I'd want to see detailed stats on high danger chances, breakaways, actual saves above expected and all that other stuff. As @pastajoe said he passes the eye test and just looks more in control of the net with calm sound positioning. But if you want to make the argument they are all the same then you keep the two younger ones.

Straight Talk: 1st Line: what do Sabres really have on this roster?
SABRES 0311 replied to Spoonman's topic in The Aud Club
Sabres have only two established top six forwards, three counting Norris. Need at least one more. Preferably a playmaker. Need to replace Tuch who I think will leave. Need a more reliable 2C since Norris has injury issues. So yeah, we only have TT that is a true reliable top six forward. -
Mattias Samuelsson cleared concussion protocol as of Nov 29
LTS replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I disagree. I think intent is there because players know exactly where their appendages are. Sammy did not skate into his elbow so much as Timo made a calculated decision that to drive through "high" would result in a low chance of a penalty being called. "We" provide the benefit of the doubt, but then we read stories about how professionals understand the "minutia" and I think that applies here. Glad he's okay.. strange routing for him, but he has been very good. Even if he did get the proverbial officiating finger tonight on the penalty called against him. -
Hold. Whether it should or should not be, the growth of power needs in the US because of AI processing necessitates the cheapest power available and nuclear is currently that power. There are a few states who are very nuclear power friendly and it's no surprise they are seeing unprecedented growth because of their cheap power costs. Power generations continues to suffer a negative consequence, regardless of the medium. It's just a byproduct of our evolution. We need to understand how the most efficient way to harness energy resources. We haven't done it yet.

Drinking trumps common sense. The NHL does not have that benefit.. and here we are.

It's these moments that cement the best stories. There's no great play by Palmieri here. He's a forgotten man but on his way to the end of his career he makes what likely becomes his career defining play. I love it because while it's a once in a lifetime moment, he made it happen. I hate it because I don't like seeing players end their careers on injuries. I'd love to think he'll be back but he's pushing the age. He's 34 (I had to look it up). I wish him the best, but if this was his moment.. damn what a moment. He's from Smithtown, NY. It's Lon Gisland... but I'll throw him some love for this moment only. 🙂

Straight Talk: 1st Line: what do Sabres really have on this roster?
LTS replied to Spoonman's topic in The Aud Club
I look at the roster and I see: Östlund, Benson, Malenstyn, Dahlin, McLeod, Doan, Timmins, Samuelsson (small sample size), Zucker, Bryson, Kozak. I think Bryson remains a serviceable 7th D, Timmins a 3rd pairing D, Kozak does his job as does McLeod and Malenstyn. I think Östlund is showing promise. Why no Thompson? He's a one-trick pony at the moment. He can't win board battles and he doesn't do great in contested space. I like him, his skill is immense but the book on him is close his time and space and he's a turnover machine. No sample size on Norris. Quinn hasn't made it happen. Tuch is... who he is. Zucker is an established vet. Dahlin covers for others. Sammy is getting it done this year. Doan is the real deal. The Sabres continue to not have a great first line simply because they keep trying to inject youth into it. If the Sabres get one more top line forward who can pull attention from Thompson I think they will do very well. -

Ellis is still a bit too busy with his movements, but I'll take it for now. They managed a win. I don't really care too much other than a dub is better than the L. Find a way to make it happen more consistently... reminder this is only their second road dub and they are about to embark on a long road game stretch. I don't miss Greenway. I like Greenway, but I think the game has passed him by. Still puzzling over giving apples on Doan's goal... that does NOT go in unless Zuccarello plays it.. that should be a straight no apples play... but I guess the NHL stat keepers are tasked with keeping Sabres fans engaged... Ellis passes the visual test. He doesn’t give up soft goals as often as the others. -

No way I would keep Norris. I hope he gets healthy soon, and he can stay healthy and play well, then we trade the horrible contract somewhere else. -

Is he clearly better than the other two? Player SV% GAA Colten Ellis .896 3.41 Alex Lyon .899 3.23 Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen .891 2.73 (including tonight's game, Ellis is up to .898) -
Bandits raised their 3rd consective and 7th overall Championship Banner tonight before taking on the Georgia Swarm. Gave up a goal on the 1st shot less than a minute in, but then the Great Dhane scored on the Bandits' 1st shot to tie it back up. Georgia got the next one but then the Bandits got their act together. They led most of the rest of the 1st half, but Georgia got a couple of late goals to tie it at 8 through 2. Georgia got another quick goal at the start of the 3rd to take their last lead of the game. Bandits scored the next 4. Final was 15-11. Smith had 4. MacKay had a pair. Pretty sure Byrne had a pair. Nanticoke with one or 2. The Captain had a very uncharacteristic goal - it looked like one you'd expect Buchanon to score coming out of the corner and then driving to the net. Robinson had an empty netter to close out the scoring. Don't recall who got the others. One of them was by one of the guys that had been a Bandit a few years ago and his name is drawing a blank right now (it's late, this kid is heading to bed very soon). Frasier who's now playing for a team out west was on the floor for the banner raising ceremony, which was cool. He's been a big part of the 3 championships. Cloutier is also gone. Martin retired. They replaced him with DeSnoo. Brought in a couple other veterans. Spanger is still out from the injury he suffered down the stretch, but has been practicing, so he's close to being back. Next game is at home on the 13th vs Halifax. Nice start to the season. Let's go Ban-dits!!!

He played very well tonight. Only gave up 1 goal he had a chance on and he never should've been in the spot to have to make that save. Personally would play him on Monday and expect Ruff will do so. But, with 3 goalies, unless he gets a shutout Monday, would come back with 1 of the other 2 in the one after that. Had Lyon not gone nearly 4 weeks between getting any action, he probably would've been better. And if he steals 1 of the 1st 2 goals against or doesn't give up the 3rd one, maybe that horseshoe lodged firmly up Allen's arse gets dislodged. -

His time is at hand. We know he'll be back. I kind of like our pipeline; the players on the edge like Östlund and Rosén are mature prospects, ready to graduate to NHL play. There are others behind them that will be ready soon. The Sabres also have AHL vets that are creditable tweeners who can fill depth roles should injuries demand (Johnson, Metsa, Dunne), who don't hurt you too bad when pressed into service. Jacob Bryson will never be a top 6 D, but at this point he's fine as a 7D. He's played most of the Sabres games this year and has a +/- of -1 which isn't awful. It feels like he's taken a positive step over the last year or so. He feels more NHL vet and not so much a tweener trying to hang on. It feels less like rushing the young talent up too quickly and ruining them, and more like timely development. -

There were a few saves tonight where he looked like Charlie Brown on the pitcher's mound when a hit comes zooming through: All limbs, everywhere at once. And yet in a split second he's in place for the next shot. His utter commitment to the save is second among Sabres goalies only to Dominik Hasek. -

They cut one of the Shootout takers ? Wasn't Östlund the 4th shooter? who did they cut out ? I predicted a win before the game and you can book another win vs the Jets on Monday.
