  1. Completely reasonable. Which is not what this thread is trying to be. We've discussed every point brought up so far ad nauseum at some time or another. Darcy's drafting was well above average; according to some analysts it was near the top of the league. Not making the finals and not skating over Edmonton to the Cup was due to a disastrous string of fluky injuries. The '06-'08 team was goodgreat and well-coached by Lindy Ruff, but its downfall was the fault of tight purse strings and whatever the ###### Larry Quinn was doing. Efforts to remain competitive after the departure of Drury, Briere, and Campbell stalled with Connolly injuries, as Regier relied on him and Roy to be "two number one centers." What really ###### Darcy Regier was the inabillity to acquire quality free agents, either through his own impotence, the publicly-visible lack of a large roster budget that was perceived as a hindrance to success, the post-lockout changes in the free agent market system causing a shortage of free agents, or the lack of interest by free agents to sign in Buffalo for any number of reasons. This slide show summarizes the free agent history of the Buffalo Sabres 2009-present. Atrocious. Drafting, trading, and signing free agents comprise the all-important trifecta of player acquisition, and Regier was arguably very good at the first two. However, at different times throughout his tenure, he was either extremely bad or not allowed to be any good at the last one. And it killed him.
  2. It's our Young Stars game. And unlike the All Star version, they'll be motivated.
  3. NBC let this gem of a tweet get out this morning: Idiots. Ty Conklin.
  4. See poll. Have at it. Optional soundtrack. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqH21LEmfbQ
  5. Maybe they'll do it HarborCenter in the future? Central and intimate. And brand spanking new. And ###### sweet.
  6. Jesus. How psychologically traumatic was his career that it's not fun anymore at all? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xt1r-StivM And the following game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juTCGJ_FqG4
  7. Content providers force service providers into buying their channels in bundles. DirecTV wants a contract with Viacom to transmit Comedy Central to its customers? DirecTV is forced to pay for MTV2 and all of their other ###### as well or else Viacom blacks out all its channels. The antitrust lawsuit is going, but slowly.
  8. 3v3 would be cray cray. I'm not shitting on it; I'd like to see it experimented with in the A.
  9. Listing things we don't care about. Man, summertime on the hockey message board. Alright. Anything reality television. Any documentary about aliens, monster whathaveyous, undiscovered animals, or undiscovered alien monster animal whathaveyous. NBA. Golf. Tennis. Horse racing. Competitive sailing. Televised poker. Political spin. Dietary trends. Pharmaceuticals, pills, cosmetic treatments, snake oils. Infomercials. Any object on infomercials. Any person on infomercials. Anything on TMZ. Anything in tabloids. Banal tweets. Twats that tweet banal tweets. Corporate branding. 98% of commercials.
  10. Agreed. He would've been fun to have around. I think if we didn't sign Gionta, we probably would've signed Ott immediately. GMTM's July 1 response about, and I'm paraphrasing, "making moves that put pause on other moves unless other moves do or don't happen" seemed like a direct reference to Ott. I think Ott enjoyed his time here, and would consider signing here in the future.
  11. Not to nitpick, 11, but that was his Junior year and his first at Quinnipiac. He scored 29 points in 34 games his senior year (0.85PPG). Finished fifth on the team in points. My expectations are obviously tempered, but it's a free chance at a signing of a player that someone in our organization tabbed, and that is enough to ignite just a wee amount of intrigue. If our scouts are doing their job, then someone saw this kid play and said, "yeah, he's worth a conditional seventh or more."
  12. Peca held out for a year, seeking (what I think was a bit of an over)payment of $4M/year. It wasn't a disrespect for size- both Connolly and Pyatt are bigger than Peca. I won't dispute the grit point, but then again, those skilled players gave us quite a run post-lockout. I don't think the '06-'07 teams were full of one-dimensional underachievers.
  13. 28 NHLe points. Really developed during his college career as a freshman and sophomore with Bowling Green, then transferred to Quinnipiac. He has graduated, so if I were to guess, the condition of the 7th round pick is on him signing a pro contract with us. Should be good for Rochester at the very least. 14. Holy ######, we just fleeced the Jets for Mr. T.
  15. Because he's not worth that much. You could draft the first rounder or keep Risto/Zad or keep Hodgson or keep the high 2nd rounder, and still trade for a player of that caliber or close enough to him that you're not pissing away value. Additionally, we're not in a hurry. We have the luxury of having plenty of time to let our prospects develop into greater assets- we not only don't have to leverage the future for instant results, it would be foolish to do so. Also, one 30 goal season does not a proven player make.
  16. That's three first round picks and a high 2nd. That's almost the price of a top-flight offer sheet anyways. Any three of those things would easily net us a pick in the 2-5 overall range. So, nope, there's no deal to be made.
  17. That's a lot for Johansen. He's good. But that's a lot for Johansen. I'd do Risto/Zad and STL 1st. Or STL 1st and Hodgson.
  18. Huh. I would've thought he'd have regained a little more market value after a slightly redeeming outing in the postseason.
  19. She gets killed by dragons in season five. #GoTSpoilers
  20. But if the myth that Tim Murray doesn't do meddling has to be perpetuated in order to topple the myth that Terry Pegula does, guess what. More Tim Murray Facts: Tim Murray can cut a hot knife with butter. Tim Murray doesn't flush the toilet, he scares the ###### out of it. Jesus could walk on water, Tim Murray can swim through land.
  21. ###### Canadian first names, man.
  22. I'd trim that down. Trading Armia doesn't make sense at the moment. I'm not a big fan of trading Myers, especially in-division, but no one's untradable and Mantha's special. Mantha's 6'5", 205lbs as a 19 year old (according to wiki, the height changes) and is playing like a top-five draft pick. This year he was the Q's top scorer, league MVP, and CHL player of the year. I'd rather see Myers and Stewart for Mantha and their 1st. If GMTM can hold out for more, fine, but this is good value for both teams.
