GM Kheevyn's phone had better be ringing off the hook after he traded a veteran Cup-winning veteran center and retained salary for a 3rd and 5th. A 3rd is expected to get to the AHL. A 5th is a complete crapshoot, but basically isn't going to amount to anything. And yes, Staal was unfocused, borderline-negligent garbage this season and we're better off without him. But once you sell an asset well below value, you'll have to fight to get anything close to market value for the rest of the garbage.

    Into the garbage chute, GM.

MTL Bergevin is happy to trade with us.

Now STL is happy to trade with us. Cap-wise I don't see how STL can manages it unless it's absurd (Hall plus 50% retention for Sundqvist, Dunn, and Kyrou). All their contracts are on NTCs.

So he is washed up hot garbage yet he should have got a lot more for him. You will be lucky to get a 1st for Hall with retention

Word on the street is he's had a second interview and it could be soon.

Karamanos was hired after the first interview. The second interview was him asking if he could leave.😜

I took a precursory look at Bob’s list and saw him ranked 4th, and thought “if we do get 1st pick, I doubt we get Beniers if those rankings hold up”. Not a thesis just a thought

Rankings could change wildly, and it could be a non consensus even deeper than 1/2 (Hischier Patrick)

Bob’s list is from Dec 15, before the WJCs even took place. I wouldn’t even worry about the top of this draft, take the guy you want, no one is on another tier then then the others.

  4. There is no consensus #1 and there might not be by draft time.  You can’t compare this year to any other because of Covid.  A lot of rankings get finalized based on playoffs but some leagues haven’t even started, some are truncated, Michigan with the big 3 was pulled from the Frozen Four.

This year will be about projection and who the teams like at the top of the draft. After round one will be the ultimate crapshoot because lack of games for a ton of players.

This is a draft where scouts will make their reputations.  You know the perfect year to chop your scouting staff to almost nothing.🥺

  5. “Even though we have traded Staal we still don’t think there is any room on the roster for R2 to get a look.

Give me CJ Smith, R2, Fogarty for the rest of the season.  They have nothing to lose.  Fogarty atleast is the type of player they want “a Sabre” to be. Plays with some grit and passion.

Cozens, Mitts, R2, Sheahan should be the centre spine moving forward.  Let’s see what they have got.  What is the worst dat happens, they lose a couple games.😉

  6. I don’t think there will be a ton of moves.  Teams are against the cap. Some teams will be looking for super cheap depth, others for dollar in dollar out type deals.  Who would of thought JJ to the Ave would be the first deal?

I hope Adams looks for some young players ready to step in that bring it every night. They definitely need a goalie.  That is why I would ask Boston for Vladar.  That kid is ready to start in the NHL.

This is pretty much how I feel about Beniers.  I have not done enough research to say if I would take him #1 or not though.

This year there really isn’t a clear cut#1 and some of the draft sites have him #1. The problem with some of the kids not playing this year is that we don’t know who would have broken out with a huge draft season and establish themselves as a top prospect.  Quinn wasn’t considered a top draft prospect last year and then he had a huge season with 52 goals and really established himself.  That and the fact that there is no McDavid type runaway top pick makes it interesting.

I think Beniers is the guy out of the top group of players that the Sabres really need moving forward.  If he was ranked around 10th then it would be an issue but he is ranked Ming the top guys in the draft.

  8. If the Sabres end up with #1 after the lottery and don’t take Beniers then Adams speel about what a Sabre is was a complete load of garbage. The kid looks like a bigger, much better skating ROR. Kid competes all over the ice every shift.  A lot of the scouting reports compare him to Toews at the same age. Slam dunk pick to me.  Wouldn’t be the sexiest 1st OA pick but would have a big impact on the team moving forward.

If this is the full quote below, then frankly I don't have a problem with it.  I look at his effort the last several years and see him competing and showing grit and heart.  He deserves an "A" on his jersey.  Whether he is truly a top 2 defender is an altogether different question.

They are blowing it all up! Trading all the players not nailed down and bringing in Leaman to build a program from scratch.🤯

I wonder if Adam’s is waiting for Brind’Amour to become a free agent this summer ?

“Hey Rod, Kevyn Adams, Buffalo Sabres.  Remember when yo ran Jeff Skinner out of town because he didn’t buy in to your system? Well we have him locked up at $9 million for the next 7 years, you want to jump onboard as coach here?” LOL

This got me thinking...I don’t remember hearing about Leaman being interviewed last time around.  Who else did they interview...other than RK?

Leaman was interviewed to take over Rochester but decided to stay in college instead.  Leaman is a good coach, has a good track record but bringing him in to this situation would be another mistake.  This situation is screaming for a Boudreau.  Leaman makes sense if they intend on blowing the whole thing up, trading Eichel and the others, and starting from scratch.

But knowing the Pegulas as we do, they will hire Leaman, keep this group together and scratch their heads when they are still in this position 2 years from now.

  12. Someone who can drop the gloves and some size, heart and physicality in the bottom 6. A competent goaltender would do wonders. Move Cozens to C permanently.

Bryson, Borgen and Samuelsson should all be in the lineup on the backend.

Funny how Ralphs post sounds like he’s removed or separate  from the challenge he’s faced with but he is a part of the challenge that he’s faced with. Your coaching is part of the problem that you face Ralph. Face it. You are not above this problem. You are a part of it.

Sounds to me like Ralph might be tapping out here. Your comment sounds right.  Like he is on HNIC panel commenting on the team rather then admitting that his system is a complete and utter failure.

If Jeremy White is implying that Boudreau was laughing at the Sabres organization and therefore would not consider working here, I totally disagree.

I wouldn't spend 10 seconds analyzing his broken up phone call, but if he was offered the job and appropriate salary, of course he'd come here.

He isn't going to get offered the job; Ralph isn't going to get fired.

    Why the F not!?

That's where the conversation should be right now, not on Boudreau.

Marek asks Boudreau what interests him in the NHL these days and Boudreau’s quote is “Uh, I’ll say all the Buffalo games.” Laughter

He is saying he is following them closely because an opportunity might pop up soon.

  15. I would like to see them bring in Boudreau. Veteran successful NHL coach on a number of teams.  Is known for turning teams around and creating offence. Also from St. Catherine’s.

Lets see this team with a quality NHL coach that knows how to utilize players.  If the team turns it around, great.  If the results are similar then you know the core is rotten and it needs to be blown up.

  16. One suggestion on another board I like best is moving Eichel to the Hawks for Dach and Boqvist.  I don’t know if the money would work but if the Hawks still want to go for it with Kane and the core there.  Dach would be a big, top centre and Boqvist and Dahlin would be a great pairing.  Pipe dream but that would be the type of return I would want if Eichel is moved.

Sorry, that wasn't meant to be a shot.

There were direct reports when Krueger was hired that Krueger's name was one Rutherford had saved, and he recommended Botterill take a look. I don't have time to go hunting right now, but there might be links in the Krueger hiring thread that just got resurrected.

https://triblive.com/sports/recommendation-from-penguins-gm-jim-rutherford-helped-sabres-choose-new-coach/            Here is an article on  this.

  18. These lower numbers are because they are 1 year deals.  The players know that the  market is off because of the realities of the pandemic.  They are betting on themselves for next year and hoping the market resets itself.  I think VO will be one year at a lower number too and then they can look at their next moves: trade a dman, upgrade in net, circle back to Kahun possibly.
