Hutton, Halak, Khudobin, Pavelec. Those guys are all 30-33, meaning we could ride them for a year and let Ullmark develop.

This is true, but mostly because there is significant value ROR on this roster as is right now. O'Reilly is the 2nd best player and a legitimately good player on a team that iced a lot of truly awful players. So if another team wants to try to pry that out of Buffalo, it had better be with a big damn crowbar. Otherwise I'm happy to watch ROR play out his contract. Additionally, we're not in a free, open market. We're also not in a hurry; we can afford patience. But for other teams in urgent need, the UFAs are this year, and if a team needs a good top six center, they should expect to over pay.

For the purposes of determining scrimmage attendance, #1C vs #1D is irrelevant. We intentionally tanked for two years, and failed to launch another two, a first overall pick is something people are going to want to see. Why mess around and not open the big house to all?
