Byram stops a play by being physical. NYR score is Power is in that position.

Fielding a healthy team

I believe he could be at least solid. His AHL number are very good. The real question is will they give him a chance to start? His AHL numbers are certainly better than UPL's ever were with a 2.63 & a 9.22 last season.

Sabres to place Alexandar Georgiev on waivers today
GASabresIUFAN replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I'm as cynical as anyone, but I have zero issue with signing Georgiev or claiming Ellis. Admittedly Adams put us in the situation where any breathing goalie was worth a try, but at least Georgiev has played good hockey in the NHL at times and Ellis has very good AHL numbers, but was stuck behind Binnington. It would have been nice if Georgiev worked out, but so be it. Good luck in Rochester or with your new team -
Right now we have 4 players on IR - Greenway, Power, Kesselring and UPL Who goes when they come back? Our extra players are 2 goalies (Ellis and Georgiev), 2 forwards (Geeraten & Kozak) and arguably 1 D if we keep only 7 D in Buffalo (Bryson or Johnson) If I were making the decisions: Greenway in for Kozak Kesselring in for Georgiev Power in for Bryson UPL in for Ellis

Worse shape. Ullmark was here when KA arrived. As to who I would have acquired; hard to know who even was available and admittedly the goaltender market was thin this offseason, but this band-aid goaltending has been the status quo since Ullmark left. Surely there was some opportunity over the last 5 years to find a decent starting goalie?
-
That’s my point. Why are UPL, Lyon, Georgiev and now Ellis the best options in net. Basically the goaltending is so bad, I’m not sure this team has a chance.
-
What is the vision for the roster? I get the injuries to Power and Kesselring jumbled the D group, but Lyon, Georgiev and Ellis in net? I understand the pick up of Ellis. His AHL numbers are very good and he wasn’t displacing Binnington but why keep Georgiev? What does Geersten bring? He hasn’t played in the NHL is 3-4 years. I like Kozak, but where does he fit?

This roster is a joke. 14 forwards? 3 bad goalies. Only 6 D highlighted by Bryson and Johnson.

https://www.nhl.com/stats/teams?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20242025&seasonTo=20242025&gameType=2&sort=goalsFor&page=0&pageSize=50 This report on the team stats page on NHL.com has Montreal at 243 goals and the Sabres at 265. The Standings page https://www.nhl.com/sabres/standings/2025-04-17/division has Montreal at 245 and Buffalo at 265 Not sure where the 2 goals went. Those reports also have a 4 goal discrepancy between goals against for Montreal. The team stats page shows 261 against, while the standings page shows 265. Not sure the reason for that difference either.

It would be great if his shoulder is fully healed and he plays a full season. Sadly, we have no idea if the shoulder is sound. Only time will tell. Until he proves healthy, he’ll remain a question mark.
-
Why? He has never played a full season in 5 NHL only seasons. The most he has ever played was 66 games. His other seasons are 56, 8, 50 & 56. If his chronic shoulder issue keeps him from playing 3/8 of every season, he should be treated like Greenway and Samuelsson. I don’t care what the injuries are, I care about player availability. Samuelsson has played 40 to 60 games in his brief career. Greenway only played 34 last year, but has typically played 56 to 67 games on his career (played 81 as a rookie). Norris’ resume looks similar to Samuelsson and Greenway.

My first thought when he got buried by Clifton was that he was going to have a concussion and be gone for a month or two. His play has been good, now can he just stay healthy.

Scoring. They only scored 243 last season and had a -18 differential. They scored 22 less goals than the Sabres.

Please show the folks here Power's defense analytics.

No goaltending, no playoffs.

AI Rick with robot players. Can't wait.

He is the target because he is a former top over all pick, carries a big contract and hasn't improved at all in 3 years in the NHL. In many ways he is a worse player today than as a rookie. The Athletic gave him a negative -3.5 mill contract deficit last season. That basically means we are paying 8.35 for a 4.85 player. Analytics aside, his game doesn't pass the eye test and Byram is a similar but better player for less money making Power a luxury we don't need to keep. Could Power change the narrative this season? Sure he could, but if we go through another season where he is inept defensively, these calls to move on are going to get louder and more frequent.
