More evidence of what I was talking about in the other thread. Also evidence that Adams wasn't necessarily wrong with the concept of the Samuelsson contract, he was wrong about the player. Not a huge fan myself of the player, but as I mentioned in the wrong thread somewhere, he's strong in the playmaking aspect the Sabres lack up front.

Here's a name we should be discussing and I don't think we have: Mikael Granlund Center, LW Age: 33 2024/25: 22 goals, 66 Points Contract Projection: 2 years, $4.975 million -I think he'd certainly be an upgrade on our left side top 6 and he can also play center, sort of of 2025 Zucker but a bit better. Gives us experience and wouldn't break the bank. Not a defensive dynamo but certainly not on Petera's level. -I think he would outpoint Peterka while providing more accountability at a cheaper price tag. He also contributes on both special teams units and is describes as "middle-six winger on a contender who can handle top-line duty on a weaker roster," This has "sabres written all over it," -He'll have suitors, I think 2 years/$12million is a good offer. He's coming off a contract that paid him $20miliion over 4 years. Thoughts?

Radim Mrtka, 6'6" RHD drafted 9th overall by Sabres

I am hearing this was a Lindy draft and Kevin was just picking the guys Lindy wanted. It does go against what he had done in the past so maybe a little optimistic feel since maybe Lindy wants to be the guy that gets them out of the playoff drought. -
Chad D: expect a Byram trade at or around the draft

it could make sense if we were able to land Ehlers? Or someone similar via trade? -

Looks like if you're playing pro, you can stay home. Leinonen and Ratzlaff the only players there under contract. And the goalie group is the most interesting, when you throw in the two new kids and Leenders. Helenius, Östlund, Wahlberg, Neuchev, Kulich and Benson are all guys who might have been there under other circumstances, but there's no need. Still, it's not going to take long to fire up the worry machine over the fact the Sbres have only picked 2 forwards of note (Helenius Zeimer) in the past two drafts. Most interesting absence: Maxim Strbak -
We can trade 2029 picks already?!? Adams, what are you doing? Even you might not have a job by 2029 --- let the future GM worry about that. Someone has to get the cash in that rising cap. (And the Islanders are definitely bottoming out for a couple years, so they're banking on him staying happy throughout the rebuild. At least, I would guess that is the message.)

Think defender values are... off D Alexander Romanov has agreed to an eight-year, $6.25M extension with the Islanders

They did the same thing last season with a shrunken dev camp roster and no "veterans". On the one hand, more practice activity and game time for the rookies. On the other hand, no ability to do a realistic scrimmage, no seeing Helenius/Wahlberg and getting them a little extra communication with the franchise leadership and some of their future Amerks teammates, or to set the expectation and intensity level for the newbies. No Strbak? Like last year, it feels very EEE compared to larger dev camps of years past. -

Love Parayko but that trade would be really strange as we'd suddenly have 4 new RHDs as of the deadline and a huge question mark at forward in general -
But even those are heavily taxed in California.

Don't want Danault now 5 years later. Will bring up thoughts of what should've been every single time he touches the puck. Desperately wanted him 5 years ago rather than blowing everything up once again. -
Would say Östlund is the obvious trade piece. He still likely has value around the league but Helenius is the better prospect now and the Sabres would be loathe to part with him; Noah not as much IMHO. (And Noah still might pan out as an NHLer.) Rosen only gets added as a trade piece if somebody needs SOMETHING, ANYTHING else other than a 6th or 7th round draft pick coming back. Yes, Buffalo would love to deal him; but somebody has to actually WANT him using up one of their 50 slots in order for them to successfully do so. Hope for his sake, somebody really doesn't want Adams throwing in a 7th to balance everything out.

I suppose having a good week is better than having a bad week just like climbing 1 foot up the wall of a 500 foot hole you dug is better than making the hole 501 feet deep. I can kind of appreciate him saying they don't know what the **** they are doing. Sometimes it's nice to be blunt. I think it's hard for people to accept that there has been financial improvements and most of that comes from a rejection from how he handles himself and his views on other things more socially aligned. The question, I think, is whether people put more value in an improving economy or social progression. Personally I would love to find a way to improve both but it seems we continue, as a country, to put those things into diametrically opposing camps so they have to play against each other.

As the roster currently stands, the biggest crying need is a playmaking top-six forward. On the free agent front, i was thinking Patty Kane might be a good one, but he had just 17 primary assists. Best bets are Mikael Granlund with 31 (17th in the league) while Ehlers had 27 Other guys potentially available: Necas: 32 Zibenajad 31 Danault 28 Rust 23 Rossi 22 If Byram's gotta go and the Kings are interested, Danault is somebody I'd be looking at. Only 21 NHL forwards had 30 primary assists Jason Zucker(!) led the Sbres with 24. Never would have guessed that. Not sure it's a stat I'd want to invest in heavily looking at the league leaders, but interesting and relevant. -
Marner wants to get paid and wants to play for a winner. Both of these things eliminate the Sabres.

Krebs, Helenius, another B prospect and a 2026 1st Top 3 protected for Robertson Byram for Jordan Kyrou Sign Nate Schmidt or Ryan Lindgren Robertson-Norris-Thompson Kyrou-Kulich-Tuch Benson-McLeod-Quinn Greenway-Doan-Zucker Schmidt/Lindgren-Dahlin Power-Kesserling Timmins-Bernard-Decker -
Yep - that's typical for a 3rd rounder. Hopefully he ends up being a solid bottom pair guy, that would be a win
-
AND the plan WAS adjusted about a year and a half ago. Original plan never would've seen Mittelstadt, Savoie, &/or Cozens traded. Now their own can be traded provided the return isn't anyone over the age of 25.
-
Because Peterka and Marner are not the same people. What are each player's motivations?
-
Depends. IF that $5.5MM they netted in cap space by only getting ~75-80% of what Peterka is worth gets used to really shake up the team would rather have that original deal the way it is. If (when) they hang on to that cap space like Scrooge McDuck holds onto a nickel, would absolutely 100% prefer this adder to the deal leaving them only a little over $2MM of wasted cap space.

You gonna be so mad The pick becomes a 2029 second-rounder if Toronto makes the playoffs this year and Maccelli gets at least 51 points through the 2025-26 season.
