  1. Well, yeah, but it's completely out of our hands. Carolina looks worse than us and then we'll need luck in the lottery.
  2. Right now Carolina is this year's version of last year's Sabres. So if the worst we can do is 2nd last in the league, that means we have a roughly 2/3 chance of drafting third. If it's Hanifin, GMTM will have to work some magic and get some trades down. Either to move up in the draft to select a Barzal or Connor or to bring in a Larkin-type.
  3. You really can't project our season total for goals based on these first 9 games. If anything, I'd say we're due to score a whole lot more goals/game in the remaining 73 games just because we have so man guys waiting to break out (Moulson, Stafford, Stewart, etc.).
  4. Why is this so obvious to us but professional NFL football coaches are still struggling to grasp this concept?
  5. 24-17 at the half. The Bills are definitely going to blow this game, right? How are we only up by one touchdown?
  6. You didn't quote the exciting part of the article, my friend: Everything changes for this franchise if one of our 2nd round or later guys from the past few drafts turns into a stud.
  7. I don't love the biting but the way he handled Crouse in the fight more than makes up for it. Also, if Crouse was jamming his hand in his face during the scrum, I really don't have a problem with it. Plus, for better or worse, the Sabres could benefit from a little crazy. Pretty much since Black Sunday, the Sabres have been a team that didn't like losing, but really didn't HATE it either. So right about now I see the benefit in having a buy whose mentality is "I'm gonna beat your ass and if you're still messing with me on the ice I'm gonna f***ing bite you too." Would you ever want to play against that guy?
  8. Nice job by the Sabres broadcast to not take note of Reinhart's first NHL point....
  9. We were definitely the better team that period. For what that's worth.
  10. Kris Baker updated the post with video too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA_YM0u-AJ4 Brendan Lemieux is not a heavyweight but he's a pretty good fighter. Lawson Crouse is a big guy and a projected 1st rounder next summer, and he handled him. I didn't love the pick when we made it but he's definitely winning me over early this year.
  11. Nolan shaking things up after 8 games. How much weirder are these shake-ups going to get 16, 24, 32, etc. games into the season? Unrelated: I really love the Sharks uniforms and basically always have. Teal works for hockey for some reason. It's also awesome that an expansion team picked a look in 1991 and basically stuck with it for 20+ years. The Sharks always look like the Sharks even when they introduce new uniforms.
  12. You're going to love this article from The Hockey News then. I just came across this this morning when I was reading up on Hanifin. The 50 NCAA players you need to know this season: http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/the-50-ncaa-players-you-need-to-know-this-season/ Other interesting names on the list are Eichel (no.1), Hanifin (no.2), and Dylan Larkin (no.4). The high ranking for Larkin makes me like the idea of him as the centerpiece of a Myers trade a little more. Nice to see the Florentino getting some attention too.
  13. We probably won't trade it anyway for the second reason you laid out: we probably still aren't in the playoffs next season. The 2016 lottery is for the top three picks -- i.e. the 14 non-playoff picks go in a (weighted) hat and they draw out the first three. So if you miss the playoffs, you can still draft in the top 3. And I'm probably going overboard anyway since the chances of a player worth our 2016 1st being available via trade might be slim. But I still want the team to move future assets next summer to get better for 2015-2016 because we're a toxic environment right now. We need an environment where our young players can flourish. Identify the key prospects we build around and move the guys we probably can't. We've had so many extra picks these last few years that there literally isn't room for all these guys on the Sabres if they all develop anyway.
  14. My best case scenario is that we finish dead last this season (yes, I still feel disgusting having to admit this) to get one of the generational players and then trade some of our future to make a big step forward in 2015-2016. Ideally this would be our 2016 1st rounder for a Ryan O'Reilly-type player both because a ROR-type instantly makes us more credible and because we couldn't even talk about tanking next fall. This benefits the team because we can't have a toxic environment for the young players to play in. And mentally and emotionally, it'd be nice not to have any conflict when I'm watching these games.
  15. We're definitely trading Stewart and Stafford. Neither one has a future in Buffalo. I think where there's smoke, there's fire with the Myers thing but I'm not sure GMTM will get what he's looking for. I could also see Hodgson being moved since it sounds like Ennis is the 2008 draftee they like better. And I know this is going to make Eleven livid, but I'd still be interested in draft picks coming back in trades we make during this season. They give us the most flexibility for after this season. They'd give us what we need to move up in the 2015 draft if we have someone to target after we make our first pick and something to trade to get better immediately for 2015-2016 (i.e. picks to trade for players). I don't think teams will trade us the players we need during the season but they might after.
  16. I'm feeling a little better about the nightmare scenario where we finish 2nd last and get pushed to the third overall pick by the lottery after reading this write-up on Noah Hanifin. http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/connor-mcdavid-and-jack-eichel-are-great-but-dont-sleep-on-noah-hanifin/ If we end up with the no.3 pick, I think my plan would be to draft Hanifin and then move Heaven and Earth to move up with our other picks to land a top offensive talent like Barzal or Connor a few picks later.
  17. Ruff at least put Grigorenko on the power play during his 5 game tryout time (which we blew through and ultimately burned that year of eligibility anyway).
  18. Nolan's strategy for developing Reinhart (or, more accurately, his lack of a strategy) is embarrassing. I'm not counting on McDavid or Eichel ever playing for us, which means Reinhart could be the key player for our future. And we're completely wasting the 9 'freebie' games we get with him this year. Is it too much to ask that we put the most important player in the organization in a position to succeed?
  19. Ugh. :(
  20. They were part of two of the best Sabres teams of all time so... maybe it did? At least, it didn't hurt. And can we really include Stafford in this? He's not that into hockey.
  21. I think if we won the lottery last summer, we would have drafted.... Sam Reinhart. And if ever there was a year where finishing last and losing the lottery was OK, this must be it.
  22. But why would we do that? Isn't there some benefit to leaving Grigo, Armia, Carrier, McCabe, etc. in Rochester so that they can learn to win together? Would bringing them up in a couple months to get their ###### kicked actually help them? The Amerks are 4-1. Let them keep rolling all season if they can.
  23. Worst team to ever not finish dead last. That would be the worst futility record of all.
  24. TWO MORE TEAMS.
