  1. Granato's offensive approach was the correct one, IMO. He just did not have goaltending that was any good. So he's out, plain old Lindy is back and we have all gone to sleep. Look forward to another sleepy season. I honestly don't see the future for this franchise.
  2. amazing that 9000 season ticket holders still exist; half of them probably forget they had them...
  3. any legit vet top 6 forward will have a no trade clause with the Sabres on his list; Sabres could have 80 mil of cap space and it probably would not matter
  4. they could push Pegula to sell the team ... personally I don't believe the Sabres in WNY are salvageable. i don't see how it can work. and I do not see another rich guy with WNY ties who will buy it. the franchise burned through Golisano and Pegula, I don't see who is next players don't want to be there. period. you can "Mario Williams" them and throw a pile of $$ at them, but that will get you 4 or 5 good players. then the money runs out.
  5. glad Byram is staying .. cannot keep letting talent walk away. But I think this franchise is fatally flawed (1) a place players simply don't want to be (2) an organization still working off how it screwed up the Eichel situation. (3) Poor faciities and no path forward. Kind of where the Bills were before McBeanes showed up .
  6. any established player with an NMC (and all of them do) is not coming to the Sabres. so move on from this one.
  7. hope not. trading for him would work for sure
  8. any "big swing" player will have a no trade clause, which means they ain't comin to WNY, so "big swings" are probably not possible
  9. Sabres will score about 100 goals next season. mid to high end talent (and their agents) will mainly not want to be stuck in WNY with this organization when other options exist. The Bills went through this for 20 years pre-Allen
  10. Does Byram simply not want to be with the Sabres? Seems he is certainly worth re-signing? Is it that he won't sign any contract the Sabres put in front of him? Is this the same situation with JJ Peterka? If so, what possible future does this franchise have, if its best players don't want to be with the franchise at any price?
  11. anyone with a season ticket to this team really needs to find something else to do in winter.. ski, ice skate, anything...
  12. i miss buying $2 bottles of beer straight out of the case on the hallway floor, that was a loong time ago
  13. omg make this season go away. they looked light, small and soft compared to the Leafs
  14. but making that annual run to .500 by season - end. highlight of the year ! 🙂
  15. You can't build an NHL team via the draft alone. You need to get existing high level talents to come as free agents as well. But they won't when they have palm trees and zero state taxes as an alternative. Hockey is a winter sport, and the last place today's single, rock star millionaire pro athletes want to be in the winter is WNY paying sky high taxes. For example, show me 5 unmarried Bills players who stay in WNY for 5 minutes after the season is over. Sucks, bc we know its a good place to be, but it is what it is. Adams handled that issue in a less than smooth way, but he was right that his hands are somewhat tied when it comes to improving the roster. for f's sake, he's sitting on a pile of cap space, ready to spend it and the best players still have b lo at the top of their no-trade list. The "No Trade" list is a testament to how rare the difference makers are in the NHL (that clubs have to agree to it to get them) Not sure there is a solution here as you need to have a great organization and be good on the ice to attract top players and coaches, but you need top players and a great front office/coaches to be good. Its a very nasty Catch-22 situation with the fan base taking the biggest hit.
  16. yeah anyone who thinks pro sports team Head Coaches report to the GM is about 30 years out of phase
  17. the US/Canada game was great.
  18. who would want the job? what a crappy situation to plop into
  19. Obviously, with the improved goaltending, they made a mistake in firing Granato and his go go go score as much as possible offense. they strategy probably works if the goaltending is good. win every game 7-5. works for me. Bring Granato style back. It will work now.
  20. not sure there actually IS a path to avoid the ship sinking.. FAs won't come; trade targets will block any trade to the Sabres; the young guys have guaranteed contracts therefore top 10-12 guys aren't changing in the near term...
  21. without the long term contracts, the players would have left in free agency. so at least the team controls where the player goes, not the player... I get it, that is small consolation, but WNY is a toxic NHL destination for players right now. not sure what the roster would be if the long term contract guys were not there... would be worse than it is now I would imagine. Not sure how to fix this/// letting go anyone who had a hand in screwing up the Eichel relationship would be the 1st step I would imagine. Can you imagine what Eichel says about this organization?
  22. yeah none of this is about $$. Lindy has more than enough of that; he has stated this was his last coaching gig; so yeah this will be where he goes up to the front office and off the bench. He's a good hockey guy, but the roster is so young, light, small and soft that it needs to fitted out with tougher guys.
  23. this is what i think happens. Ruff is his buddy and no coach will be able figure this out with this roster build. don't make Ruff the scapegoat. Scotty Bowman couldn't succeed with this baby faced roster. Time to do a Bills/2016-style reset. Trade away the AHL-level figure skaters and get tougher.
