Have seen different topics regarding off season moves and what the team needs to upgrade.
Some say Quinn, Krebs and Peterka will be on the opening day roster. This one I don't agree with. I feel in order for the Sabres to take the next step, Krebs and JJP need to start in AHL. Need a year like how Thompson spent a year developing his game.
There have been many opinions on Olofsson. Do we trade him? Others have said you can't trade him, he scores goals and the Sabres need goal scorers. I would trade him if you are bringing up Krebs, JJP, and Quinn. If you keep him, sign him for one year and then trade next year.
Mitts was set to have a break out year, but injuries...will he be ok as Sabres #2 center?
Asplund is good defensively but doesn't provide enough offense to be a top 6?
Some want Sabres to sign Hinny. Where does he fit in?
So in looking at some of these ideas how do the Sabres improve if they don't make any changes?
Skinner, Thompson, Tuch
Olof, Mitts, Quinn
Krebs, Cozens, JJP
Asplund, Girgs, Okposo
extra- Hinny
Sorry Just don't like this forward line up and feel a trade needs to be made.
On defense-
Is Joker a top 4 or should he be part of a solid 3rd pair?
Is Bryson an everyday player or should he be the #7?
Who is KA going to add to be the stay at home, and also add toughness?
What they have now...
Mule, Dahlin
Power, Joker
Bryson, Fitz
definite upgrade needed for 3rd pairing.
goalies- YES UPGRADE HOWEVER YOU CAN
UPL should be the back up to a proven vet for next two years.
So me personally I would like to see a shake up of at least two forwards, two defenseman, and a true #1 goalie
If you have watched the AHL playoffs, Quinn has struggled while Krebs and Peterka have played well. Quinn will need to engage more consistently to make the Sabres next year.

Let's not undervalue the restorative value of rest and time off. Heavy loads over a long period of time wears the body down.
Let’s not forget the Leafs are the higher seed and finished as one of the top teams in the league. TB aren’t down to an inferior team. I expect them to pour it on in Game 6 and see where the chips fall in a 7th game.

It’s time for this Leafs group to breakthrough. Too much talent to be first round fodder every season. They can probably go on a nice run if they can finally get over the first round hump.

So what exactly happened to Lambert anyway?
He has not produced in the pro league and has forced his way off a couple teams. Rumours that his dad is gets too involved. He had a good start to the WJCs before they got cancelled. If he has a big WJCs in August then his stock might start to rise again. Has all the tools but hasn’t been able to put it all together.

Not Sabres focused but a really good read from a scout’s perspective.

But that's NOT what happened. Game 2 was in Carolina. Game 3 was in Moe-ray-all. He played in both. Both were after he'd been hurt by Rivet. He stopped playing ONLY after catching a stick to the eye.
I just don’t care. He told a story.

Fair enough.
Only heard the version on the podcast. And what he said in that did not state that he played in Game 3. (Though he in fact did until he got high sticked by Williams. He did not play again after the high stick.)
The story he told was that when they got to the rink Koivu was basically hiding in the trainers room. The trainer had took him to get stitched up but never told the team. Saku told Rivet that he couldn’t bend over. But he DID play that night but missed the rest of the series after that game.

No, he said "and he didn't play a couple of games after that, we lost the next 3 games after that."
He told the story a couple of times in varying degrees of detail. Once with Peters, once with Friedman, once on that podcast. Depends who you listened too.

Rivet said that Koivu played Game 3 but didn’t play the rest of the series. He had so many stitches in his back he couldn’t bend over.

I was in Rouyn-Noranda last night and watched Sabres prospect Olivier Nadeau of Shawinigan.
He needs to improve his skating to make the NHL. Pure and simple, that is what I saw. It is something that can be worked on so I won’t rule him out.
On the plus side, he is a good sized forward who knows his role. His main function is the net front presence on the PP. He stands his ground and does well screening the goalie, tipping pucks and banging at rebounds. He works well in the corners, shielding the puck and playing the cycle. He is not fast but hustled hard on the back check to break up some plays to trailers. He wears an A and looked like a leader out there.
One more year of junior hockey to get him faster will benefit him.
Cataracts won and move on to the next round.
If he was a great skater he probably would have been a first round pick. He is a project and the project is can they get his skating to NHL level. He seems to have all the other traits.

I think if they won the second draw, it'd still be 6th. Winning the second draw moves up 10 spots, or to second overall. Can't think of a way they'd move up 9 spots.
I think you are right. I was thinking about 1st and 2nd but as it is two separate draws then yeah 6th would be the spot.

Can the Vegas pick move up to 11-15. Or can it only stay where it is or move with lottery win?
A pick can only move up 10 spots. If Vegas won the lottery they would move up to 6th. If they won the second slot they could move up to 7th. They cannot be bumped back. So 6th, 7th or 16th are the options. The pick is top 10 protected. So if they move up then they keep the pick and Sabres get their 2023 pick.

Watching the Rags implode is fantastic. Their saviour has fallen apart in net and all their untouchable young players are invisible.

Friday night I went to Belleville to watch the Sens-Amerks playoff game. We could see into the Sens box. Dorian, MCGuire and about 8 other execs were in the box. The other 9 guys were gathering and talking and McGuire was sitting by himself. No one would talk to him. He must be a way bigger a**hole then we even think.
I have a feeling that Pierre convinced Melnyk to hire him and when he passed away Dorian couldn’t wait to can McGuire.-

I wonder where this leaves Lane Lambert? Will he take over with the Isles or go somewhere else as HC or follow Trotz to his next destination.

Farrance should have been that pick.
Will never understand why Botterill didn't take the local kid.
Why? Laaksonen has had the better career in the AHL so far.

Are people obsessed with Murphy?
For me, it’s more about concept than player.
I’m looking for a reliable, right-shot 2nd pairing defenceman with character and size who can PK and I can trust in the defensive zone. He should also be someone who can stick around for a few years on a contract that fits, who might actually be available at a reasonable acquisition cost.
Murphy is one of the few names I’ve seen proposed that seems to tick all those boxes.
Who fits that profile that does impress you?
It was a general statement because I have seen people on more then a couple sites that are locked in on him. I just don’t see it.
I agree with you about the concept of a physical, defensive shutdown type to round out the corps.

What is The obsession with Connor Murphy? It is right up there with the obsession over Miles Wood.
Murphy doesn’t impress me at all.

Vaisilesky has been brutal. He looks absolutely lost in net. He is going to have to find his game for Game 7. Leafs have outplayed them this series but it comes down to one game and the Leafs and Game 7s do not get along at all.
