It does reflect a little bit though, of how playoff and championship calibre teams operate v. teams like the Sabres. The Oilers have 3 picks in the forthcoming draft (rd 3, 6, 7). The Sabres currently have 10 picks (choose your metaphor: hamster wheel? treadmill? merry go-round?). If you are the Oilers, why hold mid-round picks when you can just wait for a team like the Sabres to pass on signing a 5th rd pick who, by any reasonable measure, has significantly outperformed their draft position.

I, as most everyone, am sympathetic to his tough family situation. But it should be acknowledged that right from the start of his ownership he has made a lot of perplexing decisions that has anchored this franchise to the bottom of the heap. Being preoccupied with a serious family situation should have been a greater reason to find competent staff to guide the franchise. He did the opposite. Not trying to be mean-spirited but I wish he would sell.

And it is easy for us to forget Kim’s situation and the emotional toll and time that takes on him.

yup, and a team that wants to win right now will make a move to get him.

I have no doubt Pegula has Appert penciled in as next HC. He seems to fall for charismatic people. He hired Lafontaine based on one chance meeting where he was blown away by his charisma. I’m sure he sees the same in Seth. Just hire DeBoer and get serious about being a serious organization.

Thanks @Archie Lee, upon further review Adams does indeed indicate that Lindy wanted to "get to know" the staff and he could have made changes. Given that no changes have been made so far we can assume Lindy is on board with this group. I should have taken your advice and not re-watched the rest of it.

Would love to hire DeBoer but they won't for many reasons and money is just one. DeBoer would want to run things his way, he will not like the roster as constructed, he would not like the layers you describe (Jarmo/Lindy/Kevyn/Terry) to have to navigate through just to make roster moves.

Maybe Lindy reached out and couldn’t get any takers? Or, was part of his job to evaluate the coaches in our system? Or…..were they dictated to him as he really had no other options?

Weird. The Vancouver Canucks GM and President of Hockey Ops did not come for the combine. They sent the director of scouting and AGM. I understand there's a lot of talk about them trading that 1st rounder but that's just lazy and you aren't doing due diligence.

His consolidated rank is 9th, his EP rank is 6th. If Terry gets enamored because Penn State it wouldn't surprise me, it's the type of lazy doopy thing he's capable of. For me, I'd hate only from the standpoint of having to wait for the Owen Power trade that would eventually follow in 2-4yrs. I think Smith has more jam than Power has even dreamed of.

5-19.5 is... what... 6'8"... he skates really well for his height. Yes, I already read the end of the thread and he's a lock for top 8 because anyone will just list him at 5-11 on their roster anyway.

It looks like right now he's signed with Kärpät for Liiga next season, but he could probably opt over to the AHL if Bakersfield has an opening. He's grown his game as a distributor with TPS (probably too much as he plummeted to only 8 goals). I hope he gets to the AHL to show what he can do on the NA ice.

Personally, absolutely nothing. Trade the pick, Martin, Carbonneau would be this kid's personal preference atm. But, seeing PS gets that Spidersense tingling.

Actually, the real question is would Jackson Smith end up better than Owen Power?
