This is almost always the case. A lot of confirmation bias involved
-
Are you asking 12.5 x3 (including the current year) or 12.5x1 + 20x8? I would take the former *if I were the Oilers.* The Sabres? Different story. The Sabres need to build credibility. The Oilers have been to the Final in the last two seasons, and the semi-finals in three of the last four. The Sabres are a laughingstock right now (mostly because management took a bad decision advanced by posters here about 12-13 years ago) which needs to build cred to attract better players.
-
For 30 days, yes, St. Louis could claim him from Buffalo and send him down without re-reclearing waivers (presuming Sabres were only team making claim; don't recall ottomh the exact mechanics if more than just Buffalo put in a claim). If he stays on the Sabres for a full month, then St. Louis would be in the same pack as everyone else should Buffalo try to send him to Ra-cha-cha.

Isn’t Ellis a career AHLer? If UPL has to compete to replace him at all we are in trouble

Sabres Waiver Claim Colten Ellis
Porous Five Hole replied to Porous Five Hole's topic in The Aud Club
Sure—but that is very unlikely because it is unlikely Ellis would clear waivers when we waive him. He can get re-claimed by the Blues and sent to the AHL (which is what they wanted to do all along). Georgiev wasn’t here until training camp and only signed because of an injury. -
Ooooorr, Jacksonville could have Ratzlaff, Leinonen, and Georgiev. 😉
-
Ellis has to be on the NHL roster now that he was claimed. If we want to send him to the minors he has to go waivers again, and if he clears, then St Louis can claim him back, just like we did with Reimer last year
-
Someone said it was a panic move and I think that may make sense... But I am going back to, I have no idea on what level Adams is thinking... I feel like he knows he is on the plank and is thrashing about...

Sabres Waiver Claim Colten Ellis

If UPL gets healthy and shares the net with Lyon then Rochester could have Levi, Georgiev and Ellis. -
Levis stats in the AHL last year: 2024-25 Rochester Americans 42 25 13 4 2.20 .919 7 0 Ellis's stats in the AHL last year: 2024-25 Springfield Thunderbirds 42 22 14 2 2.63 .922 3 0 Keep in mind Roch was one of the best teams in the league and Springfield barely broke the .500 line. This is a good pick up! We all saw what Georgiev was....***** So this a good hedge to those bets Lyon Ellis Until UPL is back, which my guess may be awhile, then UPL has to compete to unseat one of these two. Georgiev can go on waivers and if he is claimed too bad! I would almost bet my life savings that no one would claim him! We are all screaming about how crappy he is and then everyone is scared he is gonna get claimed on waivers? No way, Georgiev will clear and he can go back up Levi in Roch.

It goes back to... why on earth did Georgiev get anything more than a PTO?

McDavid extends for 2 years at $12.5m per year
French Collection replied to mjd1001's topic in The Aud Club
McDavid is trying to give the GM some money to get more talent while Kaprizov doesn’t care about winning, just his bank account. -
I see the current AAV as a big silver lining - to your point. But it’s firmly in “silver lining” category. I wouldn’t used “saddled”, I’d used “graced”. McDavid was a lottery ball godsend to the only market ranked below winnipeg and buffalo re: player destination The marketability and jersey sales etc etc alone make him an egregiously valuable asset, he’s the face of the league. Nm fact realistically he’s gojng to be exceptional till probably 40. This isn’t Alex Tuch, it’s the most talented player to ever play the game I can’t call it saddled when we all know the oilers would take that deal to the bank, running, if they could - - - If the Sabres could have McDavid at either deal, which do you personally take? I take McDavid for a decade and cry myself to sleep in happiness, with one solitary tear reserved for Terry’s fat wallet

Sabres Waiver Claim Colten Ellis

The organization needed another goalie for Rochester either way. The Amerks are legitimately good and giving 30 games to one of Topias Leinonen or Scott Ratzlaff would be a terrible idea. What’s scary is it took a UPL injury for KA to do anything. -
I can’t see the McDavid deal used in any way to artificially lower the value of every new deal now for the foreseeable future. I don’t think people will pretend it’s anything but an anomaly - otherwise he effed over the nhlpa lol
-
Kasparov got $17M and McJeaus gets $12.5M?
-
I guess I just see it the other way. Looks like a smart deal to me, and the Oilers aren't saddled with a 20M/yr contract until McDavid is 36 or 37.
-
Can someone explain to me what the expected setup is in net? Actually asking. All of these guys apart from UPL and Levi look like the made-up guys perennially sitting in “free agents” in the EA sports games and I stopped paying attention to goalie ads after several years because of proven incompetence when addressing position being thoroughly stamped in as a Rushmore staple of Adams’ tenure I’d take panic tbh rather than a reflection of the fact Adams has no real expectations foisted upon him
-
https://thehockeywriters.com/blues-ahl-goalie-colten-ellis-provides-team-with-a-future-option-in-net/ The only thing for me is he basically sounds like Levi Now with him getting claimed he will have to be on the NHL roster or we have to waive him, and if he clears then St Louis can take him back

I don’t see how locking doors would make people feel like they don’t want to live somewhere. People lock their cars, put their money in a bank. Then again not everyone locks their guns up which is a separate but similar issue. I don’t disagree about FUD. Even if everything was peachy I’d still lock my house at night and when I leave. We can disagree on that because to me it’s a simple thing to do that yields a measure of security but does not intrude on my quality of life. Rather it helps protect my quality of life. -
Ellis is basically at the point in his career where Levi will be a year from now. He spent a couple of years in the ECHL, in part, because the Blues had Lindgren and Hofer in the AHL. He has not been considered at Levi's level as a prospect, but I still prefer giving him a chance to going with Georgiev. Also, at the risk of dumping on Adams for everything, just looking at all of the goalies who have hit waivers in the last 48 hours (Ellis, DiPietro, Sogaard, Primeau), it seems like Georgiev was a panic move.
-
now 4 ... Colton Ellis baby LOL... nothing surprises me with these incompetents... like literally nothing...
-
Makes sense. I’m assuming he’s a guy the scouting department was high on and they don’t think Georgiev is the answer.
-
Entirely possible. But he'd still have been far and away their best goalie since Miller (and briefly, strictly by the numbers, Lehner -- if he'd been able to keep himself healthy off the ice). 40 healthy games of Ullmark, with ....Anderson?... as a backup and hot Levi to finish, gets them in 2022-23.

It's estimated that Brady gave up at least $60 million with some sources estimating it at over $100 million versus what he could have demanded with NE.
