Because teams that sense they can win it tend to spend more at the trade deadline for valuable (possible rentals) then teams over the summer who hope to keep said potential rental long term but he isn't sure he wants to stay there. Yes I do think you'd get more in a deadline deal in this situation. Florida isn't parting with anything significant if they don't think they can lock him up - can someone offer sheet Sam, etc. We'll see what the return is but if it's what's reported what other reason you got besides Adams sucks.

Pick #14 (13th player): LW/RW Isak Rosen (SHL)

He'll be 6'0 and 185 - 190 by the time he's 21 and in the NHL. Patrick Kane was also 5'10 and 162 when drafted. Relax folks. -

I'm feeling confident the return on Eichel and Sam will include several C prospects. -

NHL Fire Sale: Roster Freeze Ends, 1pm eastern, 7/22

If it's players coming back that would have to be protected. That's all I got. I'm just convinced the return on Risto is going to be a pick and a meh prospect. Making losing Borgen unnecessary. We'll just have to wait and see how this all plays out over the next few months - and it could be that regarding Eichel, Sam, and Risto. -

Yea I've slept on this and I was of the opinion yesterday that we didn't have to lose Borgen it seemed they weren't picking expiring contracts... Now I'm actually ticked off and think it was really really bad management. Sorry it's just a fact. Risto should have been unprotected. And they would have took Miller - far more preferable. Maybe Gus. I keep forgetting Miller was an expiring contract to. -
I'm just done hearing about we don't use him right. I'm doubting the return on Risto. And we know that he's been a major part of a defense that has been atrocious his entire tenure here. So yes, the "analytics" to all that you said and I'm sure the front office is thinking to has some merit. Fine. I just disagree. But again my point, Seattle wasn't going to pick Risto. We could have him and Borgen right now and would have lost Miller -imo.

I don't think by the way it looks Seattle would have taken Risto. I'd rather have exposed him. If we exposed him they take Zemgus or Miller, no? Wouldn't that have been better then losing Borgen? If Risto is only returning a 2nd round pick, sorry, I'd rather keep Borgen and risk losing Risto. Which again, looks like they wouldn't have picked him. Where am I wrong?

You mean trading (soon) Jack Eichel didn't make this obvious? I think their future in Buffalo is seriously at risk.

Jack Eichel: Trade rumors and speculation

How big a deal would it be to this team's already awful reputation if Jack wins a Cup the first year on his new team? First ROR, and then Eichel. I don't think your franchise could ever live that down until it wins a Cup. Adams cannot make a deal that doesn't bring back legit multiple pieces of high level talent and picks. -

Or where they are dealing a position that is deep - secure for some time on the big club but have potential great to elite prospects in the minors. And this team is in win now mode. And a first round draft pick or multiple absolutely should be in any deal. That criteria will have to expand the list to EC teams because the WC teams you hear mentioned are not close to a Cup and may not want to part with elite young talent at positions they are thin at because as you said you want to add to your core. If the haul is a legit haul I don't care if it's Boston or the Rangers. And I can see this deal including multiple players from our roster that may surprise people - Borgen Casey or Tage for example. Not saying we should or that I would deal those guys I could just see it happening. -

Correct! Dang I forgot that and I just Googled it. Defenseman Tyler Myers was selected by the Buffalo Sabres 12th-overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. And here's a little side story to how that selection came to be. The Los Angeles Kings had the 12th pick in the draft that year, the Sabres had the 13th. Both were looking for defensemen and the two best-rated defensemen on the board--Colten Teubert and Tyler Myers--were still there when it came to the Kings at No.12. Buffalo GM Darcy Regier proposed a trade to Kings GM Dean Lombardi as he and his scouting staff wanted Myers. Lombardi had his choice in mind as well but in order for him to sign off on the trade so the Sabres wouldn't take his guy, each GM wrote the name of the player they wanted on a napkin at the draft table. If they wrote the same name, no deal. When they turned the napkins over, Regier wrote Myers, Lombardi wrote Teubert and the deal was done. Buffalo traded their pick, No.13 overall, and a 2009 3rd-round pick to Los Angeles to move up a spot and picked Myers. https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Michael-Pachla/On-Myers-Antipin-Guhle-Lehner-and-Kane-Winnipeg-at-Buffalo-tonight/209/90202

Maybe I'm reading it wrong. That's just who I think Anaheim would draft if we traded down with them. What was the draft and players involved where Darcy and another GM had names of who they were definitely drafting if there when their pick came when discussing a swap - or did the swap happen? That was the story out of one draft with him right or am I misremembering.

Smoke. Screen. Szn. Translation: "We would like to keep him because we like our D depth....we aren't drafting Power, despite what the owner says about him - if that's who you want we are taking any and all calls for the number 1 overall, Anaheim."

Jack Eichel: Trade rumors and speculation

Yep I said this last week. They're waiting for the Finals to be over. I think a deal is actually 100% done but only 5 people or so know it. I expect it to be announced by late next week (July 15 or 16), leading us into the Expansion (July 21) and NHL draft (July 24) week.
