What would it take to get Soros and Stamkos out of Nashville if it is nothing other than picks and prospects? Soros could mentor Levi. I get Stamkos is 35 but gives veteran leadership and can play first or second line center. Fills a couple of gaping holes.

Now I know you’re missing the point of the post. Look at the 19-20 roster. Competent or incompetent ownership, all those players, including Eichel and Reinhart were on the roster. The question is whether we could have let that group mature over a couple of years and where we would be if we had.

I think you’re missing the point of the post. All of those players were on the team or in the system in 19-20. That’s a great core and at least some supporting talent (Ullmark’s much better than anything that has followed). I think even with INCOMPETENT management and coaching, you keep that team together and at a minimum, it’s a consistent playoff team.

Did we really win the Risto trade. What was that? Three years ago? Rosen has zero goals and zero assists in the NHL. Philly has at least gotten three years of a physical, veteran RHD. Oh yeah, wouldn’t it be nice to have one of those.

I’d have preferred Jorma Kaukonen but I guess you take what you can get.

The year we drafted Grigs and Girgs, we could have drafted Wilson and Vaselevskiy. Of course, it’s all hindsight but got to believe it’s a totally different franchise if we had picked those two.

Is anyone else surprised that no Sabre has ever led the league in even-strength goals? Mogilny had 76 but Selanne had 76 same year. Gare hit 50, can’t imagine many were PP goals. Of all the criminal offenses committed by this team this year, and yeah, there were a lot, one at the top of the list has to be Thompson with 37 ES goals and 7 (!) PP goals! Someone needs to be fired for that alone.

Odds of missing the playoffs 14 years in a row (this of course eliminates any factor other than the math involved in 16 teams out of 32 making the playoffs in a given year): 0.006%. Let that sink in for awhile. *Math is 0.5 to the 13th power times 100.

Take a look at the 2020 - 2021 Sabres roster. Eichel, Reinhart, Thompson up front, Dahlin, Risto, McCabe, Montaur backline, Ullmark and UPL in goal. Tell me that if that team stayed together with some tweaks, it would be at a minimum a playoff team, maybe a legitimate Cup contender. (I know, dozens of reasons that didn’t happen). Moral of the story? There shouldn’t be anything done with this roster going into next year other than some tweaks - re-sign Zucker and Greenway, dump Mattias, Joker and Bryson, for God’s sake find a veteran, physical RHD to pair with Power, if possible find a vet playmaking center, move Cozens to wing, give Cozens and Quinn next year to show they are viable NHL’ers.

Waive him and let him play in Rochester. Nobody in their right mind is going to claim him and if they do, problem solved. Get a bad contract off the books without a buyout.
