  1. My prediction is that Hodgson, after being demoted to the fourth line, immediately finds himself back on the top line. For no good reason.

That's how it usually goes. Coaches want to act like tough-love parents sometimes, but in reality they have many fewer weapons in their arsenal than Mom and Dad do.

  2. There still isn't much clarity about whether Bob was with Gareth and company before. I still don't think he was. The theory rests largely on Gareth referring to Bob by name, but then he walked into the church and announced everyone's name, including those who had left.

So how was Bob bit on the shoulder without anyone noticing blood on his shirt, a torn shirt, etc.? Pretty lame.

(And, come to think of it, how did Gareth know all the names?)

  3. I don't even remotely see the connection here. All of them are gone, and the real big ones were jettisoned by the new GM. If anything, the new GM being able to undo these moves points to a lack of ownership meddling.

Edit: particularly with Ehrhoff, wouldn't the meddling owner want to keep his prize acquisition?

What bunomatic wrote, or he has learned his lesson. As long as hockey people dangled the carrot, I guess I'm fine with either scenario.

So he's following the advice of his expert advisors? That's not meddling, not even by PA's standards.

I don't think of Terry as the president and his hockey people as his cabinet. The buck shouldn't stop with Terry. I see Terry as more of the rubber-stamper. (I tried to work in a pocket veto reference, but couldn't. But... I got your pocket veto right here!)

  4. The Flyers also scored a playoff goal on a puck that went through the side of the net in 2000.

This thread can easily turn into an airing of grievances with the Hockey Gods.....

According to this list, the Sabres are involved in three of the five most controversial goals in NHL playoff history. And on the wrong side of all of them.

Holy moly, I can't think of what the third one would be.

  5. Agreed. I'd also be somewhat surprised if the Isles pick isn't a lottery pick. There's plenty of time for them to go full-blown Is-land-ers.

Two things trending against the Isles are that Halak, apparently, hasn't been as advertised — they score a ton of goals, but they're giving up more than they did last year — and November is coming. Novembers have been incredibly destructive for that franchise for quite a few years. Dare I say it's been The Wreck of the Thomas Fitzgerald over there?

  6. If Nolan's "pee wee" and "I learned" comments indicate that he's unhappy with the hand he's been dealt, does it at all lend some clarity to the Pat LaFontaine Mystery? Terry hires Pat to be president, Pat thinks he has real power to determine the direction of the franchise, and Ted thinks he's coming on board for a quick-ish turnaround. Terry's enamored of McDavid, the braintrust is set on tanking, and Pat loses the power struggle, leaving Ted in the lurch?

  7. OK, so do you tailor the system to the players you have now — who suck? Or do you put the system in place now that you want to use when the talent is there, even though that system will fail miserably? Or is there truly no system, just "wax on, wax off" to break these guys down and start with the very basics — instilling the want to break through a brick wall to win?

Interesting debate. But I would be flabbergasted if Nolan is this idiot who has no system whatsoever and doesn't have ideas for breakouts/entries/retrievals and the like.

  8. So you had no idea what X was, but you *knew* X caused Y. Maybe it's possible that without any NHL coaching experience you're in no position to attribute causality ;)

All I'm saying is what people are doing now with Nolan is no "worse" (not sure if that's the right word, but I'm going with it) than what you did with Ruff.

16 years, dude. Aren't you one of these big sample size guys?

  9. I hope he is doing well , but the lack of news really has me worried. I never told anyone on this board here.

But i don't have any connections to buffalo.

There are only few things that connect me to the sabres.

First came NHL2000, buffalo sabres logo appealled to me , and you had some dude named "satan" .

Barnes, brown, Hasek and Peca, rasmussen, sanderson, Mckee, they all got me going.

Drury, briere, Dumont, Afinigenov, Roy, Pominville, vanek, and especially Miller ( still got the most respect for this guy, he came each night for a win).

But what got me fall in love with this team is RJ, he is the true fan, the true believer; i want his voice on the background when we raise the cup.

I know im just from Europe, but try watching a game at 01.00 am, without RJ, it just isn't the same.

The passion coming from his voice , for this team, got me hooked more than any player could.

I really hope he is getting better, I don't care if he ever gets behind the play by play again, I want him to see the sabres raise the cup.

    Thank you RJ,

    From a fan of you.

Beautiful. We share the universal language of Jeanneret. He's why I'm a fan too.
