Weighing in on Cozens NHL chances next season. If Cozens is in the NHL next season, I think it should be on a line that (1) has some reasonably skilled players around him and (2) will not be used heavily as a defensive/shutdown line. I’m also going to assume that he won’t be ready for 1st line action or anything like that. So that seems to me like he should be tried at either C or RW on a depth scoring line. I don’t know if that would be considered a 3rd or 4th line, it really depends on how ice time is split up. Either way, he should be put in a situation where the pressure is clearly not on him to be an impactful scorer or to shutdown the opposition. And if after training camp, preseason, and his first 9 NHL games, he is looking iffy, just send back to juniors with lots of praise about what he showed and a promise that he’ll be in the NHL next (2021-22) year. Please.

PA is an emu, confirmed.

In general I agree with you. However, if you go look at Tampa’s roster and who has NMC. There are very limited options of players with any notable salary that don’t have a NMC, and they need resign Cirelli, Sergachev, and Cernak coming off their ELC’s in the same offseason that Vasilevsky’s cap hit increases by $6M. Im not saying that they definitely can’t find a way to wiggle out of it without losing a good young player, but their situation this offseason will be worse than it was last offseason.

Yeah, you have to waive a player (giving other teams an opportunity to pick them up) in order to send them to the AHL. A player can’t be cut like in the NFL. The team doesn’t have to play him, could send him down, could probably even tell him to not bother coming to work anymore, but the player is not free to sign with any other team, because they are still under contract with Buffalo. The player can be bought out, which frees the player to sign with another team while still getting paid, but also stretches out their cap hit into future years. Or the contract can be terminated if both player and team agree to it. The player does not get paid in this case though, but is allowed to sign a new contract with another team.
-
Yes, because he violated terms of his contract that warranted termination. Bogo hasn’t done anything like that.
-
Does this actually happen? Under what circumstances would a team do this?
-
NHL teams can’t “release” players in this way, can they? Releasing them but still paying them? That would circumvent the cap. If this was possible Bogo and Okposo would have already been “released” long ago. They can buy players out, or players and team can agree to mutual contract termination. A buy out pays the player, but counts against the cap. Mutual termination, terminates the contract and the player doesn’t get paid.
-
I would give them Risto or Montour and a 2nd, without a 2nd thought. I’d even throw in an extra 2nd. It would only take me a second to decide.
-
It’s a thing that can happen. Bogosian and Buffalo would have to mutually agree to such a contract termination. But that’s not what is happening right now. He is not going through unconditional waivers for the purposes of contract termination. He is going through regular waivers. He can be claimed by another team, and if he clears waivers he could be sent to the AHL.
-
Boudreau is a good coach, I believe. Hasn’t had a great deal of success in the playoffs, but I can’t see how that would affect Buffalo at all.
-
Even if he clears waivers, he can’t sign a cheaper deal with another team. He will still be on his big contract. Unfortunately.

OT: Information on Coronavirus from the Far East
Curt replied to Scottysabres's topic in The Aud Club
There are certainly some good points here. I have an open mind. I understand that the numbers coming from the Chinese government are probably unreliable. I’m sure it’s true that mortality rates would be much higher in an overwhelmed hospital setting. It’s true that the size of Wuhan and many other Chinese cities is something that isn’t present in the US outside of NYC and LA. The numbers do get very large, very quickly. Basically, there is still a lot that we don’t know with any certainty, and I’m cautious to get worked up without more concrete information. You certainly have given me some things to consider though. I hope you didn’t take offense to my “are theses numbers out of thin air?” comment. I was truly asking where the numbers came from. I hadn’t heard anything of that magnitude. -
For unconditional waivers, Bogo would have had to already agreed to terminate, yes?
-
How does unconditional release work?
-
So, they couldn’t find anyone who wanted to trade for him. Now they’ll see if anyone wants him for nothing. This seems like a last ditch effort to get ride of his salary.
-
Cernak did care, but there was also a game going on that he was trying to play. After the game he told reports that he asked Kassian “what the heck was that?!” Paraphrasing. Not that it matters at all. It’s something that you just can not do regardless. When you have giant blades attached to your feet, you shouldn’t try to kick people. I feel like I should not even need to type that sentence, but apparently I do.

Yes, tens of thousands of people will buy something terrible. Happens all the time. It doesn’t matter. If someone bought it and loves it, that’s fine, but I still think that logo is so ugly. That’s not going to change, even if all 7 billion people on the planet bought 1,000 slug jerseys each. It makes total sense to me. It’s my opinion. You can’t prove to me that they are not awful, just as you can’t prove that blue and gold is better that red and black. It’s an aesthetic opinion, it’s unprovable. I loved those teams though.
-
.....bs (and total reckless a-hole) move on Kassian’s side.
-
Cernak took his time getting up for sure, but it doesn’t even matter. Don’t try to blame Cernak for it. You can’t intentionally kick someone with your skate blade. It’s incredibly dangerous.

Kassian kicking Cernak in the chest with the blade of his skate. He’ll be getting another phone call from the NHL here. Maybe he should settle down a little.
-
Yes, probably true. It’s also true that tons of fans have been throwing money at the team for years to get the privilege of season tickets for a crap product. Just because someone is willing to buy it doesn’t prove that it’s not terrible.

OT: Information on Coronavirus from the Far East
Curt replied to Scottysabres's topic in The Aud Club
Ten cent has not been reporting this. Two weeks ago their website displayed very high numbers for a few hours only. Tencent does not stand behind those numbers. The article you linked says as much. I say this completely understanding the control China has over information and how this can affect what is reported. Numbers coming out of China are not necessarily reliable. How do you explain the numbers coming from outside of China? Every nation with confirmed cases is lying about the transmission and mortality rates? To what end? EDIT: correcting what I previously wrote. There have been 580 confirmed cases and 3 deaths outside of mainland China. -

Where did you come up with these numbers? Out of thin air? There are no reports of anything anywhere close to such numbers. Outside of China, there have been something like 400+ confirmed cases and only 1 death, so it seems basically impossible that it could have something like a 20% mortality rate. -
But so ugly. An abomination. These are facts.
