  1. That's not it at all. It should be simple geography.
  2. Oh do tell @Thorny what did you find so amusing about that?
  3. The other side might shift if they keep losing though. The goal posts of what is "normal" or "acceptable" or even where the center is and what is "right" of that or "left" of that keep getting shifted. Remember when the left thought Dick Cheney was the ultimate evil? Now he's a moderate. It's shifted into other countries now too whether we like it or not. Our new opposition conservative guy is stealing all his playbook pages from Trump and the republicans. Decorum in parliament is going right down the dumper. probably getting too political here, but then again we are geezers, and geezers like to gripe.
  4. Quenneville and Berube talk coming out of Leaf land. Also might be the end of Shanahan. I don't think so. Closest thing would be during the French Connection years Montreal-Sabres became a pretty real thing for a few years but not to the extent of say the Bruins-Habs or the Habs-Nordiques. imo Toronto should be the rival and maybe it can be if we ever get good again.
  5. The idea of trading Power is insane. Yes, he needs some serious coaching and he needs a big time muscle building program but he still has a huge amount of potential. He's just a kid. Now the prospects who aren't in the NHL right now? I'm fine with trading any of them and any future picks for immediate roster help now. Players I would definitely not trade: Benson, Peterka, Power, UPL, Levi, Tuch. Players I would only trade if the offer was so exceptional I had to consider it: Dahlin, Thompson, Cozens, Quinn. Unless I forgot someone pretty much anybody else is fair game for the right deal.
  6. You can't be sure of that. He'd just won the cup but his value wasn't as noticed at that point. Sure, he signed with Tampa as a contender then but he might have signed for more money somewhere else at that time. He's on his last legs now, but back then it would have helped the Sabres a lot.
  7. I remember you were one of them. You're always VERY opinionated come draft time and free agent ideas time. Easy to remember that. Don't remember who you wanted instead though. Just remembered you laughing at my idea. If you're going to use some stat like the above as a counter argument you really haven't watched the series or seen what he's contributed. Also, check out some of the Behind The B clips and see what he brought to the locker room and the culture. This was a bigger part of it than on ice and is exactly what the Sabres desperately need. Bruins do more with less. Sabres do less with more. The missing elements are obvious.
  8. Thanks for letting me know but I don't like AHL hockey enough to pay for it 🙂
  9. Puppy. Come back when one or more of your body parts hurts for no reason in the morning.
  10. As far as I know there's no way to watch the whole game out here. Is there a way? I'd watch Rochester playoffs if I could.
  11. It's a legacy that isn't vanquished until it's vanquished. I still remember when St. Louis won the cup, Pat Maroon was a free agent and I said here the Sabres should sign him. I got laughed at, scoffed at, called a grandpa and a dinosaur, and was told by various geniuses that Maroon was over the hill and had nothing to offer. But carry on.
  12. Berube to Winnipeg? He'd be a fit. Travis Green is mindboggling to me. Glad we didn't.
  13. Probably. and they are supposed to lose to Florida too but with Swayman playing the way he is absolutely anything is possible. My theory? Florida has too many ex-Sabres on the roster and the B gives them nightmares 🙂
  14. Which part was complete BS? Or do you just want it to be BS? As far as academics go, they do the research. It's their job to analyze and critique. We are supposed to learn from the work they do rather than just dismissing them as academics who we don't want to listen to. He has the data to back up the claims. If only our politicians (and the media) would actually present facts and figures to us instead of lies and rhetoric. Imagine that? Society might actually evolve.
  15. There was nothing going on in Vancouver from what I saw so imo that series should have started first but it didn't matter. Probably helped the Bruins who were more intense while Florida was a tad rusty and not ready for the pace.
  16. All the Crunch goals looked like carbon copies of the errors I see the Sabres D making often. It is not hard to see.
  17. I find it strange that Canucks and Oilers, who both ended their series before the weekend don't start until Wednesday but Bruins have to play in Florida on Monday. I don't think it really matters as Florida will win that regardless but it seems a little unfair.
  18. Good comeback but Rochester D is abysmal, and play very similar to the Sabres. Same type of errors.
  19. For all the Geezers (myself included) here's a little hard truth to ruin your day.
  20. The thing for me is it was 2 years in a row. They got their cup and then the audacity to do it again and so blatantly just made me hate them a lot. I'm over the Eichel hate. If he hadn't won a cup I'd want him never to win one but he already did so like ROR it's over. For me anyway.
  21. Different Dallas team. let it go 🙂
  22. Gotta love the Vegas cheaters going down to defeat. Mark Stone with the shortest season in NHL history 🙂 Dallas is pretty good. If the goaltending holds up Pavelski might get that cup.
  23. They do and it's definitely a problem for the Leafs but I'd say it's quite possible Marner would be fine to leave. He's the main whipping boy right now and only has one more year on his deal. He might be willing to waive the NMC for some teams, especially if those teams are ready to give him a big extension. Hard to say what the Leafs end up doing but I'm enjoying the media reactions that's for sure. After all the Toronto Toronto Toronto stuff you get all year from Canadian media this part of their season is always enjoyable.
  24. Ultimately there's optimism vs. pessimism and so forth and in sports you can look forward or backward and there's always next season and so it goes. I will admit to having a more pessimistic view. I've bought in a couple times thinking it would turn but they always find a way to disappoint. So I'm a cynic, absolutely. I have optimism over Ruff being hired. At the same time I kind of feel like it's now or never. If he can't get it done what then? Restart again? No answer there aside from Pegula selling it. I'd be more optimistic if Rochester was a dominant team and we had a number of guys there who looked like they can play good NHL hockey. We have a couple, but overall considering how many picks we've made they disappoint me. There's no muckers and grinders there we can realistically call up next year to round out our roster either. KA is going to have to find those guys somewhere. Cause ya, in the end you're right, missing the playoffs is all that really matters.
  25. I know and I don't disagree. I've heard many an ex player on podcasts and interviews etc. say it's harder to win the cup in the AHL and it's a hard league to play in and that's how it should be. But we know this. It is reality, and it's a training ground for what can and will come, so the make up of your AHL team should be designed for that. You should have your own tough guys and thugs to surround your talented kids and teach them how teams stand up for each other and every role matters and so forth. It's where culture building needs to start.
