  1. Kunitz has a face just made for punching.

I thought the exact same thing seeing him go off to the box lol.

Well certainly not the dominating performance most expected; Canada goes on to a 3-1. I thought Crosby was brutal out there in the few times I did notice him. On the other hand, Nash really impressed me this game. He played much better than I've seen him play on the Rags. On to the next game against Austria tomorrow!

  2. Well 2-0 Canunks after 2. I saw most of the first and a bit of the second and although the game was sloppy, there was no doubt who the better team was (and should be mind you). If we end up winning 3-0 or 4-0 I just hope they stay confident. You don't have to blow out eveyone early, especially the way the tourney is set up with everyone making it out of the first round.

  3. I don't think you want Girgensons or Larsson playing first line wingers and neither Reinhart or McDavid have the size of Dal Colle or Ritchie.

Don't get me wrong, I want one of the Sams with the top pick and IM tank Nation strong for McDavid (or Eichel as a secondary prize). Just thinking that with the Islanders pick we should lean toward a big scoring winger - maybe Draisitl fits that bill?

Get your top end guys down the middle first and then move a couple to the wing if need be. Historically the great teams in the league are deep down the middle.

  4. Sam's going to force the Oilers to pick him when they win the lottery.

That's what's crossing my mind too.

Draisaitl was playing against his peers but the rest of the German team wasn't. He was the best player on an outmatched German team and still put up 6 points in 6 games. It's tough to criticize a guy for that. What would he have done if he'd been on Team USA?

His stock is probably falling but I really don't think it should be. If he's the guy we end up drafting, he's still our best draft prospect since Vanek.

Oh I don't think he's going to be a poor prospect but I was more answering the question why I wouldn't take Draisitl first. If it's Sam and him, I take Reinhart all day long. If we end up picking 4th or 5th (whether it's ours or the Isles pick) I'd be happy to take the German.

  5. Me thinks you should look up the WJC and also how Draisaitl has played since and then say NO we shouldn't.

Reinhart is the smartest player in the draft. He is very skilled at puck distrubution and playing a solid 2-way game. He is a Center and also is scoring at a torrid pace. Why anyone else other Reinhart is the question I pose to you.

Yep. Draisaitl was not very good when up against his peers in one of the best competitions in the world. Reinhart on the other hand was one of Canada's best players in the tourney IMO. Since then, Sam has done nothing but completely rip up the WHL. If Reinhart is on the board when the Sabres pick, it has to be him taken.

Crazier things have happened. I just want people to understand that the Islanders are not going to defer so that they can give us the no.1 pick next season. If they defer, it's because they're going to do everything they can to get better next season.

They're moving to Brooklyn and are willing to spend money. Watching them this year, they aren't *that* far off from being decent. And there's no guarantee it's Snow in charge again.

Yes they're moving to Brooklyn but I'm still not convinced wang will open the cheque book.

If we came away with Reinhart and Bennett or Dal Colle I think we'd all be ecstatic. That said, count me in the group that thinks if the Isles pick top-5,they keep the pick this year. I'm also totally okay with that, as I'll gladly take even an extra 5% chance at McDavid/Eichel.

Even if it's top 5 I'd prefer the isles defer, with them losing vanek and having a tough time attracting free agents I doubt they will be much better next year. If they end up in the bottom five this year it's a win win in my eyes.

  8. At this moment I don't think there is any way we pass on Reinhart if he's there. Still a small amount of time for that to change but it's highly doubtful. These things don't change this late in the process.

Yep I'd be surprised if we dont as well. As for the isle pick I hope they move vanek and keep free falling. Two top 5 picks would be amazing.

  9. They have no way of doing that. The lottery is run by a separate company completely. Same as the NBA. That way the conspiracies can go away. If they finish last they're guaranteed one of McDavid/Eichel. And getting McDavid to Buffalo would benefit the NHL with all of this reaching good smaller markets.

Just slightly off gdt topic here but I listened to an interesting interview on NHL Radio the other day. I don't even know who they interviewed as I got in half way through it but it was obviously a scout (just not sure who his employer is) and he said although Eichel is going to be great, there is an American defenseman that is suppose to be projected to be better than Seth Jones in the next draft. He thinks he's the better prospect than Eichel. Now with our need for forwards I'm taking a forward next draft regardless. I just think that if we can get even a top 5 pick next year we're going to get a stud. If we end up with McDavid then look out.

Although I agree with what Potato is saying next year looks like a draft you may not see for the next decade plus. By maybe giving some top prospects more time in junior or not signing a quick fix veteran does not mean he's not doing his job and should not be paid. This team has been mediocre for far too long. Finish the tank this year and tank hard next. After those drafts (coupled with some good prospects already in our system) and we are set up for the next 10 years.

  10. As I've become more and more used to disappointment with these types of "events" I don't expect much to go down. I could definitely see Sam Gagner going to LA as those talks have been loud today, but other than that I don't see any reason for teams not to wait.

Ya I'm in this boat. Maybe it's that I've been so disappointed in the past. I don't get my hopes too high now but would love to see one piece moved in the next 24 hours. I don't want to leave all of our untraded players to the deadline and then try and make three big moves that day.

  11. If their are worried about the risk of injury, he should have been moved at the first offer being brought up to them. You can't wrap him up in bubble wrap and hope he doesn't get injured while waiting for someone to make a deal for him.

If anything, sitting him til someone makes you an offer for him isn't going to help his trade value at all and will probably have the opposite effect and lower the offers you will get for him.

That's what I'm thinking as well.

  12. Probably, but he shouldn't. How does that help us if we're trying to trade him tomorrow?

Just give Enroth the start and play it safe. Of course, the Sabres generally do stupid things so.....

I'm thinking that letting up less than a 5 spot may not help his trade value. He let up a bunch against Colorado recently and now 5 to Pitt. Those are good teams but if he can pull out a 1 goal against that may help any trade potential. Of course you are right in there is the risk of injury.

  13. Tankstebb has been here for a couple of years and has over 2k posts. If there is a good ole boys club, he's in it. This just has to do with him being a blockhead and catching the wrath of Angry Eleven. That's all. We're all blockheads at times. If you can survive the wrath and not go run and hide, you're in the club.

You need five years service for that.
