Not what you said on July/18 or the day of his signing...good sir.
-
This was your comment the day of the signing... "This is a great, value deal from Botterill (that we haven't been used to seeing a lot of) that I think says a lot about how he does business. It therefore says a lot about how Botterill must view Jack Eichel. To give him the deal he gave him, right off the hop." Seems you were quite pleased with JBot as well...

Look what I found on this site on July 6, 2018. You wanted a 2 year bridge. "I'm hoping for a 2 year bridge deal. I was tempted to say 3 years, but it might be better if Reinhart, Mittelstadt, and Dahlin aren't all up at once. They can sign Reino to a longer term deal after that, assuming it's warranted, or even after the first year if Botterill thinks Sam is primed for a breakout after watching him again this coming season." Seems you wanted a bridge deal, doesn't it???

Hindsight is 20/20. If you ask me, Ehlers has barely lived up to his deal until this year. Knowing what you know now you should have locked him up but you didn't know that then. Were you calling for him to be locked up after his ELC. If you weren't, you don't have a foot to stand on. If you were, what dollar amount were you suggesting. Ehlers first three years were 38, 64 and60 points. Rhino's were 42, 47 and 50 points. Similar first years and then Ehlers pulled away from Rhino. How mcuh would he have gotten locked up in a 6 year deal? 4.75m? 5m? Do you think he would have signed for that? I'll bet he would have taken 45m-48m over 7 years last year but we will never know. The fact of the matter is he should have been locked up last year and he wasn't and Adams gave ALL the leverage to Rhino by giving him a one year deal. Horrible decision. Now, if they don't lock him up and I would think they would have to seriously have to overpay him to get him to stay, Eichel is even one step closer to the door. Horrible decision.

Fixing the Sabres Long-Term - Can it be done?
Ducky replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
I'd offer Seattle a 1st this year and a 3rd in 2023 and eat 1m of his contract but I highly doubt he wants to play in Seattle. -
Yup, from the Flames he certainly will.
-
Aren't qualifying offers 120% of the AAV? 7 x 1.2 = 8.4m Still too much but he'll get it. they don't have much else there.

Was PLD the CBJ's best player...Jones?

I agree with this post 100%. Monahan, Kachook, Anderson and a 1st would be enough for Eichel but you are getting taken to the cleaners if you include Rhino. Monahan is an ok 2C that has scored 76 points in the last 120 games over the last two seasons and almost ALWAYS plays with Johnny regular season Hockey. I wouldn't trade him straight up for Rhino. If the flames are getting Rhino and Eichel the deal would have to be centered around Lindell and Zary with a ton of adds. Add 2 first round picks, Anderson or Hanifin and a few other adds. I know people like Kachook but I wouldn't want him on my team...or his brother for that matter.

That's a normal and fair bridge isn't it? He averaged 47 points a season on his ELC. The problem was not locking him up last year, not his bridge. I said so when he signed it and I stand by it.
-
If Rhino goes to arbitration, there is no way he stays. As far as publicly complaining about not making the playoffs, that should never be mentioned in public. That is for behind closed doors with your agent and GM. Little played 7 years without one playoff game and didn't utter a peep but he is a consumate pro.
-
I believe that the Sabres don't make the playoffs next season even if Jack stays. Too hard of a decision and not enough talented players on the team not to mention you don't have a starting goalie signed.
-
You think the playoffs are on the horizon by trading Jack for Scheif?
-
I thought he was bridged and Adams signed him to the one year deal (giving Rhino ALL the leverage)?
-
Fans need to realize the Sabres will not be a contender for a minimum of at LEAST 3 years and maybe more. You need a bona fide goalie, but most of all you need a competent GM. I would have fired him as soon as he signed Rhino to that one year deal.
-
I was asked if I would make the trade and I answered yes I would. I am not saying it would happen. Scheif is not going to turn this team into a contender. Do you think he is a point-a-game player on the Sabres?
-
You'd trade them straight up? Scheif has the better contract but JE is younger and better. I'd make the trade in a heartbeat. Play him with KC and Ehlers with no A or C on his sweater and he probably scores close to 100 points...as long as we upgrade our D and coach. Scheif and Maurice for Eichel!
-
Anybody would straight up but that isn't happening.
-
Just watched the interview. Sadly, I think Eichel is gone. He's a better center than Scheif and I'd hate it if he wanted out. I'd love him on the Jets but it will never happen. This is definitely Pegula's fault and nobody else's. Hiring an inexperienced GM was/is a grave mistake and it shows. Eichel should have been given an A, if anything, not the C (I know Adams didn't do this). I really couldn't believe when Rhino was signed to a one year deal. He's a consistent 60-65 point man, why not lock him up??? I'd fire Adams as soon as the regular season ended. Get a veteran GM and let him build the team and don't meddle. I honestly don't think his interview hurt his value because he is a legitimate top 5 center. You guys will get a ton back for him and there will be multiple offers for him. I can guarantee you that 31 teams will be phoning to see what it would cost to pry him out of Buffalo. In my opinion, a futures laced deal along with a half decent center is the way to go. Cozens has 1C written all over him but it won't be next season. This team will not be a contender for 4 or so years so I wouldn't waste the return on older players. You should be able to pick up a decent center along with one or two 1st round picks and one or two blue chip prospects. Build around Dahlin and Cozens. Draft well without trading top picks away. The fans need to be patient and trading Eichel will more or less force this.

my opinion still stands and the rest of that group are not good defensively
-
Keep on reading you will get there
-
Read the rest of the sentence you quoted...
-
Maybe I am wrong and my bias is showing there but my opinion still stands and the rest of that group are not good defensively but ***** on him all you want, it is evident you don't like Scheif. Not sure why, envious maybe. Like I said, at 6.125m x 8 years, I don't have too many complaints. Better than a ppg player for the last 4 or 5 years.
-
Crosby, McJ and Drai being bad defensively is a fact and you can add P. Kane to that list as well.
