The real fix is the one that's least likely for this owner. You get a real NHL GM, with established connections and credibility around the league (note: this could be a multiyear AGM from a perennial contender). Then, you give that GM control of the head coach, interviewing, and hiring so that they are in lock-step of vision from day one. The coach has input but the GM has final say -- and with luck, that prevents nostalgia signings like 2 years for Geertsen who Lindy thought was good at his role 3 years ago, but has since proven to be a bottom 6 AHLer. Then, the GM uses their network and the coach uses their network to go find assistants that align to their combined vision. But the coach's input is foremost because they have to work together on the day-to-day. It's just a hockey staff; it's not rocket surgery.

Certainly. I didn't consider him as part of the core Adams was saving cash for as he's a bottom six PK guy (and good at that role, when healthy), but yes. Once you pay that player $4M you're potentially cutting corners elsewhere.

this particular Sabres team has the potential to be historically awful. so many floaters and danglers. and the going's already gotten tough. it will get tougher still. i presume captain sour puss is already looking for his exit strategy.

The scoring isn't down because Peterka is gone, it's down because Ruffs system mixed with Apperts pp doesn't work with this group. Same thing happened to Granato once he forced a "defense first" system into these guys. Further, before all the victory laps, Benson hasn't played and Norris is injured. Peterka being here doesn't fix that.

I agree Terry needs to clean house. Ruff already doing theeasiest “send a message” by giving Kulich some tough love. Problem is it needs to be sent to the so called leaders. Benching a kid isn’t gonna do diddly.

The concept for making up Peterka’s production was an uptick in team goals with Quinn, Kulich & Benson specifically in mind, and a down tick of goals against with Kess & Timmons in mind (which pushed Glass Sammy to third pair). That plan can still work, but jeeeeez not so far. Also, the whole “want to be here” effect our lame duck GM has been spewing for years. Vibes. The plan was vibes, I guess. I cannot wait til GMKA is fired.

Kulich had a muscle injury of some sort in preseason and missed 4 practices and a game or two. He was probably going to play through it (like Dahlin did at the start of last season) and it'd be OK if he's got Norris/McLeod above him on the depth chart taking most of the ice time. Out goes Norris and now he's exposed. Definitely rest him. Quinn has no more excuses and is the most disappointing Sabre forward (even more so than Tuch or McLeod who at least have the history of performing). With Benson hurt the first three games, Quinn should've been running around like a madman to get all the ice time and cement himself as a top line wing option for Norris-Thompson or at worst the opposite wing for Tuch. Instead, he's looked as exciting as Geertsen. Rookie Quinn is MIA and if it keeps up it will be Change of Scenery Quinn -- with Adams in charge of the transaction.

Actually Forton is probably more qualified today than Adams was when he took the reins.

I am saying that... and looking at rebuilding thru the draft like from the ground up 5 years to get good when a lot of those players take 2 or 3 to get here seems like the ball park... and that is if you get it right... but of course I have no crystal ball... nor do I know the level of competence that Pegula would hire... but I feel like this is going to go on for a very long time... JMO... but to your main point... yes that is what I am saying... they are ultimately going to need to tear this down... I think that your core of Dahlin, Thompson, Tuch, etc will pretty much make them tear it down... I think they will want out of here... I cannot see Thompson looking at being 30 years old and never making the playoffs... or Dahlin in his late 20s never in a playoff game... I think they are going to force their way out... we wont be able to procure NHL players because of no trade clauses and get littered with draft picks and prospects or the odd Josh Norris who looks kinda good on paper but breaks when he sneezes to hard...
