Are there major changes coming this summer and who will make them?
rickshaw replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
The Canucks may be a good trading partner. They need to keep Quinn Hughes happy and he’s buds with Norris. If Petersson is still available is that something Buffalo considers? Norris and another piece could make that happen? Just pure speculation of course. -
JJ doesn’t have much leverage. If he wants out that’s fine but the way I see it is, he’s Sabres property and they own his rights for two more years. He can sign a bridge deal and keep proving his worth. But he still has to perform or he won’t get more down the road. If he’s traded and it’s an even swap or upgrade where needed that’s fine too. If he offer sheeted and signs it, he better hope it’s for the over $9 million per otherwise we will just match it and he’s here longer. I would hope we can tell him he’s not going anywhere and he keeps getting better. But he’s in no position to dictate things. I’m rambling but if we don’t want to move him and he’s that unhappy then he can hold out and we can just sit him. Play hardball. It does him no good to sulk. We can’t just farm out players as they start hitting their stride.

Marchand and Bennett have been so clutch. Just laying out every shift.

I’m now at the point mentally where I’m expecting to be completely underwhelmed with the draft, free agency and any trades they might make. I think I’m officially in the “Sisyphus and the boulder” phase of Sabres fandom. - Today

Houston has to be my least favorite big city to visit. I just hate it there. Moving the team to Houston and keeping the name Sabres would be the worst thing that can happen. When the Buffalo Braves became the San Diego Clippers the name change provided me with enough insulation to let them go.

I wouldn’t hate Peterka for Kyrou. It is at least getting an established NHL player in return. They are offensively similar and I think Kyrou’s defensive game has improved. Kyrou is 4 years older than Peterka. Like Peterka he was a 2nd round pick. He was drafted out of major junior by a St Louis team full of vets, so there was no quick path to the NHL like Peterka had. In his D5 year, which Peterka just completed, Kyrou had 35 points in 55 games (Covid year). Since then he has put up offensive numbers equal to what Peterka did this year (73 pts per 82 games). Kyrou signed his current 8 year 8.13 million per year deal, after his D7 year. One way to look at is that Kyrou has proven he is a 70-75 point winger, and JJP hasn’t quite yet. Another way to look at it is we are giving up 4 prime years in a similar player’s career. And then there is the possibility Peterka is only scratching the surface of his offensive output If there is a team out there that really likes Peterka, I could see him getting an offer sheet in the $9 million range, where the Sabres would not match; the cost would be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. If Peterka’s offensive ceiling is just a bit higher than what he has shown, then he is likely going to be worth $9 million per year in the not distant future. Seems crazy, but…

Kyrou is a 30 goal scorer and has 150 goals in 416 games. Rosen is looking like maybe someday a 3rd line player. I do not see anything in Rosen that indicate 30 goals and 70+ points. I would think the Blues would ask for something more with JJP for Kyrou.

Maybe he should get a couple tips from the owner of the Bills and Bandits to build a base of, what was it called, "Raucous Bandit fans". One poster on SS keeps repeating himself that an upgraded goalie and a few mid level player (no blockbuster) moves, would make the Sabres a playoff team. Would you mind explaining to him that he shouldn't feel that way because this is the worst situation in the entire NHL?
-
Kyrou consistently puts up powerplay points, which JJP hasn't really managed yet (limited sample size). However, Kyrou is another soft-checking winger. Is he a full-potential Rosen? I think Peterka has a higher upside than Kyrou and would meet it on a team with structure and expectations (even if misguided, given their division), like St. Louis. Like, Kyrou doesn't fit them and is a 70-point player. JJP would be an 80-point player with them through his prime. And then it's a question of how long does it take him to play defense well enough to win a playoff series -- the same question the Sabres would need to find the answer to (if they ever made it).

Well this is true, where the tax advantage comes into play is generally after the team is constructed, to then be able to add an extra 6-8M to the books AND re-sign players at lower rates to sustain excellence. -
Congrats you passed my test prize behind door 3

This one is a maybe and maybe not. I have friends in St Louis telling me Kyrou is in the dog house for his playoff performances and that his two way game is not up to par. He is skilled but unwilling to play Blues style hockey. So would the Blues would be interested in getting a very similar player in JJP (struggles with 2 way game), so maybe not? Since they can sign JJP for less $$, and less term, and get out of the Kyrou deal, so maybe.

There is one critical different between Vegas' use of LTIR and the Sabres. Vegas has a roster good enough to make the playoffs without Mark Stone in it.

It’s a good question Probably a defence mechanism - - - Thinking about it, I also probably achieve a level of satisfaction by vaguely alluding to arguments I feel I’ve been right/specifically salient about in the past (in this case, Eichel) when I’ve rightly/wrongly perceived it to be an issue where I was in the vast minority (called the captain of said minority many times, in fact) I don’t know that it rises to the level of trolling without quoting anyone specifically, but I’m not opposed to the argument that it’s the essence of what I’m doing

How about goalie? (just kidding)

The Houston Sabres? Well at least Kevyn can have his yearned for Palm Trees and No taxes

and with Vegas circumventing LTIR and their tax advantages that definitely aided them -
Can he play defence?
-
ya Kyrou would be a big get i know we are giving up the younger player but man Kyrou is a great player
-
Shoot. Works for us.
-
Capspace and age? Wanna get younger
-
Is there a reason Blues would want to do this?

No, it's ***** impossible to ignore. Every post from you is the same thing over and over and over. 450 variations of Pegula and Adams suck. Everyone knows already. Agreed
