So does matthew beniers go down in your rankings after this game ?

    Why would he?

At this point the only guy I am not really interested in is Edvinsson because I question his hockey sense.

Power, Clarke, Beniers, Hughes, Eklund and yes even Guenther I can live with.

  2. If they had settled on Granato they would not be wasting money on flying multiple coaches in for an interview.  They don’t care about backlash, look at the season they just had.  I think Adams wants to get this right. They probably have no problem going with Granato if he is the best candidate but if one of the interviews blows them a way and fits like a glove then they will hire that person.

They are not going to hire Granato because he is the cheap option and yet turn around and spend a lot of money co ordinating to bring in a ton of coaches to interview to “save face.”

I have no idea how this thing works.

Are the Sabres guaranteed a top 2 pick like in the damn 2014 and 2015 draft?

The top 2 spots are determined by the lottery so the Sabres can choose 1st, 2nd or 3rd depending on how the lottery plays out.  There is no great prize at #1 and no one can say the player at #1 will be better then #3 so it really is not a huge deal where they end up.

I continue to shake my head, both at the situation with ownership and the reaction of some here. Is it me? Adams and now Karmanos have been hired to turn things around. Let them do it, unfettered. Making the front office look like an NHL front office again is a no-brainer. Nothing should have to be explained to the Pegulas. It's a waste of resources and worst of all it colors the decision-making process. If Terry's not a big analytics guy, it shouldn't matter. Get him out of the decision making. His thoughts on any Eichel trade should be moot.

Take the best run teams in any sport and I can guarantee you that the front office meets with ownership to share the plan/next steps.  That is how modern sports work. That is part of the deal. Now you can hate if you believe the Pegulas are given too much input but no one has proof of how those meetings are going.  But meeting and saying yeah or nah to the front office’s plan is par for the course.  Just be glad it is not a setup like Toronto where Adams and Karmanos would have to go in front of a Board of Directors, all with different ideas and try to sell their plan.

Ha. That was my exact experience.  Although if we had drafted Rossi and his Covid year happened it would be a year of hearing how Rossi will never play now and it was so Sabres to draft him.😂

A center prospect, plus 2 other decent prospects (ages 19 and 20). All of which will likely contribute on the Sabres roster before this year’s 1OA does. TSN’s Seravalli was the one who first reported the Kings interest. So, if Byfield is off limits, then this is all moot. Cross the Kings of the list and we just lost a great trading partner. However, if this is posturing and it may take more to pry him out, then it’ll take us adding to the trade.

I just think that as Sabres fans, we always overvalue our players and suggest potential trades that would never happen in real life.

So do you think Sabres fans are overvaluing Eichel?  We’re you happy with the return for ROR?  Was that proper value?

Probably not the right thread, but the above Kings trade idea may not be so laughable. TSN has already reported that Byfield is a non-starter. I think for a fair trade to occur, but sides need to feel some pain. It’s gotta hurt.

1OA this year has no consensus and likely won’t be a contributor for 2-3 years (and it possible, may never be). We’re trading away a guy who’s elite when healthy, but also has a solid injury history. There’s risk there. And I didn’t even get into the “malcontent” stuff. Coming back are 3 players who are farther along than this year’s 1OA and very likely will be very good NHL players, plus Byfield has 1C potential. If anything, maybe the Kings throw us a 2nd rounder or condition 1st next year.

TSN doesn’t know that Byfield is a non starter, they are guessing.  And if he is then there is no deal with L.A.  In what world do you trade a franchise 24 year old centre plus the first overall pick for a centre prospect. My God that is just beyond awful.

Thats all have to say to our great owners

Carvel is a good coach. If he was coming in as an assistant that would be cool but no as HC.  If this team is rebuilding then Granato is the guy.  If they are somehow pulling this thing back on the tracks to try and compete by keeping everyone then there are a lot of vet coaches out there to hire.

I feel his development was lost due to what you  Described he wont be the player that was once projected first overall

    Sucks for him

He needs to get away from the Flyers. He will always be a waste of a 2nd OA pick there.  He needs a fresh start where he can just be another face in the lineup.  I think he can still have a decent career but yeah his trajectory was altered with the migraines.

Me too. The Couturier comp also seems like it may fit, though I think he's a good bit bigger. Is a poor-mans Patrice Bergeron too high praise? ROR?

Hischier seems like the one though. Offensive side doesn't light the world on fire (especially as a number 1 OA) but was named captain already and is the leader of his team. If we drafted Hischier this year, would that be disappointing? I'm not sure.

You can only draft who is available. The Devils can’t draft Hischier and be mad they didn’t get McDavid because McDavid wasn’t available and Hischier was the best talent there.

This is the main reason I don’t care if the Sabres get the 1OA pick this year, rather they didn’t.  If they really want Beniers but take him 1OA then it is a lot of negative BS about his ability as a 1OA. But if they take him 30A then that same narrative doesn’t apply and he is free to play and develop his own game. Still a high standard at 3 OA but not the same as 1OA. Power seems to be the one everyone is focusing on at 1OA but will he be the best player from the draft? I have my doubts.

Seeing how he was ROTY in the whl ( beat wright) and 2nd in the chl for ROTY (winner wright)

And was on pace to break 100 ponits this year if not for covid

Yeah he has a pretty high calling.

    Hes super fast

    Great 2 way game

    Can score everyway possible

    Elite playmaker

     His motor never stops

My only dislike is he needs to hit the weight room

How you don't like this guy blows my mind because he didn't have more points in under 18

Full disclosure: I really don’t care if they draft Guenther. I have just been playing with you because of your unhealthy obsession with crapping on Beniers for no good reason.  I prefer Beniers but Guenther brings a lot of the same qualities even though I was concerned with his game at the U18s.  Let’s see how Power and Beniers do at the Worlds. Unfortunately Eklund is injured and won’t play.

It sounds like he wants to go with a player that has the highest calling.

Please explain to us why Guenther has the highest ceiling.  After watching him play I would be worried about him hitting his floor let alone his ceiling.

Rumor has it the following top 3 lines are written on a sticky note in Adams' office

    Ruotalainen - Beniers - Quinn

    Olofsson - Cozens - Peterka

    Asplund - Mittelstadt - Thompson

    Michkov Wright Bedard

    Ruots Beniers Quinn

    Olofsson Cozens Peterka

    Asplund Mitts Tage

Things are really reading to me that it's not Eichel who wants to be traded, it's that the Sabres FO has decided to move on from him. I really hope it's not true, but the language being used by both Adams and Karmanos sure seems to be hinting at it.

I think Eichel wants out and the Sabres are sick of his sh$t. They realize it isn’t working with him and want to reshape this team even if it hurts now.

Do you keep trying to Reno the dilapidated house or do you bite the bullet, tear it down and build a new house in your vision?

I think this is where they are. They know the fans aren’t going to show up so they might as well try to rebuild it the way they think will work.  Grow the young core, get good young assets for the big guns that want out and hey if you get a Wright or Bedard along the way so be it. Adams really wants an identity for the Sabres, like the Bruins always have.

This is where I think their headspace is right now.
