  1. Past hour
  2. Expected goals shouldn't be treated as actual goals. It is really only showing you how many quality shoots on goal you had and when you combine it with its inverse, you get the xgf% which is useful. xGF IMO is being overused throughout hockey because it offers a simple stat to show shot quality for and against. It is only one metric and without context it becomes like any stat, meaningless. I would guess that Doan is generating more shots in high quality areas where as Peterka has a better shot overall. As you say, it is about how they create offense.
  3. As of right now I think UPL is our best goalie and our worst goalie. If things stay the same with the 3 goalies we currently have, I think Ellis will eventually become our best chance of becoming a true #1 goalie.
  4. That's the GM's job. If, IF, Terry has been doing it, then he's not going to let a POHO do it, either.
  5. Adams brought in Hall & Staal because Krueger and Pegula wanted one more go with an Eichel-centric team. Adams did not want that. He wanted to alter the direction from day one. @Thorny explains it pretty well in his reply.
  6. How he has not solved the goalie situation is absolutely the worst. Take a look at every team in a rebuild, the first thing they do when the tank is over is to get a goalie that win them games. Except Sabres.
  7. Voted other. IMO biggest failure was not addressing team needs after Granato’s 91 point season. Team was young and physically vulnerable and easy prey for physical teams. Did little to nothing to improve the team in that off season.
  8. The point to me is more seasoned, veteran, and previously successful hockey people in the room making decisions utilizing their experience. Advisor, POHO, whatever. Prior to this year, it was just the GM and the owner…and neither had any experience running a hockey department. We need it to be different. We want more adults with hockey resumes in the room making decisions. And not the guy from the Harbor Center. Or the guy from Pittsburgh. Also, the POHO layer may put Pegula a layer away from decisions, which we would all be in favor of.
  9. Why can't a GM make those decisions on his OR her own?
  10. The POHO sets the strategic direction of the team.... What type of team do they want to build? What type of players do they target? What are the priorities? coaching? goaltending? Are they buying or selling? The POHO provides direction to the GM who is responsible for executing on those directives. Terry has been filling this role and it's an utter disaster.
  11. I agree it would be meaningless, but I think I take comfort in that: it’s Adams and his role that will be essentially meaningless. We know in Buffalo it is the GM who is “ultimately responsible”, (they don’t even have a POHO right now. And yes, I get Terry gets “final say”, but someone is still bringing him the options to choose from and dressing them up as attractively/unattractively as they are apt to do.)
  12. I am going with other, something that has somewhat been remedied. The handling of Dylan Cozens overall. From signing him to the extension he got, to how the team used him.
  13. OK, he didn't have a prayer from the start. TP was POHO from the git go. That will be my last git go of the day.
  14. For the nth time: The creation of a President of Hockey Operations position is silly and creates meaningless layers. Someone ultimately is responsible for finding and signing players and coaching personnel. It doesn't matter if you call that person POHO, GM, coach, owner, or grand poobah. If they hire a POHO, whose sole delegee is the GM, what's the point? If they want to hire an *advisor*, that's a different story. And Amen if they're getting rid of Adams. (NOT "Adam's.")

  16. Eichel only asked for a trade upon learning that Adams’ desired course of action was a long form rebuild. - - - The Hall year was indeed an attempt at going the non-rebuild route. I have argued their decision to take a Covid crazed, crazy scheduled, short season where Eichel started the year injured and only played *21 games* as some sort of confirmation they needed to turn the whole thing over is completely batshit. They reverted back to Adams’ rebuild plan after that anomaly of a season. And Eichel reverted back to his trade request, this time via “surgery dispute”.
  17. i'd bet his probably fine but KA is forced to free up a roster spot for Kuntar (assuming Norris and Zucker are out)
  18. Is this really true? I remember GMKA signing Hall & trading for Staal in an effort to please Eichel so he would withdraw his trade request when he didn’t want to go through a rebuild. So to me, those were not moves a guy trying to move on from Jack. I think KA’s hard feelings come from how Jack forced his hand into trading him, and how Jack refused the organization’s medical advice. The public stripping of Jack’s Captaincy was so petty in hindsight. They could have just traded the guy and named a new captain after the season. My new hot take is Jack knew GMKA wasn’t up for the job & EEE was a long-term problem long before everyone else did.
  19. Putting Reino on a second bridge deal (of only one year) was the beginning of the end of the Eichel era. We were all frustrated and blamed it on Eichel wanting out but I'm not sure that happens if Reino is signed long term. That was the beginning of the unraveling of the first post-tank rebuild.
  20. Its official Ellis has been put on IR There is the roster move I assume soon we wil hear UPL is the starter
  21. IF the team really is close to removing Adams of GM duties, would like the 3 headed goalie monster to remain for 1-3 more weeks - however long it is until Pegula plans on pulling the trigger on Adams removal. If they AREN'T close to removing him; then yes, get what you can for UPL today and move on.
  22. I still read that as his spidey senses are tingling. "I feel more confident than not a change could be coming" That guy is creepy enough; I don't need an AI animation of him.
  23. Would clarify that further by adding it was his wanting Eichel out even before he took over as the GM.
  24. Maybe our own studio analyst and former goal tender, Marty Biron, will follow in John Davidson's footsteps who was the former goalie for the NY Rangers, followed by being the color commentator on the Rangers TV broadcast, and eventually becoming the GM of the St Louis Blues. You never know...
  25. Any change where Adams still has a spot and voice in the organization is DOA. Guys like Adams, Forton, etc need to be wiped out. The coaching staff needs to be canned. Do what you want with Ruff but he would be the only guy I would consider retaining in some position. Moving Adams to President is just a massive step backwards.
  26. Eichel.
