  1. I don’t want the first pick this year. Too much pressure to take Power who I don’t think is the best option. Either trade down a couple spots or lose the lottery would be fine with me. Especially with the new rules about only winning the lottery so many times. God forbid this doesn’t get turned around but winning for Wright or Bedard the next 2 years would be much more appealing.😁

Ya, no kidding. I've mentioned this one before when we were bitching about Sabres bad drafting. Bruins totally had the right idea loading picks in a very deep draft year but then totally blew it. I can see the DeBrusk pick. The old family lineage scouting bias strikes again, and Zoboril does play in their top 6 now but Senyshyn was a total bust. The players they passed on all so much better.

Now if we hadn't picked Nylander................. 🙂

They would have 1-2 more Cups right now with those 3 and their window would be much bigger.

I call this the Sensyhyn-Barzal paradox.

Imagine if Boston took Barzal, Connor and Chabot with those 3 first picks. They were the 3 players selected right after Debrusk, Sensyhyn and Zorbril went to Boston.🤣

    Marchand was drafted 71st overall.

And Boston didn’t trade down from #1 to draft him because they didn’t know he would be the player he turned out to be.  I have no problem with you liking the player but trading down from 1 for him is asinine.  Move the 2nd and a player to move up and get him.

  5. Much better game by Guenther against Latvia. Showed a lot more of his game.  McTavish with a couple of goals. Clarke is all over the ice, makes a lot of plays.  Bedard was dangerous but didn’t score. Wright did not play. Stank oven is 5’8 but gets his nose dirty.

  6. Here are L’Heureux’s draft Rankings by the big sites.  Trading down from #1 for him would be an all timer. And what is his appeal? He gets suspended a lot for being stupid?  This would be like trading Eichel to NJ for Miles Wood because “we want someone who hits people.”

You know the guy that really intrigues me in this draft is Zachary L'Heureux.  I would trade down to get him mid 1st round or make a deal for a second first round pick. I know this will raise a few eyebrows and maybe a few scoffs, but I think he could be the next Brad Marchand.

You would trade from 1 or 2 down to the middle of the 1st to take a guy ranked at the end of the 1st round on a hunch he might turn out like another player? What?

  8. Guenther didn’t really standout last night but still had 2 helpers. Just one game, doesn’t mean anything.

Clarke will be a RHD along the lines of Drysdale. Good mobility, instincts and puck distribution.

Rosen had some nice jump for Sweden. One of the few players that stood out positively for the Swedes

The next 3 games for Canada could be big time blowouts but hockey is funny that way.  Watch them beat Latvia 1-0 tonight.😂

I understand we haven't seen a ton to base this on, but to me, Beniers is the epitome of what Adams wants the Sabres to be: fast, skilled and relentless.

I fully expect to draft him if he is available where we pick.

That is what I have been saying.  If Adams is serious about “What a Sabre is” then Beniers has to be the pick. Cozens-Beniers is how you start to build an identity, culture for your franchise.

Canada are DESTROYING Sweden 8-0 after two periods.  Amazing when Canada can send their best to this tournament.

Next year’s #1 Shane Wright with a hat trick. 2022 #1 Bedard has had some nice chances.  I don’t see it with Edvinsson AT ALL. Big and skates well, thinks horribly out there.

10-0 with 10 minutes to go. Dman Brandt Clarke with a couple goals.

A quote or a link sure would help here.

This was one of the quotes. Basically throws Skinner under the bus for not buying into the system or culture he wanted to build in Carolina. He is not coming here to build a culture/system with Skinner here long term.

HC Rod Brind'Amour at media day today on the Jeff Skinner trade and the message it sends to the locker room: "I think it sends a message of what kind of Hurricane we're looking for, what kind of player we want. Everybody's available. You've got to produce; you've got to do the things we're asking you to do, otherwise you're not safe. So it was the right move. I think the guys understand you've got to come ready to play and do what we're asking. Otherwise you're not a Hurricane. We can't have you."

If Sabres end up drafting 5 and the first 4 off the board are Beniers, Guenther, Eklund and Powers.
    are you taking Hughes ?

Hughes, Brandt Clarke (RHD), Kent Johnson or Edvinsson will be in that conversation at #5.

  14. What is your take on Edvinsson? I saw a guy with little hockey sense and then I watched the Scouching video and oh boy. I just don’t see a top 3 pick there unless someone falls in love with the sexy skating/size combo. Praise the Lord it is not Buffalo🤪

    Honorable mentions:

    Aatu Raty C

    Chaz Lucius C

    Mason McTavish C/W

    Zach L'Heureux C/LW

    Simon Edvinsson LHD

    Matt Coronato LW

    Sasha Pastujov LW

  15. The league went through a stretch where every dman drafted was a “puck moving defencemen”.  Being a defensive defenceman equaled not being a good defenceman.  But the more things change the more they stay the same in hockey.  You will always need players who are solid in their own end, can pin players along the board, use their size and reach to break up plays.

Mattias will play a long time and fill a big defensive/leadership role.  His offensive totals will surprise too. He won’t impress with open ice hits but he will clear guys in front of the net and pin them in the corners.

Looks like Beniers is dropping as expected and Guenther moving up

    https://www.nhl.com/news/top-32-prospects-for-2021-nhl-draft/c-323907274

LOL How have all these players risen or dropped when no one has played games lately.  Classic “the boss wants you to create some new content”

why is everyone so high on Edvinsson, kid has the hockey IQ of a piece of wood. Great tools, no toolbox.

  17. The problem is that drafting is an inexact science in all sports.  It is easy to look back 5 years later and say that guy turned out and that guy didn’t but at the time you don’t know.  When Tampa takes Point in the 3rd round they have no idea that he is going to turn out to be a star. Detroit admitted when they took Datsyuk late they had no knowledge he would turn into a superstar, it was a just a player they like that late on the board.

If most scouts are consensus that Power is the top pick for the draft then he will go 1st. No one will know for years how that works out, be it development, injuries, the coaching he receives.  Each player in every draft is an individual, you can’t say “he reminds me of this guy so he will bust or he reminds me of this guy so he will be a star”

I appreciate your opinion, but I’m very skeptical of your absolute certainty with no supporting information presented.

He is mad because he likes Finns better but Raty stock have dropped compared to Beniers😀  Guenther is really good though, like to see him at the U18s.
