I am not a baseball fan so I don’t know how good his English is. Hasn’t he been in North America for a few years now?

Yeah, I don’t think it’s possible to be in a locker room for 162 games over multiple years and not pick up a good understanding of the language. Keeping the translator around though is a very nice layer of protection though, a smart move.

The facts as they're now emerging seem to make sense. The initial confusion over Shohei "saying" one thing about hoe he agreed to pay for his friend's gambling debts, and then doing a 180 a day later, is apparently a product of the fact that the guy who was stealing his money (to pay for his gambling debts) was Shohei's translator/interpreter and was therefore speaking on Shohei's behalf as an initial matter. What an incredible mess.

I keep thinking of the irony of legalized gambling. Days gone by, everyone smoked cigarettes everywhere but gambling was verboten -- something a local mob capo might run as a racket. Nowadays, everyone gambles everywhere but smoking is verboten. In both cases, the government was/is there taking its cut from the sales of a legalized vice.

It helps a ton in spots like this when you can play the “no speak English” card.

Rod Brind’ Amour. Carolina has still not extended him and there have been rumors that Buffalo would offer to make him the highest paid coach in the NHL. First, he’s likely to stay. Second, like Babcock before him, his wife would likely veto any move to Buffalo.

I think it’s time for a lesson on acronyms.

I don’t see Adams getting fired. He really is good organizationally and is ideally suited to be President with Karmonis taking over as GM. In an ideal world that would happen this year along with RBM taking over as highest paid coach in the league but there are a few reasons that won’t happen

    RBM?

***** Boston. It's just really cool to see such a small local school make it to the show. Who wants to see the Terriers or Eagles year after year. This is already a win for RIT's  program. ***** on it all you want.

***** on it? You get to see the upcoming #1 pick. Enjoy it.

I’ve always thought dropping the gloves and fighting was stupid. I’m a fan of scrums and scrimmages after chippy play or when someone takes a cheap shot because that’s legit emotion

Scrimmages? So what do they do, just call or the game after a choppy play and say the rest of the time on the ice doesn’t count?

Yeah - this new COO's role could be more strategic than operational.

That said, I remain curious: Who's actually employing him? Like, where's his W-2 (or where are his W-2s) coming from at tax time?

Do they not have an LLC (or whatever the appropriate term is) anymore?

They could hire Jesus and some of you guys would still have complaints

He would actually be the perfect person for the new roof.

I took a quick buzz through the Buffalo News article on the hiring.

The news struck me as encouraging - perhaps very encouraging.

The guy's got substantial experience in pro sports management. He's plugged in on the NFL ownership level. He's coming to the Bills from the Giants, which is a well-regarded NFL franchise.

I thought that train between Buffalo and the Giants only was only one way to NJ.

I still think the Flyers are one of the teams that will fall out of the race. Trading them EJ was a 4D chess move and should be the grease that slide needed.

How about the scenario where Tampa, Detroit, and Buffalo all finish ahead of the 3rd place metro team but one still misses out on the playoffs? That would make for some fun complaints.

Don’t overlook the Flyers as a candidate to fall back.  They have a very tough schedule.  I expect them to be on a 7 game losing streak 5 games from now.

And then there’s this. They’re stuck with Johansen because he says he’s hurt.

You'll just have to connect the dots.

Could you imagine sitting down to what to what you think is going to be another thrilling connect the dots experience… and it winds up just being a straight line

    Leafs dart guy avatar.

I had some great private message conversations with him years back. I want to go back and see if they still exist. It was fun stuff about the youth hockey when he was growing up.

There are a lot of wacked out NFL players... WR's seem to be chock full of interesting personalities.

Perhaps Diggs likes stirring the pot as some sort of statement on the drama of social media and the general public's desire to engage in it.

Then again.. perhaps he's just bored.

    Or... he's wacked out.

If I was a child of the social media era, I would be messing with people’s heads constantly. The more cryptic the better and it would be a daily thing.
