Official Sabres Expansion Protection List
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Well it kind of does matter cause they had him for several years and tried him in various roles and he was an underachieving inbetweener and that's why he fell out of their line up. Fast skater, works hard enough, but not a particularly good checker and not a scorer either. No finish. We shall see if Granato can get something out of him that the Bruins couldn't, but I don't share your optimism. Bruins had some pretty good coaches. Is anyone actually excited about Tage? -

Well this NHL mock draft has them taking Tokarski from us so that's almost nothing. https://www.nhl.com/news/mock-2021-expansion-draft-seattle-kraken/c-325685052?tid=289242400 -
Who will have a better record this season: Sabres or Kraken?
PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
There is some serious talent available for the Kraken, but also some very big pay cheques so not sure how they will decide to navigate that. -
So far 100% Dahlin and it did seem the obvious answer to me. Cozens was actually the guy who took a step backwards under Granato. The view is optimistically that he wore down as an overplayed rookie not used to it, but it is also possible he preferred the tighter style of Kreuger hockey. We shall see this season,

Official Sabres Expansion Protection List

How is Bjork a player that is always attacking any more than anyone else was under Granato? And what does that mean? Not playing defense at all? He certainly wasn't an "always attacking" player in Beantown. -

Empty gesture which means absolutely nothing. They already talked contract end of the season, they tried to sign him then, he decided to test free agency. Protecting him here isn't going to warm his heart and convince him to stay. If you wanted that ben Bishop trade you do that before this protection list, you make the deal and you protect him. Personally I'm not up on Bishop's status. Doesn't he have injury issues? Regardless, a draft picks for a goalie deal should have come before, not after, the expansion lists. We had an open spot. It's a fail. -
Victor Olofsson number change (confirmed by team)

1971 was the year we drafted Rick Martin so yes, it was. I'm sure that's it 🙂 -
Official Sabres Expansion Protection List

Well I personally think protecting Ullmark rather than trading for a goalie and protecting him is one more check in the fail column for KA. So far still waiting for some checks in the pass or good column. Pointless. I think Miller gets taken ahead of Borgen but maybe there's a Kyle deal in the works. Certainly hope they don't give up too much of a sweetener for that. -
Don't you think we've done enough pre-rewarding with big contracts? What about Dahlin's game has convinced you that he deserves this kind of money and is a definite can't miss? imo if there was ever a candidate for a bridge deal he is it. I wanted to draft him, I will admit that, and he has talent, but so far I am disappointed with what I expected. Fortunately, it's still early, but I'm having doubts.

Ellis to Philly is huge. Didn't give up anything important to them either. Gonna guess they have zero interest in Risto now. If I'm Seattle I take Price. They can afford it and it gives them the same sort of situation Vegas had (has) with Fleury. We might get Shane Wright yet.
-
and it's unravelling.........

Don't think there's any actual definitive statements, cause that would confirm that there has been actual trade negotiation, but it has been rumoured and talked about by insiders (don't remember which one(s) of the Dreger LeBrun MacKenzie types). I mean i don't even think there's any official statements about trying to trade Eichel at all.
-
Dahlin hasn't earned anything close to that. Heiskenan showed his value in that long playoff run in the bubble. It's a big contract, but not way out there for where he's at and his value to them.

Expansion Draft -- Wed. July 21, 2021 (Release the Kraken)
PerreaultForever replied to Hoss's topic in The Aud Club
idk. With an open goalie slot I'd give up that 3rd if his price point was in the range we wanted. We need 2 goalies, not just 1. A 3rd is no big deal. Florida however, might not want this to happen. They might prefer the Kraken take him so they don't lose somebody else rather than getting a pick. -
So this isn't a Kurt Cobain thread then?
-
That is the case. Rangers have stated that Lafreniere would not be part of any Eichel deal. A NY deal would likely be veterans and draft picks. They like their young core, and why wouldn't they? Like LA, they're a team with big potential and a solid group of youngsters. Big markets however so impatience might push them towards an Eichel addition, but again, not at the expense of the youngsters.

Jeff Skinner Agrees to waive His NMC for Expansion Draft
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Danault would be a good addition and maybe in our case it's worth it but as I understand it he wants a lot, more than what typical low scoring shut down centers usually get. Not sure that's the best plan. If we're overpaying checkers and character guys I'd rather throw some money at Czikis. -
Jeff Skinner Agrees to waive His NMC for Expansion Draft
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I was really surprised to read in the Sullivan piece that Skinner holds the current record for number of NHL games played without making the playoffs (773). I had assumed he'd been in there with Carolina but thinking about it, ya, I guess that was before they got good. Risto (542) Reinhart (454) and even Eichel (375) what a sad state of affairs when you stop to think about it (which I try not to). -
So then in essence we're protecting him for someone else and then asking for a good young D man back to replace Borgen.
-
Girardi seemed to be good for the D. Definitely an upgrade from Smith, but that was a low bar. Still not sure what Ellis does. No shocks here. They didn't change Granato, why would they change his assistants.
-
Colorado is apparently interested in Kuemper so they might be planning to move on from Grubauer. So maybe that's a goalie we could get.
-
I don't think those are the pieces Calgary wants to get rid of. There's some talk of them possibly moving Giordano and there's always talk about Gaudreau. If Sutter is in charge of their direction, I see them looking for work ethic players and not "stars". Eichel to Calgary would surprise me that's for sure.
-
I personally don't believe we should be buyers if on the cusp. I'd still sell even if we were close. You go with the kids. We make it great, we don't we move on. Otherwise I get your point about salary, but he'd be desirable at trade time if I was running a true contender.
-
Likely true, but I still think his best trade value will be before the playoff deadline.
-
We've seen snippets of that when he's on his game, like for example how he got under Ovi's skin. He throws his weight around and he can really mess with the opposition, but he needs a lesser role and a solid partner. Borgen is being over rated because of his fresh shiny newness.
