biggest surprise to me is Timmons. I didn't think he was very good in Toronto and not much in Pittsburgh but he's been really solid and seems to fit their system perfectly. It's made a huge difference.

I don't think we've seen everything we will out of him yet.  So far I see him as glue to hold the unit together, and to clean up messes left by Power (and also to mentor Power).  I don't see him do much, but that also includes I don't see him making any defensive mistakes.  But Dunleavy keeps talking about how good his shot is.  I get the impression that while he learns Lindy's system and his teammates, he's not pushing the offense; he seems to be concentrating on D most of the time.  But I think as he settles in he'll try more shots on goal.

I kind of agree with what you're saying in the large picture. I never understood the signs on the front lawn.

I can't imagine not knowing who I'm going to vote for and then seeing a sign on the front lawn that tells me to vote...that got me thinking... "You know what? That random person who I don't know likes that candidate so that must be the one I'm going to go with!"

I guess the theory I heard is the more signs on the lawn seems to drum up identification or a groundswell of support for a certain candidate. But still... I don't understand how that actually changes someone's mind... Or get someone to vote for them when they weren't going to vote at all.

It's just more sign pollution... And general pollution when they go flying all over the place on a windy day.

It's not so much about changing minds; it's more about encouraging like-minded people to actually vote.

No. I don't see that much. Maybe a minute or even two but if both teams are battling for the puck you get changes of possession after shots. Sabres don't want to play that way though. They just want possession and if they don't have it they don't pursue hard onto the puck carriers. It's a passive approach and I think it's dumb. Others may disagree, and there are different views on how to play OT and how to play hockey in general, but imo the teams that are aggressive and battle for the puck are the teams that win the most.

Last year when the Sabres were better at playing OT, they did that to other teams frequently and kept the other teams' players out there for just as long.  After thirty to sixty seconds, you're gassed and blocking lanes, just playing to prevent a game ending shot.

If you say you've never seen it before, you're not watching NHL hockey.

    Krebs - Thompson - Greenway
    Doan - McLeod - Tuch
    Rosén - Östlund - Quinn
    Malenstyn - Dunne - Geersten

Krebs got a look in preseason with Norris-TNT, so I'd presume he goes up the lineup. But Rosén or Östlund on TNT's line wouldn't surprise me to try to better balance out the AHLers.

I don't exactly hate that.  But why do we even have Geersten?

I’d suggest not making suggestions to me.

I'd suggest suggesting more realistic suggestions.  This is, after all, the internet.

That's why you hear about linemen reporting eligible in goal line offenses.  If they are an offensive lineman, they are not allowed to catch a pass.  But if they report eligible, they can catch a pass (and more importantly for most of these plays, they can line up as a receiver or tight end and it's not an illegal formation).

More information about NFL jersey numbers and having to report as "eligible".

So Mahomes bouncing a pass off of his own lineman’s helmet… is that not a penalty anymore?

I asked my friends who has reffed amateur sports.  He said there's some discretion there.  The ball hitting a player isn't automatically an illegal touch and since the lineman had his back to Mahommes it wasn't considered an illegal touch.

Sounds like Achilles from what internet is saying but we'll see.

Night Train beating me to it.

What penalty do you think it should be?

Illegal touch.  A lineman is not allowed to catch the ball.

Going for it on 4th and 2 at midfield in the first quarter was a terrible decision by the Bills. Way too early in the game to take that kind of risk — flip the field, trust your defense, and play smart football.

Yep.  One of two blunders that McDermott made (in my opinion).  The other was the overly conservative play on the last set of downs.  If they'd made a first down they would have had to attempt the field goal and KC never gets a last crack at tying it.  Fortunately the defensive secondary held firm at the end and the Bills got the win.

I can't get a feeling for Kesserling at all yet.  Like nothing good or bad.

Maybe thats a bad thing in that I don't notice him making good plays. Maybe thats a good thing that I don't notice him making bad plays.

Yeah, I feel ya.  I mean, I want him in there over Bryson or Johnson or any other -son in the depth pool, but I see a guy who doesn't make mistakes but also doesn't make impactful plays.

That might simply be him learning the system and as he gets used to the flow, the impactful plays will come.  The last couple games were his training camp.

He seems more off to me this season. My sense is he is trying to do too much and is forcing the play instead of letting the game come to him. It seems to me he is working too hard to carry the team instead of just playing his game. Tage is another player who is trying to do too much and playing too much solo hockey. The injury to Norris hurt that line.

I thought Tage looked better last night.  Maybe leave him at center until Norris returns.

I don't think Tage is necessarily better at center than wing or vice versa.  But I think shifting from one to the other when he's scuffling gives him a boost.

Is it just me or are crowds at home games alot bigger?

Last night was a player trying to score his 900th goal.  That was certainly a draw.

A few games back was the Maple Leaves.  A lot of the fans were not home fans.

But still, yeah, it is good to see a full house.

Sure, but that's one win less over 10 games which is 8 wins less over a season. I'd love to have more faith but after 14yrs, they gotta prove it.

We'll see what the next 10 games holds.

That last nine games, they collected 72.2% of available standings points.

Idc what you call it. Buffalo is currently near the bottom of the eastern conference and if the draft were right now they'd draft 9th overall. Glad we won, we aren't good enough and Kevyn should add to the team.

If you think of this season so far as two seasons, the Sabres got 0.000 standings points in the first 3 games.

In the last nine games they got 13 / 18 possible points, or 72.2%.

If the last nine games are what the Sabres really are, the get 72.2% of 158 possible points (164 total, minus 6 for the 3 game losing streak to start the season).  That is a 114 point season.

Are they the team that lost three at the start?  Hopefully not anymore.  Are they the team that got 13 points in their last 9 games?  I find it hard to believe they will sustain that pace to be honest, but if they're more like the team of the last 9 games and less like the team of the 3 game start, the Buffalo Sabres will be in the playoffs.

I said it earlier:  The 0-3 start lit a fire under them.  They started out behind, but they rose to the challenge (so far) and have played good hockey since then.  Hopefully they fully overcome the slow start, and the Sabres that accomplish that are the Sabres we see for the rest of the season.

Of course another 3 game pointless streak would wash all that down the drain.  But I'm optimistic.  The team is playing better as a team than they have in recent seasons.

Ps UPL looks like he'a trying to kick out more rebound a la Lyon but neither controls them well nor seems to know when it'd be better to freeze pucks to stop play.

I see this a lot here. What’s the story behind this one??

In conversation, it's kind of a verbal tick that Rayzor has.  Other announcer:  "The team played well this period."  Rayzor:  "No, you're right."

I think he doesn't do it as much as he used to, but he earned that meme.

I disagree. If you have more points than games played, you're over .500. Full stop. This seems to be a weird hill to die on after a Sabres win.

And yet here you are, dying on it.
