  1. Past hour
  2. Eventually, probably very soon, Tuch, Thompson and Dahlin are going to want out. That's 3 first-round picks that would come back. If they could get that in the same season, they could then trade up to the #1 spot if they don't win the lottery. I hope none of this happens and they add to heart and toughness to this roster along with some defensive coaching. How is Marty Wilford still employed? Power is a huge problem as he hasn't an ounce of toughness/strength/anger/hate/meanness in his body at 6-5 and he's defensively unaware nearly 100 percent of the time. He is constantly pushed off the puck by smaller players. First overall? What a terrible pick he's turned out to be, and he's an 8 Million dollar boat anchor dragging this team down.
  3. I watch very little NHL hockey outside of the Sabres, so I have a hard time gauging the talent on other teams. I can say that most nights, when the Sabres play with heart, effort, and grit, they are successful and they are capable of competing with, and beating, most teams. I've said this in other posts - I believe that the Sabres are mentally fragile. They can't get that 3rd win in a row, even if playing the worst teams in the league. They can't overcome a lost challenge or a soft goal let in by UPL. I suppose you could argue that giving up a 3-0 lead in the third period is the DEFINITION of being mentally fragile, but I do give kudos to them last night for facing adversity (bad officiating, goalie concussion, last-second goal against) and still coming out with the win. I tried to watch the game very late and slept through most of it, so most of my observations about the game are from this board and not from the little that I actually saw. I have always been a Lindy Ruff fan (both as a player and as a coach and just a person - I have never met him, but I understand he's a great guy), but I think the game may have passed him by and it's possible that a different coach may be able to get more consistent play out of this roster. Granato squeezed a little bit more out of it than Lindy has, and Lindy has some new pieces that Granato didn't have; plus, the younger core guys are more experienced now than they were under Granato. I wonder if a top flight coach could do a lot more with this team. I do think the talent is sufficient to be a playoff team.
  4. I assume that Lindy didn't challenge the last Oilers' goal for one of two reasons: 1) Coaches challenges are not allowed in the final minute, per league rules (thought I saw that above in this thread); OR 2) Even if he could challenge it, if he challenges and loses, which, given the track record and the Sabres' luck, and, well, the NHL, the challenge would have been lost. Then, the Sabres would have had to kill a 4-3 PP for two minutes of OT against the league's top PP, almost certainly giving up the OT goal. By not challenging, they still got the 1 point and the realistic opportunity for the 2nd point, which they earned. Edmonton is in the Western Conference, so them getting a point was inconsequential to the Sabres. I gave up watching Monday Night Football (a matchup of 2 good teams that ended up being a very good game) to watch the debacle in Calgary, then chose to not watch most of this game, that they actually won...I guess I need to make better decisions in the future.
  5. Put Gilliam in to run over the spy and break Allen loose.
  6. Lets talk about the New England Game! Go Bills! Need a game plan against a defense that will spy on QB1, keep Him in the pocket, match up one on one with the wide outs, and stop the run. What will the defense do against Maye?
  7. Both my kids are on the college path... as their high school culture still plays upon the old adages of a degree being the be all end all. One is in 1st year, one will start in 2027. Both my kids work hard, but it's a supply and demand world and the supply of average college grads greatly exceeds the number of good tradespeople. I've been absolutely clear that unless they're ready to really hustle through school and their early working years, they are not going to have the lifestyle they have now.
  8. I’ve posted this before but I know a NHL scout who was Florida at the time and I was speaking to him on Levi and how excited I was about him. He quickly, and I mean quickly, told me to not get my hopes up on him. He clearly wasn’t on board with that pick.
  9. It’s bizzaro world in my view at just how high the % of kids went to college and got worthless degrees. When I started my journey I was in my mid 20’s, so many of my younger years friends and peers chose college, now many of them are like dam your doing great. What they didn’t see was the drive, the commitment, the dedication to stick with it, learn from my mistakes and always push forward with field specific knowledge. It does eat up time, but the eye on the prize is what drove me to where I am at now. Something many of the young I’ve noticed severely lack.
  10. I knew Doan could become a very good player but he is exceeding what I thought his ceiling could be. He is a building block. He will still become stronger, smarter, and better.
  11. Let them BOTH be reviewable; but the review has a limit of 30 seconds (maybe a minute) of observation and if you can't determine conclusively that the call was wrong then the call stands as originally called. What's really dumb is a coach can challenge a "missed play stoppage" such as the puck hitting the netting above the glass or a missed hand pass but a blown icing call ISN'T a "missed play stoppage." This league, quite often, stinks.
  12. Today
  13. I'm in a similar field. Protection and Control in the utility sector. We work on the equipment that makes the lights go out. We don't have any official recognition as a trade, but it's specialized work. With enough experience you can go pretty much anywhere as we're in such short supply.
  14. Doan is awesome. I need this team to pull their heads out of their ***** so guys like him want to stay.
  15. “Where Would You Rather Be Than Right Here, Right Now”……. GO BILLS!!!
  16. It drives me crazy that a goal can be disallowed because Greenway was offside by an inconsequential 1/2 inch, and then the linesman can miss an icing by 3 feet that directly leads to a goal, and that’s not a concern. For clarity, I would prefer that neither can be challenged, but if the missed offside can overturn a goal then it is crazy that the missed icing cannot.
  17. I have often told the young if you aren’t looking at the trades, especially electrical, you have 0 room to bitch about money. I’m an E&I tech, Electrical and Instrumentation. The field is short staffed by up to 45%, and with my now 30 yrs or so in with experience on both installation and maintenance I can pretty much write my own ticket. Was it a long road of 6 or 7 days, 12 to 14 hrs a day most years? Yes it was, but the dividends its paid in the last 10 yrs is worth every drop of blood, sweat and toil put in. The ones young that get in now are the ones that will be thankful by 40-45 yrs old. edit: I should point out industrial electrician. I don’t do residential or commercial. Power plants, major industrial facilities, that’s where both the education and the money is. I paid my own way through the apprentice progam, today may be different, but $49k for my initial 5 yr apprenticeship.
  18. Yes, Byram "drove" Draisatl into Lyon's leg. Sure. Byram nudged him towards Lyon and then Draisatl chose to use that as an excuse to move Lyon's leg about 2'. Funny how guys that are pretty good skaters lose all control when it's convenient. Yes, skaters on all 32 teams do that. It is what it is. And the Sabres shouldn't have put themselves in the position where Draisatl could do that. But 100% that exact play is a judgement call that doesn't always go as it ended up getting called. Krebs shouldn't have iced it; whomever was supposed to be paying attention to McDavid shouldn't have lost him. They'd had chances to seal the victory with an extra goal on the 5v3; they didn't get that done. But 100%, that goal might've gotten called back had the reviewers in TO been in a different mood.
  19. I’ve played cribbage since I was 8/9 yrs old. I realize 8 or 9 is a ripe old age, but at 55 I guess I’m a fossil now 😊 by the way, 15 for 2, 15 for 4 and a double run for 8 = 12 points for the hand. Watch’ya got? 😂
  20. Quinn was held, hog tied, and tossed to the ice in the final minute, blatant interference or holding, no call. The Edmonton announcer thought it was funny. They must to used to getting the benefit of the doubt. Prior to that, Dahlin gets two minutes for tripping when he checked the guy with the puck behind his own net.
  21. That was awesome. Thanks for sharing @Demoted. The thought that went into the design and attention to detail required for a project of that magnitude is incredible. Can't wait for the home opener in '26. It will be electric. Wish I could be there. The 'Big Colander' is nearing completion.
  22. McLeod gave the guy a cross check while he was still lying on the ice. Soooo, no, not really.
  23. Did no one see a Sabre pushing the Oiler into Lyon? Come on now. The officiating has sucked, does suck and always will suck bc it's still a garage league and bc hockey is a tough sport to officiate. But, please, no one has it out for the Sabres. Every fan base in the league feels the same way. The Sabres can lose on their own. Don't give them the excuse.
  24. Yes, Lyon did leave the crease on his own (at least his 1 leg was out of the crease, though the rest of him was in the crease). BUT players are NOT allowed to initiate contact with goalies regardless of where they are are the ice. Soooooo ... that one pretty much stays a "judgement" call for the league and they judged the Eulers losing in regulation was less desireable than a bottom feeder like the Sabres finally winning one in regulation.
  25. Plenty. I have a PS5 and normally purchase Play Stations. Imo, more games are geared toward solo and adventure play. My son (10) has a fishing game and he enjoys it. Way of the Hunter Call of the Wild Hunting Simulator ______________ Call of the Wild Angler Ultimate Fishing Simulator Fishing Planet The Catch: Carp and Coarse Bassmaster All of the above are available on PS4 or PS5. PS4 games can be played on PS5 but not vice versa. You could probably get a PS4 relatively cheap. Also I buy games used. Games are expensive nowadays. Look into used at GameStop or on Ebay. Much cheaper. Hunting and fishing games also have a tendency to be cheaper anyhow. Good luck. Glad to hear he's coming home.
  26. Last year a guy kicked one in on us and they determined he didn’t do it intentionally. The NHL is not a serious league.
