  1. That was the problem with Blair Witch. It had to sell itself as real to increase the fear factor. Once it was known as fiction, it really lost it's luster.

Never watched that movie, and it's definitely not high on my "Things to do" list.

I don't even think my wife would put that on the "Honeydew" list.

  2. "60 Minutes."

CBS' insistence on wedging this show into their Sunday night post-NFL TV schedule constantly screws up the rest of the primetime lineup. For the last two years I have set my DVR to record series that air on Sunday night after NFL football ended - Family Guy on Fox, and on CBS it was Shark (last year) and The Unit (moved to Sunday Nights this year.)

Over the last two years, every time CBS has two games and still shows 60 Minutes, the CBS DVR recording gets screwed up. Every damn time.

In that same two-year span, when Fox has two games? No problems. Once in two years has a recording of Family Guy been screwed up, and I think that was due to an overtime game.

Now I have to set my Sunday night CBS DVR recordings to run an extra 45 minutes to an hour to make sure I catch what I want. I forgot about it this week, and had to watch most of The Unit on CBS' InnerTube site.

I got my mind back when I quit watching that show (and noticed that Andy Rooney lost his a long time ago).

As Michael Savage would say, "No humongous amount of Omega-3 fatty acids can save this guy's mind."

  3. Ok, this is a follow-up to the class reunion drama that I started on last week:

Here's what I sent to the coordinator of the class reunion:

C.A. told me that you scheduled the class reunion for two days after Thanksgiving. Why wasn't this done for a summer date?

    Her response:

    Well J,

VERY FEW people came forward to help with the reunion. So I did the best I could with what I had.

This is the 3rd reunion I've planned and the only people who complain are those who don't help plan and don't show up.

I started 18 months ago posting on classmates and alumni web sites for help and got little support with the exception of Cortney. She lives 7 hours from Arcade and I live 2 hours from Arcade and it made it very difficult to plan.

If you refer to several class reunion planners they actually recommend the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Many (but certainly not myself) people "go home" that weekend AND traditionally on that Saturday few weddings are booked. Many restaurants are booked a minimum of one year in advance!

I do not feel that I need to explain my own personal hardships that made it impossible for me to plan a summer reunion without someone else stepping forward to take it over completely.

    This discussion has ended.

My response for what will probably be the coup de grace:

Ok. Have fun. Doesn't look like you've changed one bit.

I admit that I went over the top in my response; but considering whom I remembered and her attitude during our Senior Year, it doesn't look like she's changed at all.

In all honesty, I hadn't planned on going. However, when I was alerted that it was coming up, I thought about changing my mind. Then, when I found out that they were holding it two days after Thanksgiving (and I've already made arrangements to be home in Virginia for that weekend), that sealed the deal right then and there. Furthermore, I have come to expect that this is the way that they are going to do things until everyone's six feet under.

  4. The mayor of Buffalo has almost as much executive experience as the governor of Alaska. I think the state legislature meets at the Denny's in Juneau. And give me a break about the Russia thing. It's not like there are boats lined up at the border with guys in furry hats and AK47's waiting to invade.

The republicans don't care about me, I don't make enough money. And I've had enough of Tinkle On Economics...sorry...Trickle Down Economics. It didn't work under Reagan...It Didn't work under Bush and we're all paying for it now(and in the years to come)

Only hockey posts from me from now on...

I'm too poor to vote Democrat...

  5. I want to complain that I am Debate Drunk. This was the best debate ever. Never have I been happier to witness such silliness. Joe Biden is a master bullshitter and Palin thinks that running Alaska givers her experience on everything. #%^$#! son, I don't have any more booze.

Can I complain that it is ridiculous that this presidential election may come down to the public's opinion on the VP candidates?

Let me ask you this: how much executive experience do Barack Obama and Joe Biden have combined? It's one thing to have a Senate seat, but it's quite another to be not only the governor of a state but also the Commander of the Alaska National Guard - which, BTW, sits just 50 miles due east of Russia.

To get back on topic on your post, consider this hypothetical situation. What kind of a president will you have if either Obama or McCain die in office? [Refrain from cynicism and sarcasm, please.]

Another thing: Can you name one piece of legislation that Obama has written during his entire political career? FYI, it's not a trick question.

Also, here's an article worth reading.

  6. Okay...I wasn't going to go here but since you brought up the right and the left thing, here I go. I always hear my Righty friends pissin and moanin about wellfare and other, what they like to call, "Entitlement" programs that "takes money out of our pockets and gives it to a bunch of people that don't deserve it." Then these same Rightys back a guy who wants to give out 700 BILLION dollars in a Bailout, to a bunch of thieves in suits. They don't care if the government steals our money from us, just as long as it goes to rich people and not poor.

Funny how at the end of another Bush presidency there is another banking crisis(remember the Savings and Loan crisis in the 80's)

IIRC, Ron Paul was opposed to any bailout whatsoever. Now that is a true conservative right there!

  7. I haven't figured that out yet either. I'm adding that to my complaint list.

Why aren't there buttons, just like the emoticons, the put the correct code in the dialog box for you. You just hit the Open Youtube button, past the video code, the press the Close Youtube button. It could be in a pulldown menu just like the smiley faces. That's a pretty good idea, I think.

Sometimes I wish they had smiley faces on YT like they do here on SS. The only problem with that comes with the petty, sophomoric jabs that the trolls put on there because they have nothing better to post on YT (let alone how to properly use their time).

  8. Posters who don't log on for a whole day and then feel they have to respond to every other post with a separate post.

    :nana:

    Ha-ha-haaah :chris:

I do work for a living, and that's why I couldn't get on earlier.

Having said that, I don't know how do to multiple quotes within a post like some of these other guys do, so I make the most of it.

  9. Ok, since I've commented on a few responses to this thread, I actually have a legitimate complaint.

I get this message on Facebook that my 20th year class reunion is coming up. I'm given all the keywords to type in to access all the information so I can provide an RSVP for this event. Come to find out that they're holding this event two days after Thanksgiving and I'm going to be in Virginia for that holiday. The head of the planning committee told me that she would have wanted it during the summer, but that one of her "assistants" scheduled it for the time I just mentioned. Obviously, there are those who are going to be in WNY for Thanksgiving who will be able to make this event. Meanwhile, those of us who might have given it some thought to go to this but can't because of the FUBAR planning have got to be grinding our teeth right now over this.

As an aside, I did not like this "assistant" in my final year of high school with her. With this screw-up, my opinion of her hasn't changed.

Granted, I wasn't really serious about going. The fact that the HLIC gave me any sort of consideration to invite me was thoughtful in and of itself. Had the date been a little different, I might have changed my mind. Now I can honestly say that there will be some who will miss my presence sincerely, while there are others who will miss me because they might bring their guns.

  10. I second the following complaints.

Just getting over mine. It sucks. I once had a friend tell me "you can tell someone is from Buffalo, because they always have the sniffles".

More than you could ever know.

Consider the source: Keith "I hate every living, breathing conservative" Olbermann.

No wonder MSNBC's ratings are tanking!

  11. :w00t: Ya know in a impulsive moment of complaining and food affection I show a weakness and I get my coconuts crushed... Nice

I'll just go now and schedule that gender switch operation... ... :bag:

One thing I've noticed about inky: he's very observant, and his one liners will hit every one of us like a freight train.

  12. Whoa, I hope things work out for ya.

I've always hated the "we wanted you, but the other person has more experience" line. In today's society, connections are a HUGE help.

Admittedly, that is a major weakness on my part. I've always been my own sort of cat. Aside from this place, I'm extremely introverted and camera shy. My inability to make connections with others may prove to be a major downfall if and when the time comes.

  13. I have been waiting a while to have a chance at one of these, Its not really a complaint as it might be more of a rant, but whatever..............

Just to make Labatt happy so it is a complaint I will start it like this

I hate when your boss decides that they need you to work in another area for a while and then they expect you to know exactly what you are doing, and the person who is in charge of that area is never any help and an idiot

I hate when you get rejection letters from job interviews and you can just tell that what they wrote was complete BS

I hate when you buy a house and then a week later after taking posetion of it, your boss comes to tell you the week after taking your first week vacation in about 3 years, that you will most likely be laid off in 2 weeks because the work we have been getting does not really require your services

    So now the details

I work as a Draftsperson/Designer at a small construction company where i do a little bit of everything. So about 4-5 weeks ago (just before labour day), my boss came to me and said that with the Site Supervisor/Project Manager off on vacation for the week, and another labourer on vacation, he needed an extra hand on the job site to complete a big job that was coming close to the deadline. I like getting out of the office as much as possible so I said ok. So I worked with a Surveyor the first day laying out the parking lot and the curbs/islands. The next couple days I worked with the excavators digging trenches for the curbs. Thats when the fun began because my boss decided he wanted to keep as much of the existing asphalt as possible for the parking lot, but the drawings we had were designed so that everything was new, so the grades and elevations on the drawings were thrown out the window and I was expected to figure out what they wanted, telepathically. So the first week goes alright, and then I'm told I'm still coming back when the 2 guys come back from vacation until the curbs are in since I worked with the Excavator and Surveyor to lay them out and dig the trenches.

All during this time, and since about July, I had been looking at houses with my girlfriend. We made an offer on one house below asking, and after making a couple counters, we were getting no where (even though the Sellers agent were begging these people to sell cause the house had been on the market so long) so we gave up on that one and moved on. We found a great one that was taken over by the bank right near my house now that woul have been a steal, but we tried to make an offer and think there was some shaddy dealing going on with it cause the Sellers agent would not let the sale go to a competition for the house, as there was an offer made just before ours and he said they would get first crack at it. So we moved on and found another that could be a good investment in a nice neighborhood. It had been vacant since May because the owners had bought it for their son to live in to finish school while they moved out west. They were desperate to sell, but wanted their money back for it. So we offered to pay what they paid a year ago for the house (plus all appliances) and got the house on the condition we take posetion before the end of September. That was not a problem, so we made the deal and took posetion on the 22nd of the house after a quick 2 week closing.

Back to work, So for the next 2 weeks, the work i had just done (the digging and the layout) gets changed and redone about 5 times because the engineer who designed the parking lot doesn't want it to differ from his original design, and also because we were supposed to dig deeper for the curbs to place grannular material below (something I was not aware of was necessary, seeing as how I have never worked installing curbs before). So after a couple more weeks of doing and redoing this work, and guys coming in with machines to grade and regrade the parking lot, I'm starting to get fed up. I am paid on salary, Mon - Fri, 8-5 in the office. I was working more hours and often times I was there longer the the Site Supervisor was, who all I ever saw do the entire time I was there was talk on his cell, make jokes with the subtrades, and take the owners on tours of "his work". I worked 2 extra Saturdays, and even drove down to the Site on Labour day for a couple hours (the only one besides my boss and one of the excavators to do that)

For the past little while I have been applying for jobs to work for local towns/cities in their building departments. So I get 2 calls for interviews, the first on a thursday morning, the next one on the following Monday afternoon. So I tell my boss that I am taking the Thursday off to make up for one of the Saturdays i worked. He never said anything about it, but the Site Supervisor said I couldn't take the time off. I told him I didn't care what he thought and that I worked extra days that I was not paid for, and would be taking this day off for personal reasons, and then compromised by taking only the morning off. Then the next day I message my boss again and tell him that since I couldn't get Thursday off, I needed Monday off. he messaged me that he needed me there and that he couldn't give me Monday off. I said I could be there for the morning, but had things to take care of because I had purchased a house and it closed in a week. He said ok to taking the afternoon off, but the next day they both said they needed me to be fully committed to the jobsite for this week. I had already scheduled my vacation for the next week and was not changing it cause I was using that time to move into my new house.

Fast forward to my vacation, I get the keys to the house late monday and meet my girlfriend and her mother there after she gets home from work. i start mesuring some thing and find that the bedrooms in a 70 year old house weren't made big enough to fit a Queen Size bed, so we decide to make the house a 2 bedrrom from a 3 bedroom and i start taking a wall down the next day. So I spend my week off working on removing a wall and making it look nice instead of moving in. Luckily we both still live at home with our parents so we are in no rush to move in. I get 3 rejection notices for interviews I had been on recently, and all were pretty much the same, "We regret to inform you we chose someone else who was more qualified for the job, blah, blah, blah, etc, etc" For one of the jobs, I had all the qualifications they asked for except for experience in working for a town/City, and from what people tell me, I also didn't have a personal connection with that City/Town. Oh well, I still have my current job, no big deal, I will keep trying. (one fo the jobs I interviewed for has now reposted the job posting) I show up to work on the Friday of my vacation to get my pay check, and my boss mentions that we need to discuss a few things on Monday. So I say ok, see you then, thinking that we are going to talk about upcoming projects. My girlfriend joked that she hopes he isn't firing me.

Well, I show up on Monday, finally back at my desk in my office, about 15 minutes before quiting time, my boss comes to me and says that he feels bad because I just bought a house, but he made the decision last week that he was giving me 2 weeks notice that unless buisness picks up for design build work, he would be laying me off. The big upcoming projects we have upcoming were all designed by Architects, so there is no work for me at the moment, and he is ok with me putting my name out and looking for a new job. I have to spend the night trying to convince my girlfriend things will be fine as she was more worried then i was and instead of working on getting my house ready to move into, I have to spend the night getting my resume sent out and job hunting.

So now I sit here doing absolutly dick all except surf the web looking for a new job at my current job, and venting a bit.

So thats my past couple weeks of rollercoaster ride fun

I don't know what else to say except that I truly feel really sorry for you. I'll be praying for you.

  14. Well, I usually don't post in this thread, but I'm really pissed off today, despite the great news of Jason Pominville signing a long term extension. Sitting behind my computer screen, you have no idea what I look like, but I am in fact a very proud guy of South Asian (Indian) descent. I wanted to start a new student organization at my MBA school. The reason is because South Asians (read people from India) represent about 20% of our student population and there is no student organization dedicated to this minority group. I developed a business case for our student government that approves new student organizations. Well, they rejected my idea. Here is the irony, one of the core values at my MBA school is diversity. They believe that creating a new organization geared towards South Asians will hinder diversity because it creates exclusion because we already have an International Business Association. Apparently, starting a club for South Asians will take students away from the International Business Association and creates more exclusion instead of inclusion. Well, here's my question, why is it okay to have student organizations for Black MBAs and Hispanic MBAs, but not for South Asians when they represent 20% of the student body? Why is it okay to be diverse if you're black or Hispanic, but if your South Asian you're just lumped with everyone else and you don't matter? Why are certain racial groups deemed important and the rest are just marginalized? If you are concerned about exclusion, then there shouldn't be student organizations for Black and Hispanic MBAs either. Why is it acceptable for certain minority groups to have clubs and others are just lumped with everyone else? By blatantly discriminating against one minority group you are destroying the diversity that you are trying to further along through the program, and I'm totally pissed off by this. My choices are to go public and totally bring down the entire school, which will make me look bad in the long run, or just accept the racism. Considering it's MBA school, I'm really trying to get a good, high paying job after the program, so letting this go is in my best financial interest, but I have principles and this just seems wrong. Not sure what to do, but it bugs the hell out of me, that's for sure.

Part of it stems from postmodernism (which, when you think about it, presents its own consequences - which we're seeing right now with the collapse of the US economy thanks to rogue companies that sought quick cash at the expense of the general health of the economy. Now they're getting a dose of their own medicine, and we're forced to take it as well.)

  15. The amount of respect I have for you is dwindling. You might as well wake up in the morning and ask someone to #%^$#! in your mouth.

How is that even possible? You guys are pretty much like-minded on various sundry issues.

Goodness! I don't even ask for respect around here. I've always been my own cat, just like Oliver Cromwell - warts and all.

  16. I hate that Prince isn't recognized for what he is, one of the best musicians/guitarists ever.

    In a pop-culture sense, it's possible.

However, it would be unfair to compare him with classical guitarists Andres Segovia, Narciso Yepes, Sharon Isbin, and Christopher Parkening.

  17. People who have to slow down to see what is going on with a random car on the side of the road, otherwise known as rubberneckers or look-ee-loos.

Ugh! I know the feeling. But that's ok. When some jerk in front of my big rig is at the end of the chain of cars waiting to pass by a wreck. I see them rubbernecking and taking up my precious time that I could be using to deliver freight. They hear about it from me when I pull the air horn LOUD AND CLEAR!!!

So, remember. If any one of youze decides that you're going to look around at the carnage when it doesn't involve you and I'm right behind you waiting to pass the scene of the accident, if a trucker pulls the horn, it might be me.

  18. My complaint this is Thursday is the complaint Thursday thread. Why not make it complaint Wednesday? Wednesdays flat out suck because you know at 12 p.m. you're only 1/2 way through the work week. On Thursdays, I start to get a feeling of excitement for the weekend. Work blows...

Do you have a bumper sticker that says, "Work sucks. Got  ?"
