design (desire to have fewer edited posts). Of course people like me can't be stopped!

Here's a good primer on what x% efficacy means (and we should be saying efficacy, not effective). https://scroll.in/article/979627/a-statistician-explains-what-does-90-efficacy-for-a-covid-19-vaccine-mean The CP article NS posted has a bit of a strawman in it. Of course 95% efficacy doesn't mean 95% of the people who are vaccinated have no chance of getting Covid. Who even claimed that? The scroll.in article above makes a key point. Efficacy so far is only an indication of the vaccine's performance in the short run. If protection wanes, that efficacy could be lower. Which of course could be an argument for waiting to release the vaccine. The article got me to thinking about how interesting it will/would be to see what side effects are observed in the placebo vs. the vaccine group, given the very real mind-body connection.

Do we want to see him play first? I'm asking for a friend. But, carrion by all means.

Vaccines will still be recommended for those previously infected because little is known about ongoing immunity. It sounds like I'll be near the head of the line. I'll be getting mine squarely in my TPEGS4LIFE tat. I might be rooting for a requirement for vaccination as a proxy way of weeding out folks who shouldn't be working in health care. Work with old folks and won't get it? You are scummy.

Will healthcare workers be required to get a vaccine? That'll be interesting to follow. Medicare and Medicaid could tie reimbursements to such a requirement. In my narrow experience, a requirement will be necessary to get all workers vaccinated. I'm hearing co-workers say they don't want to be "guinea pigs."

Chuckle. Terry didn't meddle, but it sure sounds like he tried. What was the point of talking up Mahomes? Classy victory lap here by the "football guy." And an odd thing to talk about when you appear to have found your franchise QB. Anyway I never said Terry meddled in the Bills.

But ole @SDS here is trying to find a clever new slogan for this site. For example, we used to have, "The hardest cheering fans in hockey."
-
Let's hope there's enough vaccine to vaccinate healthcare workers and the vulnerable at roughly the same time. The tricky part is figuring out who is the most vulnerable. We have probably north of 100 million people who have underlying conditions of some sort. Not all of them can go to the front of the line.

Dr. Fauci hits back on the idea that the process was rushed or that safety was compromised. He was talking yesterday about technical advances that sped up the process this time. Also, pharma companies have been producing vaccines "at risk," which means producing them before approval so they're ready to go if the OK comes. If. They could also lose tons of money using this approach. Remember that back in the early days (March maybe?), Dr. Fauci said vaccines take a long time to produce but that we could have one by January. So we're really pretty much on the normal schedule he envisioned. Finally, the reason vaccines aren't being distributed right now is that they're waiting for enough time to pass to be sure there won't be serious side effects in a 60-day window.

Folks in LTCFs can't isolate.

Appreciation should have nothing to do with it.

Experts have experted but WTF do they know. Also Sweden says hello (with a dry cough).

So just use the team's old slogan? Sharpen Your Point is the obvious winner. I have no idea what's preventing it from being officially declared as such.

Go on...

More gum-flapping. Terrific.

[Offseason] Which was the worst best-selling album of the 80s?

It'll be an interesting challenge. Like taking an appeal to the Supreme Court. That of course is higher than SDS even.

We don't believe in experts anymore. We know better. People who know more can't possibly be making the right decisions. As for orange once it's back in the private sector all bets are off on discussing it, right?

Green is what we thought it was!

Is The Observation Effect a plus or a minus here? Having to look like an NHL franchise for the cameras can't be a bad thing, can it?
-
The thing I wonder about is whether it makes sense to vaccinate the residents first.

Do you know who you're dealing with here?
