I really like Östlund's game from what I've seen of it. He's a really active player that is both intelligent and skilled. Has some pretty good defensive chops too. Excited to see that he's starting to have AHL success and trending in the right direction because I haven't always been so sure that he would ultimately develop into an NHL player.

6 shots against in almost 60 minutes toi 5v5 for jokiharju. Pretty ridiculous stat considering who the competition was at this tournament

What will be the Sabres approach at the trade deadline?
Ctaeth replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
https://sports.betmgm.com/en/blog/nhl/nhl-trade-deadline-player-rankings-top-targets-for-deadline-bm19/ Betmgm's top 10 targets for the trade deadline (Byram and cozens are both on the list). Any interest in the other guys? -
I find the honesty refreshing. I hope that they are this candid with the players behind closed doors too

Canada v usa on Saturday. Excited for that one!

I'd love them if they were on the Sabres, but I've watched too many games where they have terrorized us

it feels wrong rooting for a tkachuk

NHL...centralize your games onto two platforms and im sure that the numbers will go up. One for streaming and one for cable. There are too many different channels/streaming services playing games. Espn/espn+/nhl network/tbs/trutv/msg/msg+/abc is way too much. And thats not even with me listing out Canadian broadcasts. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills just listing this all out. And side note: I agree with the sentiment that the article is picking and choosing games. If you are going to make a sweeping conclusion like "nhl games struggling on platform x", you should be coming to that conclusion based on more than a handful of individual games.

Anyone have the breakdown of how many players are in this from every nhl team? It looks like there are a ton of lightning players. And that's not even counting their 2 best players.. kucherov and vasilevskiy. It would be unreal if they miss the playoffs this year with that much talent

Eagles winning doesn't move the needle for me

GDT: Sabres @ Predators Feb 8, 2025 - 8:00PM, MSG 📺, WGR550 📻 🎙

on a back to back and on a 6 game losing streak, the third worst team in the nhl just scored 6 on the sabres (who were icing their starting goalie). during a year that we are supposedly going to compete for playoffs. can't make this stuff up! -
two things: 1. metsa would have to be signed to an nhl contract, he's currently on a one way contract in the ahl. they ought to do this IMO and give him a shot eventually when one of the more offensive dmen goes down 2. with that being said, i'm not sure metsa is the ideal candidate to replace samuelsson. he doesn't play the sort of game that I think they would need from someone replacing samuelsson. to be fair, i'm not sure samuelsson has that game either

This confirms what we already thought: KA is full of it. It has nothing to do with palm trees. One out of three guys mentions taxes, but it's only as a secondary thing. The primary reason no one wants to come here is that we suck. And have continued to suck for so long that free agents see Buffalo as a place that will negatively impact their career if they come here. KA had one really good opportunity, IMO, to attract free agents. After we were 1 point off of the playoffs in 22-23, that should have been the time to attract free agent talent or make a trade for a player that has us on their ntc. We were a young team on the rise with a bunch of talented/skilled players. It was the easiest sell. "Come here, be a part of breaking the drought and winning the cup once this group matures." What did he do instead? He sat on his hands and changed literally zero of the forwards (and made only small changes on the defense). That offseason will forever be the reason that I will not change my mind about KA. IMO, it played a large part in what's going on today with no end to the misery in sight. Unforgiveable

it's the dahlin effect. you pair the two together and suddenly muel looks decent. you remove dahlin from the equation and you have a mediocre borderline ahl/nhl player. i would be concerned about paying byram the big bucks for the exact same reason.

Is our lineup aging backwards?

Who breaks non-playoff streak 1st, Sabres or NY Jets?
Ctaeth replied to gilbert11's topic in The Aud Club
Sabres. The formerly dominant eastern conference nhl teams are on the decline (i.e. bruins, lightning, penguins, etc). I think the bar is lower for the sabres and finding a good quarterback is difficult (jets) -
Mixing in vets with your younger players. What a wild concept, maybe the sabres should try this

I would argue that keeping Cozens for another year and NOT shipping him out for something of value is also a huge risk that seems unlikely to work out. If next year he continues his poor play, his value is going to drop like a rock with that contract. Might as well take a shot with him while he still has value. If he goes somewhere and returns to the player he was signed to be... I'm happy for him. But it's getting more and more likely with every passing game that what you see is what you get.
-
Nice to see him succeeding. Wasn't sure what was going to happen to him down there without Kulich, was kind of a sink or swim situation without him. But it appears it has forced him be more aggressive offensively rather than always deferring to his good buddy. Shows some versatility in his game, can be an assist guy or can score the goals if need be. A bunch of his points have been on the powerplay... could be a decent boost in that regard. It's worth pointing out that the Metsa, who is on an AHL contract I believe, is at 30 points (3 goals, 27 assists) in 41 games with a +10. He has leadership qualities and is the sort that you want to keep around (was a captain on quinnipiac the year they won the national title and is sporting an A with the amerks right now). I said it last year and I think I'll say it again... they should be signing this guy. I know he's a bit older, but he is good depth and he ought to get a shot at some point to show what he's got at the next level.

I feel bad for josh. He has been stepping up in these critical moments and the team ends up coming up short anyways. It's just disappointing. However, I will say that while I am disappointed, I don't feel defeated. We have the rest of JA's career to win a super bowl and I strongly believe that they will do it before he retires. Also, where was Cook on that last Bills offensive drive? Guy was electric the whole game and then suddenly they get away from him when it matters? On the first play of the last drive.. they handed it off to Ty Johnson on first down with the season on the line. I don't have anything against Ty Johnson, but Cook is far and away the more dynamic player and is half the reason the score is so close.
