  1. Past hour
  2. I’d imagine Edmonton retreats right back into the igloo if McDavid escapes them - the difference between buffalo and Edmonton is merely the bounce of those balls - - - management didn’t get the idea to tank from the fans come on now. We merely concocted it into a potentially viable strategy, in theory, after the fact for them because putting more thought into their strategies than they do is what we do around here. If the team employed the level of passionate thinking to their strategy dudacek does after the fact, in the first place, we’d instead be benefiting from his explanations for why it DID work
  3. The smarter play would be to just sign Reimer to a one year deal.
  4. I am more confident in a guy who was one of the best goalies in the AHL last year with great numbers then Georgiev who was awful awful awful last year. Plus there is a small chance we could catch lighting in a bottle here. Ellis was is a year older then Levi so right at that key time where goalies catch fire! This could be a sneaky good pick up! And lets face it there is not any options out there other then this, is Hellybuck available? Is Tampa trading Vasilevsky? Is the Islanders trading Sorokin? No! These players dont get moved almost ever! This has a real chance to be an improvement. I know we all like to ***** on KA for everything he does but this is an improvement. Ellis is better then Georgiev right now, full stop. What this also allows is it allows Levi to stay as the starter in Roch, cause if they are done with Georgiev (which I will bet my left nut that they waive him tonight) Then someone needs to back up Lyon and that would have to Levi, and maybe he sits on the bench for too long. This way we bring a goalie that is better then Georgiev but still allows Levi to develop. And maybe we catch lightning in a bottle here. It is more likely that Ellis becomes something then Georgiev suddenly becomes good again. Sorry for ranting, I just do truly think the team is better with this player on it, not substantially, ill be honest. But better, with a chance to be really good.
  5. He's essentially the same age as Binnington was when he was loaned to San Antonio because he was so far down the depth chart they didn't even want him as their primary AHLer and ended up gettting recalled to the parent club and won the SC. Goalies are weird; this is a goalie in St. Louis' system and they are even weirder about goalies than goalies are. And w/ all that said, not expecting much of anything from him except ensuring Georgiev never sees a RS game in Sabre blue and gold (nor Sabre red and black, for that matter 😉 ).
  6. Right. But when he signed that deal, what was its share of the team's total cap? Sheesh. This actually makes me think that there must've been one of those Kahwi Leonard side agreement / no show deals for Brady.
  7. This is almost always the case. A lot of confirmation bias involved
  8. Are you asking 12.5 x3 (including the current year) or 12.5x1 + 20x8? I would take the former *if I were the Oilers.* The Sabres? Different story. The Sabres need to build credibility. The Oilers have been to the Final in the last two seasons, and the semi-finals in three of the last four. The Sabres are a laughingstock right now (mostly because management took a bad decision advanced by posters here about 12-13 years ago) which needs to build cred to attract better players.
  9. For 30 days, yes, St. Louis could claim him from Buffalo and send him down without re-reclearing waivers (presuming Sabres were only team making claim; don't recall ottomh the exact mechanics if more than just Buffalo put in a claim). If he stays on the Sabres for a full month, then St. Louis would be in the same pack as everyone else should Buffalo try to send him to Ra-cha-cha.
  10. Isn’t Ellis a career AHLer? If UPL has to compete to replace him at all we are in trouble
  11. Sure—but that is very unlikely because it is unlikely Ellis would clear waivers when we waive him. He can get re-claimed by the Blues and sent to the AHL (which is what they wanted to do all along). Georgiev wasn’t here until training camp and only signed because of an injury.
  12. Ooooorr, Jacksonville could have Ratzlaff, Leinonen, and Georgiev. 😉
  13. Ellis has to be on the NHL roster now that he was claimed. If we want to send him to the minors he has to go waivers again, and if he clears, then St Louis can claim him back, just like we did with Reimer last year
  14. Someone said it was a panic move and I think that may make sense... But I am going back to, I have no idea on what level Adams is thinking... I feel like he knows he is on the plank and is thrashing about...
  15. If UPL gets healthy and shares the net with Lyon then Rochester could have Levi, Georgiev and Ellis.
  16. Levis stats in the AHL last year: 2024-25 Rochester Americans 42 25 13 4 2.20 .919 7 0 Ellis's stats in the AHL last year: 2024-25 Springfield Thunderbirds 42 22 14 2 2.63 .922 3 0 Keep in mind Roch was one of the best teams in the league and Springfield barely broke the .500 line. This is a good pick up! We all saw what Georgiev was....***** So this a good hedge to those bets Lyon Ellis Until UPL is back, which my guess may be awhile, then UPL has to compete to unseat one of these two. Georgiev can go on waivers and if he is claimed too bad! I would almost bet my life savings that no one would claim him! We are all screaming about how crappy he is and then everyone is scared he is gonna get claimed on waivers? No way, Georgiev will clear and he can go back up Levi in Roch.
  17. It goes back to... why on earth did Georgiev get anything more than a PTO?
  18. McDavid is trying to give the GM some money to get more talent while Kaprizov doesn’t care about winning, just his bank account.
  19. I see the current AAV as a big silver lining - to your point. But it’s firmly in “silver lining” category. I wouldn’t used “saddled”, I’d used “graced”. McDavid was a lottery ball godsend to the only market ranked below winnipeg and buffalo re: player destination The marketability and jersey sales etc etc alone make him an egregiously valuable asset, he’s the face of the league. Nm fact realistically he’s gojng to be exceptional till probably 40. This isn’t Alex Tuch, it’s the most talented player to ever play the game I can’t call it saddled when we all know the oilers would take that deal to the bank, running, if they could - - - If the Sabres could have McDavid at either deal, which do you personally take? I take McDavid for a decade and cry myself to sleep in happiness, with one solitary tear reserved for Terry’s fat wallet
  20. The organization needed another goalie for Rochester either way. The Amerks are legitimately good and giving 30 games to one of Topias Leinonen or Scott Ratzlaff would be a terrible idea. What’s scary is it took a UPL injury for KA to do anything.
  21. I can’t see the McDavid deal used in any way to artificially lower the value of every new deal now for the foreseeable future. I don’t think people will pretend it’s anything but an anomaly - otherwise he effed over the nhlpa lol
  22. Kasparov got $17M and McJeaus gets $12.5M?
  23. I guess I just see it the other way. Looks like a smart deal to me, and the Oilers aren't saddled with a 20M/yr contract until McDavid is 36 or 37.
  24. Can someone explain to me what the expected setup is in net? Actually asking. All of these guys apart from UPL and Levi look like the made-up guys perennially sitting in “free agents” in the EA sports games and I stopped paying attention to goalie ads after several years because of proven incompetence when addressing position being thoroughly stamped in as a Rushmore staple of Adams’ tenure I’d take panic tbh rather than a reflection of the fact Adams has no real expectations foisted upon him
  25. https://thehockeywriters.com/blues-ahl-goalie-colten-ellis-provides-team-with-a-future-option-in-net/ The only thing for me is he basically sounds like Levi Now with him getting claimed he will have to be on the NHL roster or we have to waive him, and if he clears then St Louis can take him back
