  1. I think that the video coach would be the guy responsible for putting together the video packages that the coaches and players review between games and in-game.
  2. Also, the opportunities for lol honky jokes can't be over-valued.
  3. I like the sounds of that. I've read a few takes of "He's not a fit. Basically a higher-end version of Shakir. The Bills need a true 'X.'" I dunno. I'd rather bring in McConkey as a seemingly sure-fire very good NFL player instead of taking a risk on a big bodied prototypical X who may or may not work out. Also, has no one discussed how good it would be to get a McConkey on the Bills? It could help exorcise the demons of Super Bowls past. (That's Buffalo's own Phil McConkey. He of towel waving infamy with the New York Giants (where he was on a Super Bowl winning team). Until moments ago, I had it in mind that McConkey was on the Giants when they beat the Bills in Super Bowl XXV. No so, it turns out.)
  4. Thanks. I'm not sure why there'd be thinking that the Bills would take a guy who reputedly takes plays off. Like I said, that strikes me as disqualifying for what Beane/McDermott have always preached as the kind of players they covet: Quality character, high-motor guys who "play the game the right way." OTOH, the physical package here could be too enticing for them to pass on; they might just rationalize that they can "bring the guy around to their way of approaching the game" (or some such) or otherwise convince themselves that those criticisms were overblown, etc.
  5. I should edit to say that - more than showing limited interest in blocking - the larger criticism is that he tends to loaf off if he knows the play's not going towards him. If the player were more level headed than Pickens, I'd take a prospect that matches Pickens' skills in a heartbeat.
  6. I heard one football talking guy say that one of Mitchell's red flags is that he takes plays off, shows limited interest in blocking. If true, that sounds disqualifying for the Bills.
  7. I haven't been following closely enough, I guess. You have an NFL draft guy?!
  8. Shoutout the use of this song -- one with which I was heretofore unfamiliar. But I love this band and that sound.
  9. I watched almost the entire final 4 - certainly all of the title game - pulling for my beloved BC. That goalie from Denver was out of his effing mind. Incredible. Made more incredible - to me - because he physically presents as sort of a midsized pud. He doesn’t look the part. A little Tim Thomas, maybe. Or even akin to Marty Brodeur. I’m hopeful that BC’s fabulous freshmen return for another kick at the can (i believe that’s Leonard, Smith, Perreault?). Cutter Gauthier (all time name) is on his way to the pros, I was told.
  10. Not that it matters, but 26 is just bracing for impact with his forearms up around his head as the Capitals come flying in. The linesman comes around and grabs him, I think, in an effort to protect him from a 2-on-1?
  11. Neither? In his intensity, Dahlin reminds me a bit of Vanek -- just super wrapped up in his own thoughts, in his own head. And I swear I've seen Dahlin make the #VanekFace
  12. Yeah - I was excited that this was a sourced report. But it's not. Pure speculation.
  13. That's not a bad look for young Power. I've heard people here and elsewhere ask: What is it that Power does well? Well, he does this thing well. And he keeps good company in so doing. The ability to complete long stretch passes is indicative of some serious skill with the puck.
  14. It's fitting that Beasley would choose to react to an idiotic meme.
  15. Partially buying it though? I'll take that as a win. Sure it was. Apparently not with any real reliability. What is "partly cloudy" communicating there? I don't quite know. I think it's giving a general sense of things. But nothing specific. Certainly nothing so specific as "so, will I have a clear view of the sun from 2:30 - 3:15 pm on the forecast day in question?" I think there are a lot of entrenched misunderstandings of what meteorological terminology means in layperson's terms. and in practical effect. For example: "30% chance of precipitation" is not meant to say that there's a 30% chance of rain for you personally as you're out and about during your day today in your portion of the forecast area. Rather, it means that there's a 100% chance of rain for 30% of the forecast area. Da fuq?! I can repeat that to myself a dozen times, and it still doesn't make sense. I end up feeling like I'm in that room of mirrors made famous by the Albright Knox (AKG) Art Gallery. So now I think I've come around to agreeing with your original premise - maybe coming at it from a different angle.
  16. In his post to the Buffalo News website today, Don Paul acknowledges that there's not a lot of scientific horsepower associated with forecasting cloud cover (which he calls "a low-impact forecast element"). This helps explain why it wasn't until mid-morning on the day of the event that we learned that clouds would be clearing from west to east throughout the day. +++ What would normally be a low-impact forecast element, percentage and thickness of cloud cover, became the critical element for days. With all the expansive improvements in weather forecasting accuracy and range, the issue of if and when extensive cloud cover will be present at a specific time on an early spring day remains one of the toughest calls for meteorologists. Even models and pattern recognition remain of limited use, despite model improvement.
  17. By now, it seems clear that he is out of answers. I apologize for repeating myself: He appears to be a gifted development coach who brings a very high emotional IQ to the job of engaging with player-prospects on a personal level. He appears out of his depth when it comes to being an in-season coach in the most competitive hockey league in the world.** There's no shame in any of that! The shame arises from management being content with a team that has consistently produced mediocre results over an extended period of time. **Sheesh - can you imagine him as the head coach of a team in the Stanley Cup playoffs?! Aye, Caramba.
  18. It's a bad one, for sure. But apathy can be overcome by the rekindling of a love that still exists. I think actual contempt would be worse. I get flashes of that occasionally (e.g., "I think I effing hate this team"), but it's not a feeling that endures. I think that the presence of Peterka and Quinn help keep contempt at bay.
  19. Everyone is entitled to their own emotional reality. I sort of envy your feeling this way at this moment in time. For me, I'm feeling exhausted by and exasperated with the Sabres. I'm sure I'll feel differently about them by the time September rolls around. And I don't need to proclaim now how I'll feel then. But for now? I don't want to think about them.
