  1. So I'm trying to look at a couple basic numbers to figure out if Ovechkin is helping the team or not. Of his 50 goals, 23 are PPG, so that means 27 ESG. He's -34, which means he has been on the ice for 61 ES GA (not counting any PK time or SHG against), right? That's a quarter of the teams 237 total GA, where his TOI is around 20:00, or a third of the game. He's accounted for 50 of 226 GF, roughly 22%. I don't really have a feel for the numbers, but it *almost* feels like he's doing more harm than good, as absurd as that sounds.
  2. The first is fine, the second is questionable. For the total losses in comparison to team history, you have to remove any SO losses since pre 2006, those would have been ties. If you like, you can remove the SO wins and make those ties too.
  3. I don't think when we're talking "history" you can count OT losses in the same way with the whole SO loss thing. So yes, this is a bad season. Probably the worst Sabres season ever. You don't need (questionable?) statistics to determine that. :) You know what? I'll take another season of the same. I have enough going on that seeing the Sabres lose a bunch of games is fine with me as long as there can be some hope in the long run. I've watched 70+ games this year, and it's really not having the negative effect on my brain that I thought it would.
  4. 2+2=5 only for very large values of 2. I heard this morning that KFC has a trial of some sort of sweet and sour cup in Baltimore, which includes funnel-cake fries and chicken. KFC is also in the "eh, screw it" camp (other than their "healthy" chicken with no breading). A guy I know thinks they're better than the wings in Buffalo. I think he's a meth-head or something; he should know better as he grew up in West Seneca.
  5. I don't think TM was worried about the Islanders 1st round pick at the time.
  6. :w00t:
  7. That's just messed up, you'd think 90% of people (at least) would be pissed and ready to show STL what they gave away.
  8. The only problem is very few 20-year-olds have any choice in the matter. I like McCabe's statement, but he was either playing in the Sabres system or college for another year (at which point he'd be UFA (right?)), so it's not like he's really choosing the Sabres over anything else. Perhaps there might be a player that forgoes signing a contract at 20 to play their last year in college and then signs with the Sabres, but that's a tall order. You flash more money than most of us will make in a decade in front of a 20-year-old and he'd probably skate wherever you tell him.
  9. I don't disagree that it sucks, but they have to pay real people to make their software work with newer versions of Office and Windows and that money has to come from somewhere. Oh, to be young and single... :)
  10. At least I didn't say associate.
  11. FWIW, I planted one of those "Live Basil" plants you see at the grocery store a couple years ago. By the end of the summer I have a 4 ft. tall basil bush in my next to my front door. It's great if you like Italian food!
  12. There can be only one (and two assistants)!
  13. I'm kinda with you. He seems OK, but I'm afraid he's just not big enough to play D if he's not a point-producing machine or bring something else, because I don't think he'll be able to defend against a lot of forwards.
  14. We'll never get to Oregon now!
  15. Bangkok was pretty crazy. I didn't drive there, though. From what I saw from bus and taxis, it's like a big city where people will squeeze to within a foot of each other and never give an inch. The odd thing is no one gets mad about it, there were very few horns. The Thai people in general are laid back, so they seemed to have the attitude that "yeah, you pushed in and I would have done the same". The main problem there is it's not laid out that well so there's always traffic and there's often not large roads to get places. Tons, and I mean tons of small motorcycles and scooters filter up between the cars to get to the lights (as expected). It's actually the fastest way to travel so there are hordes of scooter taxis where you hop on the back and ride to your destination.
  16. I believe it's spelled Hookt-onn-fonix.
  17. I'm thinking about nabbing tickets to the Flyers game here, but they're still playing well so the tickets aren't dirt cheap. :(
  18. That'd make a really cool tattoo. Also, until the Flappers in the 1920s it was rather risque to show some ankle. I like this direction SS is taking!
  19. So, has anyone been watching Toronto that can give some details on which manner they lost 8 in a row to fall out of the playoffs? Is it injuries or are they playing like every early-season Sabres team?
  20. Bold: why would any prospective QB be short term in that situation, unless they were planning on drafting a new QB high in the draft? :) Second statement: on that, I completely agree. The same could probably be said for Luck if the Bills had the gumption to do what the Colts (or any of the other recent teams that drafted an early QB) did.
  21. So far this season (from what I've heard here), Armia has done very little to play his way onto that list. Maybe he's just adjusting, maybe he never will. Those guys minus Compher have already shown positives in the NHL.
  22. Any of the Bills' revolving door of QBs (I can't be bothered to see which would have been recently cut in the summer of 2012) could have led them to 6-10. Unless you're saying the 10-6 2011 Colts were worse than the Bills in most postions other than QB.
  23. Man, the long 2nd period change in that rink is *tough*.
  24. The Pens were in year 1 of their planned tank, picking a good center may have pushed them out of the last spot for the next year. They had to be bad to get Crosby!
