I would put healthy Savoie close to Benson but shoulder setback Savoie is closer to the others right now. He is starting at ground zero with training camp. Savoie doesn’t have the details Benson does but he has electric game breaking speed, smarts, skill and compete.

Only preseason but Montreal score in the final minute to tie the Leafs then score a minute later in OT to beat them. Hate to see it😃

Kid has a lot of work to do but I expect a big year in the OHL for him. Wahlberg, Medima, Richard give them a nice blend of size and skill in the prospect forward group.

I agree with Romo that the run game is much different this year. Cook is breaking out as a star but Murray and Harris give them real quality depth and open up the offence a lot more. Once they get Knox and Kincaid more consistently involved it is a really balanced lineup. The O line has played very well and a healthy Gabe Davis is a big factor

Dorsey deserves his flowers today. Called an absolutely brilliant game. Just think of that pass rush with Miller in the mix.

The bottom line to me is this: He has earned the chance to be on the Opening Day roster. He has earned the right to play 8 regular season games. He has outplayed VO, Kulich, Rosen, Biro, Rousek. If you send him down now and hand that spot to one of the others then the wrong message is being sent to the team. How he plays during those games will determine where he plays the rest of the season.

You are sending the kid the wrong message if you don’t keep him for the 9 games at this point. He has earned it. See how he does in the regular season and go from there but he has done everything you could ask of him so far.

I think Murray is the guy to get plucked. 6’5, 230pound wingers are appealing to some teams and one would take a flyer for sure.

What do you mean zero CHL seasons? Benson has 3 seasons and if he plays this season that would be 4 CHL seasons.

Last summer he had posted a beach pic and the kid is ripped. He’s not carrying baby fat around.

Unless Clifton and EJ are banged up I have no idea why they haven’t played a single game yet. Both new to the team and system you would think they would want to see them in Atleast one game at this point. Im glad people are finally coming around on Ryan Johnson. He was a big signing and he will be a longtime piece on the backend. His skating and brain will allow him to play a long time in the league. Like to see Biro play well again today. He has outplayed Rousek to this point.

Not a bad game considering the rosters tonight. I liked Rosen and Biro Comrie played well and I am more comfortable with him backing up Levi than UPL JJ was dancing tonight Greenway made a nice defensive play to setup the Tage goal but he can’t be on the PP. I think Johnson has outplayed Bryson but I think he starts with the Amerks

At the prospects tournament he had impressive moments and moment where he made some brain farts. There is an interesting package there for a 7th round pick if he can unlock it.

You are correct. The first goal was brutal but the others were not on him. The problem with UPL is that he doesn’t install any confidence that he is taking any steps forward and becoming a solid option. I mean Levi seems to be the real deal and he looks the part. At this point I might feel more confident with Toker or Cooley as his backup as opposed to UPL and Comrie. And I don’t know how Martin Jones keeps finding work. He is brutal and was no different last night on those 2 goals.

The biggest takeaway from the game is that we never have to see that lineup again.😁 outside of Johnson I don’t think any of the fringe guys looked like they made a push for the lineup.

I honestly think he can. His best spot in the lineup is where he is now: with Tage and Skinner. That line will produce with him on it. And Benson is so good defensively it helps them be more well rounded. It then moves Tuch to a line with Mitts and say Greenway. That’s a very solid line. Then you have JJ Cozens Quinn (when healthy) That is a very solid top 9 with real balance. I don’t know if he makes it but he is an outlier type talent and I wouldn’t be shocked if he did.

Outside of Tavares their lineup looks weaker than the Sabres. St. Thomas definitely not getting the A squads on either side.

You usually play most of your top guys at home. I remember one year I went to a Redwings-Leafs preseason game in Toronto. The Leafs sat out Sundin, Mogilny, Tucker, Kaberle, CuJo, basically all their stars. The fans were PISSED. Leafs lost. Next night they played in Detroit and played all the stars. I just saw that Matthews, Marner, Nylander And Reilly were at the Rogers Centre meeting the Jays so i don’t think the Leafs are sending the A squad either. Its a funny game in a small neutral ice arena.

He has elite instincts that the great players do. He reads the play in advance and anticipates where the puck is going to be and which read the player with the puck will make. That is why he has so many takeaways and it looks like the puck always follows him around the ice. When he has the puck he knows which read to make and how long to hold the puck and the right moment to distribute it to a teammate. That why people say he makes any line better and he makes his teammates better because he gets them the puck at the right time in the right spot. If you watched his junior highlights you will notice they look exactly the same as his two exhibition game highlights. He has easily translated his game up a level even though he is not playing full NHL teams yet. I think he gets the 9 game tryout and then they go from there.

And the Shane Wright exemption could make it interesting. Savoie literally misses by a single day and Covid was thrown into the mix. If they really wanted to fight I think they would have a good argument. Its just too bad we can’t see him out here in one of these preseason games. The other kids have looked good.

I think he has an illness. The Boston fans mentioned it. They said it started last season and they thought he was going to be let go before the season started but he seems to be back.
