They don't rely on their top players having "career " seasons year after year. Plus they have a legit top line with playmaking skills than can cover up for missing lower talent. More depth helps too.

Amen brother!! Thompson can play center on my playoff team any day....on the second line. I've said for several years now, the Buffalo Sabres DO NOT have a legit first line. They are great line 2 and 3 line team with LOTS of depth, but don't have ANY consistent line 1 play. Check all other Eastern conferences playoff teams....look at their top lines.

Will say it again....they don't have a playoff top line. Look at all the play off teams last year from the east. Look at their top line. They can make things happen. We have a glut of second and third line players. As far as dynamic, you've got Tage on a good night. People want to disagree but that's why they are offensively inconsistent. Too many instances of tonight....chances go to waste. Denial ain't working.

I think a better, more appropriate question in this point in time is, NOT are they a better team BUT, are they a playoff team. This team could be a lot better than last year AND still miss the playoffs!! My opinion is there is A LOT of work to do for serious playoff contention. The issue is the word SERIOUS when discussing this franchise's brass.🤨

Boy, all these teams have a lot of set plays and know what and where each other is at on the ice. It's like they have responsibilities! ....as opposed to pond hockey, run and gun. and done! Wow!

A thing to think about too is the MANY, MANY,(play off intensity) post season games the sabres and their "core" have missed out on over the years. (Compare to upper level teams like the bruins with their core).the number well over 100. These type of games are absolutely invaluable in developing the grit and mindset needed to make the jumps from bottom feeders, to playoff team to real contenders. 14 years of not even a taste is devastating.

I think this is exactly what is going on. (Team was out of playoffs when obtained) BUT, being totally healthy makes him much more valuable in a possible off season trade as well!( Which I think is very much in the cards.)

i'm predicting the boo birds will be out in full force,(win or lose), then during post game press conference the players will voice that their feelings are hurt- shame on you fans.
