I'm starting to believe that the Tuch situation will evolve into the worst case scenario.....meaning nothing happens at the deadline and he walks away for nothing in return. GMKA may not trade Tuch because he foolishly believes the team can still contend for the playoffs and will therefore hang onto to him at the deadline. Another team will sign Tuch in the off-season and we are left empty-handed. I consider this as Kevyn's parting gift before he gets lynched by the fans....that or Pegula extends or promotes him.

RE: Sabres becoming a playoff team - the REAL issue isn't just the management and staff, but rather the OWNERSHIP. Until ownership changes (I don't think Pegula is capable of change), this team will never be a true cup contender. Sure, he may get lucky some year and make the playoffs, but that's about all we can hope for. Pegula is an egotistical coward, meaning he thinks he's smarter than everybody else but still hides from any accountability himself. HE is the problem.!

I'm really disappointed in Ruff. I thought he'd bring more out of the players than this. If nothing else, I would have bet, he'd demand and get effort. He seems embarrassed and called out the effort tonight, but IMO, that's on him too. Maybe he just doesn't have the energy level anymore but he sounds more like Eeyore than Lindy Ruff to me. -

Best players on the ice last night for the Sabres with regard to expected goals for vs expected goals against: -Malenstyn -Krebs -Östlund -Samuelsson -McLeod -Dahlin -Thompson All those guys were on the positive side of things (more expected goals for than against). The rest of the team was negative Who were the worst guys? -Bryam -Rosen -Greenway -Quinn -Tuch All those guys were negative, DEEP into the negative territory (below 35 when 50 is 'neutral') Quinn and Rosen also 'backed it up' by being a -2 on the night (tied for worst among forwards) and Byram was tied for the worst on the team at -3 (with his most-of-the-night partner Timmons) -
Byram vs Power - Who are you keeping long-term?
mjd1001 replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
Last night was one of the worst games Byram played as a Sabre. After you get rid of Quinn (last night was back to a typical mistake-ridden, lazy game by him) and Greenway (he's plain and simple a below average forward in almost every way other than penalty killing), Bryam would be the next one I'd move if any other team has interest. -

This team can still make the playoffs. They aren't that far out of it. They are getting (hopefully) some injured players back. But I'm very close to this being the earliest in the season that I stop watching the game on a regular basis...why? They aren't likely to make the playoffs, but even if the do, it shouldn't be so hard. Its not fun watching a team trudge through the mud, shoot themselves in the foot (use whatever analogy you want) so often. -

I think why you need to make the full scale changes you say, and why they need to be done now, has a lot to do with a situation like Tuch. Unless the owner wants him here no matter what, then you want to make your front office changes BEFORE deciding what to do with him. What if you bring in a new guy, and this guy doesn't want 10% of the cap tied up in an aging winger for the next 7 or 8 years? Yeah, its one contract, but you sign Tuch long term, and that is one more thing you are saddling the new guy/new front office with. If you want to get the best new GM/new front office here, its going to be tough. One thing you can offer them is as much freedom with the roster as possible. You DON'T want to have a freshly signed, 30 year old winger to a huge contract as a welcoming gift to that person because the owner, or the 'last guy' wanted him. Of course every single day that goes by, the Tuch decision gets closer and more difficult. Which is exactly why you need to purge this front office NOW, not wait to the end of the year when a lot of contracts are up so it saves Pegula a bit of money. And if Dahlin and Thompson want out, they want out. There are 16 teams that make the playoff every year with the 2 of them. The idea behind another new rebuild with a new front office is to become one of those 16 that make the playoffs (and eventuall more than that). Its not a requirement to do that. As much as I think both of them can be really good, overall it isn't fun watching this team play, even with them on it. -

I don’t understand why Terry is so boneheaded. It is simple math, a winning team sell tickets and merchandise, it is also much easier to develop players in a winning system. Bring in professionals that can create that and stay out of the way! -

I suppose so. I just feel the whole thing needs a severe shock to the system. That may make it worse before it's better but this path will lead nowhere different from where it's been. Really won't matter who gets hired though if it's still terry's vision, Terry's choices/favorites, Terry's idea of what type of hockey (and type of players) and so forth. new management needs autonomy and I don't think terry will give that. -

I’m not sure I want him as the GM or anyone that is currently in this organization. I actually want the whole hockey department fired, from top to bottom. Almost like starting an expansion team. The scouting department isn’t good enough with as many picks as they have had and you don’t really have much to show for it. I mean how many more smallish players is this team gonna draft. We need players with some size that have sand paper in their game. All upper management gone, all the scouting department gone, head coach along with assistant coaches gone, and yes even the strength and conditioning coach gone. This is unacceptable with what has happened to this franchise. They are the laughing stock of the entire league. What happens with Tuch? Do you overpay him or do you move him? If he gets moved then how much longer before Dahlin and Thompson want out? Then Byram will want out once his two year deal is up. The cycle will just continue and nobody wants Adams to make any trades because he doesn’t get enough back in return. -

Games like this make me want to hire Tortorella to bag skate them into submission, subtract half the roster and create enough chaos to build something new out of. I know I know, dinosaur, over the hill, not the guy we want. I don't care. I just want to hire him to punish these guys. They deserve it. -
I've said it before and will keep saying it until they do something else. Hire Rick Dudley as Senior Advisor. Give him free reign to hire/fire everyone else.

What does the Tuch trade look like?
PerreaultForever replied to Crusader1969's topic in The Aud Club
Problem is I don't think moving Tuch for a prospect does anything to help this team. It'll just further the narrative of being a farm team for the league and players all want out. You going to tell Dahlin to wait another year or two? I think you need multiple trades and a roster overhaul. Change the direction. Moving Tuch in a larger package or a roster reshaping for next year is a better sell to everyone. -

They don't battle. They don't seem to care. They accept losing too easily. I hate to say it but it is just like Shorsey. "they don't hate to lose". In all these years they have had a broken culture and they do not fix it. They just think it will fix itself and it doesn't. Fine and dandy for guys like Tage to say they took them lightly but where was he? What was his mantra? I did the work with Detroit so it's your turn tonight? Was that it? It has to be every game. Every shift. Every loose puck. It just never is. Lazy stupid team. -

We came out flat and the Flames came out flying to start the game and to start the final period. That’s both coaching and lack of player determination. The Flames wanted it more than we did. Confounding until you realize the team quit in the final minutes. It can only get worse after it sinks in this will be another year of no post season play and it’s not even Thanksgiving. -

tonight it was obvious that something has to give with the Tuch situation! you simply cannot have a guy wearing an A out on the ice playing like it's Sunday afternoon game of shinny. Here are the teams I’m contacting and seeing if they have any interest in Tuch 1. New Jersey Devils With Hughes out long-term, they could use another forward. Would they consider moving Anton Silayev? Probably not — Casey feels like the more realistic target. 2. Montreal Canadiens Reinbacher is their top RHD prospect and likely too rich for them to move, but maybe they’d consider dealing their top LHD prospect, Engström. 3. Vancouver Canucks Their best prospect, Willander, is almost certainly untouchable. But Kudryavtsev might be available — a shutdown type who already has some NHL games under his belt. 4. Utah Mammoth They’ve got both Simashev and Lamoureux — massive defenders who are either in the NHL (Simashev) or close to it (Lamoureux). Maybe they’d view Tuch as the kind of piece that could help push them into the playoffs. With Tuch being the top prize in this year’s UFA market, hopefully the Sabres can capitalize and land a better prospect than you’d normally expect for a player on an expiring deal.
