  1. I think a lot of people are hoping what Nolan can do with a full season of a less-than-medicore roster. :flirt: Crap in, Crap out. Simple as that. This is a roster nearly devoid of NHL-level talent from top to bottom. Mediocre will be an improvement.

Nolan's team didn't dump his all-star goalie last time.

    No, they dumped Nolan.

  2. FWIW, Murray, in the media, has been talking about dumping a lot of guys from this roster. It's a top down thing; the GM is telling you the current roster isn't worth keeping around - imagine if your boss was saying his staff is going to be turned around, how would the staff be collectively?

I think the guys that won't be here next year are self-selecting with their crappy play (I think the one exception is Ear-Off). Weber? Gone.

  3. Look at John Scott as an example.....I think Nolan has taken great pains to try and make every player on the roster make an attempt to try and be a hockey player.

Have you watched Scott lately? It looks like they've been developing his conditioning and skating lately. He's no longer a pylon and he's moving his feet a LOT more. His work along the boards is decent, his stickhandling is fair. His biggest liability has been his skating, and that's improving. I don't think any previous team ever really bothered to push him; he was a on-dimensional player. I'm thinking he'll be with the team next year, at least at the start.

Is it possible Sacco is a case of a terrible head coach, but good assistant? I'm not to argue for that, but I don't think I'm ready to dismiss it either.

I think there's better out there.

That's actually a pretty clean cut.

  4. There was no fight in this team tonight - Philly kept making them their bitch and nothing was done to settle the score. And with 4 games left in the season, who cares about suspensions?

It was like a Rolston game. First period was pretty even, then Philly scored and the fragile Sabres crumbled after that.

As for suspensions, frankly, they're running out of warm bodies.

  5. Beauty.

Actually I want to rescind that suggestion; Weber already owns that name. I think Weber is on his way out; he doesn't seem to be a Murray type player. He's got okay skills but doesn't have the Hockey IQ that Murray seems to value- makes the "safe" play, like rimming the puck around the boards to get it out of a hot area, but seems like he'll miss an option that would lead to a clean breakout and instead sends it to the point where the opposition intercepts it.... that kind of thing. Sometimes rimming it is the right thing, but sometimes not and he doesn't take the situation in before he does it.

McCabe played fine last night. He was no worse that the rest of the Dmen out there for us, and better than some. He did get jumped by the speed of the game a few times but it wasn't too bad.

  6. I would have nominated Weber.

There are parts of Weber's game I like, but he won't last on this team; he doesn't have the Hockey Sense that Murray likes in his players.

How did McCabe look like ?

He looked fine for his first NHL game, especially considering we were playing the top team in the league. that said, he did get owned a few times. The game snuck up on him a few times. He'll be fine after he gets his sea legs.

  7. Welcome to the NHL, Mr. McCabe. (Boy did he get pwn3d in the corner during the last shift of the first.)

All kinds of tornado warnings being posted on twitter in the vicinity. Yikes.

We're under a tornado watch here in Ft Worth. Rites of Spring, baby.

    Hockey Heaven at last.

Seriously... you have lots of top prospects just lickin' their chops for an opportunity to make an impact on an NHL team. They love it. If they were in the Blackhawks system, they'd be in juniors and the AHL for years. With the Sabres they can expect a nominal stint on the farm and if they kick ass they will be moved up to the big club. I can see where prospects would be excited to be with this organization. And if that feel good vibe permeates out into the league at all, maybe the Sabres can attract a quality veteran free agent or two.

At the trade deadline I was hopeful that some of the players that were traded would come back as free agents, but now I'm ready for the youth movement. If Ott or Moulson or whoever returns that's great, but the future is in the youth.
