KA went out of his way to praise Bales at year end presser. Think this is a mistake. Our Special Teams and Defense needs new coaching. Granato needs to hand off goalie pull decisions to someone else, he himself doesn’t get it at all. So many games lost because a goalie who was clearly out of it wasn’t pulled early enough. Top 4 UFA D is the only thing that really matters this off season. Now is the time to pick up a vet, there is nobody in the system he is blocking. I hope we don’t re sign Okposo or Girgensons. Trade Oloffson if you aren’t going to use him.

Analytics say nothing about systems and coaching. Stillman was misused by bad coaching. He is perfectly serviceable and a big part of their late season turnaround. Nobody said he was top4 and it’s quite clear that’s the top of KAs list this off season. There is no ‘just be patient and wait’ on defense like there was in goal that justified his inaction.

Josh was lost without Beasley. We got a big Beasley. Guy will be slot more often than not, the TE name is just a label

I think the guy who traded Eichel and turned the franchise around is going to be okay.

He is poised to take on a third line role. Would be weird to see him ditch that opportunity.

It’s fair to discuss the rookies but we have an entire year before any decisions have to be made at all with them. What is clear is that we don’t have room to sign a long term UFA to high dollar without kicking out one of the rookies we have.

Then you call the Greenway-Cozens-Thompson line the top line and the Skinner-Mittelstadt-Tuch line the second line.

There are players you want for 1-2 years you wouldn’t want for 3+. ROR, Hanifin, etc are those types of guys. It’s a personality thing

False equivalency. Comrie is an NHL caliber backup. Bryson is not an NHL quality defenseman.

I look on capfriendly and there’s a dozen UFA defenseman who we could sign as a 2nd pair at worst. If he doesn’t sign one of those guys it’s a failed off season.

UPL is trade bait for a younger bottom pairing defenseman who isn’t awful. Or a younger 4th liner who isn’t awful. Both needs we have. Comrie will be fine as a back up. Problem then is what happens when there’s an injury to Comrie that is inevitable? We’re gonna draft more goalies it seems. Dude made like two bad defensive plays his time here. Bryson makes that many per shift. Go get the top UFA on the market KA- he only needs to end up being a solid 4D cause the top 3D are locked in for a decade. Don’t hold back. Stillman I think beats out Jokiharju as the 6D, who is the one we need to push out to 7D.

He came in with high expectations because of the trade. Can’t hold that against him. Hard to judge someone playing with Okposo and Girgensons. That trio regressed defensively quite a bit from the Larrson days, but they scored a little more. Still a net negative. He isn’t a great center right now but he may improve with a little more time. Not physical enough to play physical, not fast enough to keep up, and his hands are still too hot to be a skill guy. He gets a little more strength and maturity and he will be useful. No hurry or motivation to move him, he can come back and repeat and be fine.

Coaches get a C+ They didn’t fail like Krueger, but they definitely made a bunch of terrible decisions in the first 2/3 of the season that cost us the playoffs. They get props for making a bunch of send offs have great turnarounds. Jost, Greenway, Stillman all we’re far better than they were on their former teams. The PK is atrocious, the PP is atrocious and only propped up by Thompson’s killer shot. Our defensive zone awareness needs work, improvements were seen, but against some teams they are still utterly lost out there. It will be a disappointment to not upgrade assistant coaches this off season. KA gets a B. The goalie situation this season cost us the playoffs, but not letting anyone get in the way of Levi was the ultimate goal and all we needed there was this season. The waiver pickups all had turnarounds. He kept Terry at bay and held strong to the plan- this deserves credit. He knows he needs a defenseman and was in on this seasons blue chip down to the wire. Next season playoffs is the expectation and not making it is a failing grade Cozens is a stud. Quinn is progressing well. Peterka is improving. Krebs had a tumultuous season. He looked great in March when everyone else sucked and then looked phased in April when the rest of the team turned around. Progression from his pretty bad early season. Interesting to see where he ends up with different linemates next year. Skinner/Tuch are both prone to getting hot and cold, but they are big parts of this teams turnaround. Love it. Power had a slow start as expected from a young rookie but was forced to step up and has. He still has a lot of improvement left in him too. He needs to work on his shot, it’s holding him back. Mittelstadt had enormous growth this season. He needs to be paired with talent and now he can keep up. Honestly I like him as a 1C with Skinner/Tuch. We need to spread Thompson out to other lines to be a dynamic team anyway. Lyubushkin was in over his head, slow start, but ended strong. UPl/Comrie big disappointments. Doesn’t matter, got Levi KO has ‘it’, but he is slow. Girgensons is pretty toast. Not interested in them returning. If this team runs it back and adds rookies it’ll make the playoffs. If they sign a stud defenseman they will compete. It’s going to cost, but now is that time. Hope everyone has time to heal up. Dahlin, Thompson, Samuelsson, Cozens, etc all were noticeably playing injured at the end of season.

Marty Biron says he sees Levi being the next rookie to get 30 wins Ill trust Biron over any of y’all when it comes to goalies. He IS the starter. Only squabbling over the backup is worth discussing. And with two goalies on contract and no cap problems, having both of them duke it out if one isn’t traded away is a pretty simple decision.

Hockey is better with less than 5 players. There I said it.
