To answer your questions - they make the playoffs next year. Legitimately challenge for the Cup within 3-4 years. In the playoffs for the foreseeable future. What is obvious about the youngest team in the league's direction is that the hardest part is done, accumulating talent. The rest is natural growth and experience, and some tweaking of the roster. That's what my eyes see. Your opinion may be different.

The disciplined rebuild in retrospect will be seen as a long-term success. Missing the playoffs this year is just not seeing the big picture that will unfold over the next several years. It seems pretty obvious to me that that is where this team is going.

Making the playoffs or not this year, this stretch of essentially desperate playoff-type games, facing elimination if you lose, is good for this young team. Valuable experience for next year when we're actually in the playoffs.
