I think Samuelsson grabs a spot by the throat next season. He is exactly what they need back there. Big, strong, physical, can skate and headman the puck. A true leader. Him and Borgen could be a McKee-Warrener type pairing for Buffalo.
Bryson I see like McKenzie from the Bills. Electric player but you don’t want him in every play. He would be a great 7th dman that you put in the lineup to change the pace, give a different look. I do like him.

I would like to hear what really happened with Chris Taylor. That is the only thing I see as pointing to “bad person” but we don’t know the details there.

A centre spine of Eichel, Cozens and Mittelstadt is young but could be a handful for other teams next year.
I know Asplund is playing well on Mitts’ wing but he could be a solid 4C. Bury Eakin.
Beniers😀

Let everything play out, there are a dozen games left. You just added a major new voice in the mix in Karmanos and I believe more voices will be coming in after the season. If the team finishes like this for the next dozen games then you are stupid not to give him the job.
Granato has completely changed the system and has gotten a bunch of depleted kids who just went thru an 18 game losing streak to believe in themselves. I think though that the additions of Ellis and Girardi are being overlooked. This staff has pulled a lot out of a group that other coaches haven’t. Imagine this group with Eichel, McCabe, Ullmark, Girgs playing and Eakin, Reider, Miller, Irwin out.
They took Boston to the shootout and beat Washington with Tokarski in net.
IF the Sabres finish strong like this and the young kids continue to shine and they don’t bring Granato back then they better make damn sure that the next coach isn’t some head strong, play the vets type coach that stunts the kids again.
How many coaching changes do they need to go through? If the season ends like it is going now then offer Granato a 2 year deal. Let him continue to develop the kids. If a couple years from now it looks like they need a different coach to get them over the playoff hump then so be it but this guy is working wonders with what he has been given.

“Pietrangelo higher hockey IQ than Hughes at that age IMO. Othman vs Raty was as easy as it gets for us. Raty is not even on several NHL scouts lists anymore. It starts with his skating and goes on from there. He has not progressed as a player and we (and it seems many NHL team scouts) are done ranking him based on what we/they saw 3 years ago. “
Quote from Mark Edwards, head of hockeyprospect.com. He also said a lot of scouts think this is one of the worst draft in years. No studs at the top and everyone after the 10th pick is a question mark.

At this point I'd rather have 22-year-old Casey Mittelstadt over 30-year-old Ryan O'Reilly.
The thread title seems so naive now, doesn't it?
22 year old Mitts, 20 year old Cozens, 18 year old Beniers😀

I personally hope it’s not Buffalo. I want more out of the next coach. Although I’d love to have him as a assistant coach.
Define”more”. More what, reputation?

Can you imagine if they sit Eakin when The Drake arrives? This board might explode😀

There's a clear top 7ish players and then there is another 10 or so players and then another 20 or so players. It is a mess of a draft.
Even those 7 players are all over everyone’s lists. Power seems to be settling in as 1st on a lot of lists but I don’t think he is the best player.
-
It just shows how all over the map this year will be with a Covid season. Everyone will have a huge variation in their lists.

A certain Finnish player isn’t even ranked in the first round.

I am 95% sure the Sabres will take Berniers if he’s available to them.
Hey Tom, I am newer on this board so I don’t know if you have mentioned it before but do you have connections or hear things from people around the organization? You seem to have insight.

You can't be serious? So when scouts say oh this ×××× player Would have gone 1st in this draft we just Ignore it? They said the same thing about Jack Eichel
Maybe you don't Pay attention to Lundell but he's destroying a league for man as a 19 year old and putting up numbers that just don't happen at his age
1) He isn’t even a point per game, that is not “destroying” a men’s league.
2) You aren’t getting it. You can’t compare Lundell’s year this year and say he would go above players in their draft year.
I like Lundell, I would have been fine with the pick last season but saying he would easily be 1st this season is wrong. -
13 minutes ago, Buffalonill said:
Raty is not close to lundell at all when it comes to 2 way play.
Yes lundell would go number 1 in this draft not sure if serious?
No Lundell wouldn’t. You can’t count his draft+1 season against kids who are in their draft year. You just sound like a guy with an extreme bias for Finnish players who wants to crap on non Finnish players.

Yes lundell would go 1 overall in this draft pretty easy.
And now the Bright minds of the organization let's draft matthew beniers..
When you could have easily drafted Lundell who is better in every single category
Smart
Your act just sounds like trolling. Lundell would not go number 1 easily in this draft. And Raty has had a disappointing season.
-
Why? Who is the de facto number 1 pick they will miss out on? The draft experts don’t even know. You are just a well off drafting 5th as 1st this season. This is the perfect year to win down the stretch.

Hall had a beautiful pass to Sheahan, or I guess we now call it a giveaway😀

Of course not, but if you ranked the GMs and how they did on deadline would you put Adams near the top or the bottom? imo it's down in the depths. Horrible job.
What would you have done?
Hall had a no trade and would only waive for Boston. Hall was absolutely awful this year and is making $8 million. What wizardry would have you pulled off with Boston?
Staal has gone to Montreal and been worse then he was here which is shocking to believe. Getting two picks for him was more than fair.
Montour was analytically one of, if not the worst defence man in the entire league.
We are in last place because these guys were awful. Teams going for the Cup don’t usually want awful hockey players.
I swear sometimes fans thinks GMs are just idiots who look at a name and say, “he is well known, let’s add him regardless” without actually looking at how they are playing.

Here’s the thing, they don’t have to do anything today. They have 15 more games, many against playoff teams that the Sabres are currently 1-17 against.
I have no feeling one way or the other. 15 games and their outcome will play a huge factor in not only fans opinions but in the front office’s as well.
There is no doubt the kids look much better which is great but let’s see how they do against the big boys down the stretch.

How much do you weigh a victory under current circumstances vs., say, next October/November?
What people forget is that watching the team now when they are out of it and a win is nice but a loss is just “oh well they are out of it” is a lot difference then losses to start next season when everyone is still in it. They are still 1-17 against teams in playoff spots.

To the get something now crowd, what is the “get”? If someone was offering a 6th for Ullmark then you would just take that and leave Tokarski and Houser to close out the season? Not many goalies moved.

Hall is a recent Hart winner and Adams is a freaking idiot letting him go for a second and a 4th line swap.
What would you have got for him?

Classic Buffalo reporter reporting. You would think some of these guys would be plugged in a little but nope, always just posting links to other people reporting on the Sabres.

Like your idea. Only thing I might tweak is putting Bjork with Jack. They are friends who played together growing up. Bjork has the wheels to play with him and if Jack and Sam turn him into an offensive scorer then that is found money:
Bjork Eichel Reinhart
Skinner Cozens Ruots
Asplund Mitts Tage
Agree that VO would be the guy to move and see what you can get. Ruots adds everything he does at a fraction of the price.
