So is Lieuwen called up or seriously injured?

I know. The T.O. trajectory is mighy scary right now. I don't want them to have a shot at McDavid but its looking like they will.

Haven't we taken enough high (1st/2nd round) draft picks from the Wild already :P

It was nice seeing Strome play at over a point per game pace for a long sample size without McDavid in the lineup.

Or we can trade him and not bring him back. Enroth has had a very nice year all things considered but do we really feel he is the long term answer? Especially considering Murray's desire for a tall goaltender? He's clearly our best option now but if we trade him it doesn't mean there won't be options in the summer. As we know, Cap Geek is down so it's tougher getting an up to date UFA list but based on an article in October, here are a few goalies who have just as much potential as Enroth in my position who will be hitting the market: Viktor Fasth (don't judge him playing in front of that horrendous Oil D), Josh Harding (severe questions about his health so he may not be an option but was great when he played last year), Kari Ramo (I know is having a little bit of a down year) and Antti Neimi (I don't believe he's resigned as of yet). Not to mention any potential trade opportunities we have with our deep prospect pool. I don't think Enroth has shown enough yet to be a proven number 1 so there may not be a ton of suitors. At the same time if a deal is there I hope they take it.

If Marner continues to score at this clip the rest of the way I don't know how he won't end up being the 3rd overall selection unless Hannifan really steps it up. I'm sure the vast majority of us would prefer a forward with our first pick so I don't love Craig Button's rankings. After McEichel, Marner and Strome there are a whole pile of Dmen. At this point it looks like we will be picking in the top 4 but you never know.
-
At this point I'd go Marner as well but there is much hockey yet to be played.

I'm not sure 6'4 is average size in the NHL. I also think the key is he actually uses his size. When Myers came out I remember us being so happy that the Sabres finally had someone with size but it was said multiple times one of his knocks is he doesn't play overly physical for that size. I'm sure Crouse won't be as bullish his rookie year as he is in juniors but I think some guys either have the ability/instinct to play physical or they don't. He has it and looks like a guy that would be a huge asset come playoff time. Not to mention his speed which I think is incredible for his size. Once again, please don't anyone confuse this with me wanting him with a top 5 pick.

Fair enough, I just thought the Deslaruiers comparison was a little far. It will be an interesting few months for these draft eligible players. Especially looking forward to seeing what some of these guys can do in the playoffs.
-
It's being discussed in the Draft thread. Most won't be happy (me included) if Crouse goes 3rd overall.

Deslauriers with a better shot? Wow.

I agree that top 5 might be a touch lofty but I could easily see him in that 6-8 range. Sabres fans have been clamoring for a big guy who actually uses his size for the longest time. It's not like the guy can't score, he's put up some good numbers in the past (Ivan Halinka tourney jumps to mind). He's almost Zadorov's size with his ability/drive to hit and a higher ceiling but on the forward end of the ice. Mix that with his Girgs work ethic and he's a great power forward prospect. Below is a good write up on him. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/juniors/frontenacs-lawson-crouse-turning-heads/

That's the highest I've seen Crouse and especially Rantanen. Well if you say he's over rated. Don't worry about how he looked great at the WJC or how many scouts who get paid to do this for a living feel he's firmly in the top 10. The point is he isn't 6'1 and plays to his size which makes him so unique.

Hey! This thread is a safe haven for shart supporters. You take your flawed logic elsewhere!

Soo loading up after big Generals trades last week and OHL trade deadline looming. Interested to see how Baily does with more talent around him.

The Oilers weren't tanking but McDavid is lauded as the next Crosby plus. He won't get traded. The only slightest chance that #1 overall gets traded is to the team who owns the #2 pick and even then it is very unlikely. As was said before, can you envision Buffalo trading the pick if we have it? Sure we haven't been as bad as the Oilers over the past five years but we've been far from adequate over that same period. Atleast the future is brighter here.

I love Reinhart. But I would trade pick 4, Myers and Reinhart to Edmonton for 1st overall in a heartbeat.
-
Sam is over a year older than Connor which makes a huge difference at this age. Also remember that McDavid was coming off of a long term injury which takes time to get up to speed (and as a result looked better as the tourney progressed). Having said that Reinhart was a top 2 or 3 player in the entire tournament and looked fantastic. We need him to add some strength and hopefully work on his skating a bit but man he can think is way through a game and come up big in the clutch.
