  1. It's micro today because we've shifted all the power and money to Washington, that's the point. When it comes to national politics I'm a huge cynic, so any debate ya'll want to have, in my opinion is pointless. You can take the 16 republican candidates and 4 democrats and besides Trump and Sanders, pull one out of a hat at random and they'd all be the same, so, what's the point ?
  2. Your right, but, even more reason you have a voice. In our last school board election only a couple thousand people voted. Imagine the influence a group of 50-100 citizens could have to fight for or against "common core" or busing or athletics. If you write your congressman in Washington, good luck getting a response from him/her -- write your local school board representative, you'll liable to get an answer within 12 hours
  3. Of course they are. The big difference is that it's a lot easier to affect change locally than nationally. Special interest groups have taken over both national parties to a point where a regular citizen has lost his voice in Washington. Ask yourself how different Obama is vs. Bush ? Obamacare is one of the biggest big business special interest programs of all-time, think what it has given the large healthcare companies. Bush handed over billions in prescription programs to same industry. Why ? Special interests. So, tell me what's the difference between Bush and Obama ? What about Wall Street ? Liberals called Bush the biggest friend of Wall St. Take a minute and look at Obama's policies with respect to Wall St.; not much difference. If you only read decisions made, you couldn't tell if president was republican or democrat over the past 30 years. Even foreign policy, conservatives feared Obama would cave on Guantanamo Bay, terrorism etc. In end, Obama has kept Guantanamo open and has had more drone strikes than Bush by a factor of 10, so, what's the difference ? Again, my point is simple, Conservatives/Republicans SUCK. Liberals/Democrats SUCK. So, if you want to fix it, I'd rather have that piece of representative at arm's length, living in my community, drinking the same water I drink, eating at the same restaurants and experiencing the same crime. I have a voice locally. Nationally, I'm another victim of the same tired policies.
  4. Clearly human rights, defense and a several other programs and issues belong at Federal level. But, most (in terms of number, maybe not $$) belong at state/local level. Most Americans don't realize that the US Senate is suppose to represent the state government interest, the house is called the "people's house" for a reason. Our founding father's debated long and hard to ensure state's remained sovereign and empowered. Today, we've shifted the balance so far to the Federal government, we might as well eliminate the state governments and save a bunch of $$ if we don't change it.
  5. I heard a great line this morning on local talk radio that I thought I'd share: "Conservatives are hypocrites and they know it. Liberals are hypocrites but don't realize it." Bottom line, Washington is full of hypocrites. If you want change, you dis-empower Washington as much as possible and you move decision making to states and ultimately to local governments. Citizens can affect change at a local level, have a larger voice and are more empowered. What do you do ? Resist any program that is destined to be managed by the Federal government and work tirelessly to defend state's rights.
  6. Disgusted. A concussed goalie coming off 2 bad years. I would be okay if it was the 51st pick, but the 21st. GMTM got schooled by his uncle.
  7. I've been a long time lurker and just recently started to post. I was very passionate about the situation concerning the tank and was openly critical of GMTM and Pegula for not taking more overt action during the last month. I was shocked at some of the accusations several posters threw my way -- for some reason they accused me of being another poster that reemerged under a different name, some called me a troll and others threatened to block me (obviously those that did that won't see this post) -- for some bizarre reason one poster kept posting pictures of bunnies ?? -- not sure what that was about, weird, but must be an inside joke To be honest, it turned me off from posting and to certain extent from reading this forum. I belong to a couple other forums, I've never been blocked, I've never been called a troll and along the way over past years I've been involved in some very controversial and heated discussions, so not sure why this forum was different ? --- I think sabre space tends to be dominated by fewer voices than the other forums I'm on, which might simply be a membership issue or could be a result of the squeaky wheels drowning out everyone else thoughts --- Either way, I applaud the OP for asking the question and for our opinions as silent members, reading the responses I plan to give the forum another shot and I'll try to temper my passion as well
  8. Jack Eichel is not staying in school, he will turn pro this summer. The guy is an elite athlete and an elite competitor. People like that want to be on the big stage and prove themselves against the best. Does anyone really think a few off-handed remarks by Tim Murray sway Eichel in the least ? If you do, you don't know how elite competitors think. Jack Eichel can't wait to be in the NHL to prove he is the best !
  9. What will always stand out to me is the repeated attempts by The Buffalo News (specifically Bucky and Harrington) to try and shame the Sabres organization for rebuilding in a manner that significantly increased the odds to get the first pick or at a minimum a very high pick. TBN's apparent agenda and disdain for Pegula and I guess, Tim Murray shocks me. Their fixation on all things negative makes them look desperate for a perspective that creates attention, because it certainly doesn't make any long term sense to the health of this franchise. My negativity the last two weeks of the season stemmed from an apparent lack of finality by the GM to the stated objective, it almost felt like he was "chickening out" on finishing the job. What the TBN did was decide to embark on a year long crusade to drive public opinion against the tank and fracture the fan base even more than it was. I'm glad WGR was supportive, almost to a fault, because without that media counter balanced, it would have been impossible to survive this season.
  10. Nolan will never coach another game in the NHL. The Sabres gave him an opportunity to rehabilitate his NHL image and, instead, he chose to outwardly attempt to sabotage that same organization's stated strategy. Good riddance.
  11. I apologize if I came across like a donkey. I was trying to be provocative and "poke the bear" to wake everyone on this thread up. I just started reading this forum a few months ago and never posted before a few weeks back. I never thought my comments would lead to bunnies (whatever that means) and blocking. To be honest, when I read the last 10-20 pages of this thread I felt like all of you were simply willing to accept what happens and stay committed as fans, almost like you are victims of abuse afraid to speak up. I think we deserve better as fans. Nolan is being paid by the Sabres, he should be aligned to the franchise's objectives, if he is not Murray should take action. I don't think that is asking too much. Love Georgia, but boy do I miss La Nova, Wegman's, Duff's and Ted's.
  12. Drastically lower expectations for this franchise over the next 3-4 years and decide how much time and treasure to invest in this team. I'm really not trolling, I'm just extremely frustrated and feeling betrayed as a STH that this team sold me a bill of goods. I did my part, I renewed my STH's even after I moved to Macon. I fly back 4-5 times a year and catch 9-10 games in person. Is it too much to ask the franchise to do whatever they can to finish the job that they defined themselves as the mission ? I'm surprised so many of you are so complacent that you are willing to block me ? Granted I made some provocative statements, but I wasn't the one trolling pictures of bunnies in response to serious questions that I've raised about the commitment our franchise has shown us fans. Again, block away. But closing your eyes and ears to the truth is just lying to yourself.
  13. Last I checked Bush won, so, I guess he did do a better job in the debate. BTW, I bet my girlfriend that you'd bring George Bush into this, you libs are so predictable.
  14. "Because 'change' is not a destination, just as 'hope' is not a strategy." --- Rudy Giuliani 9/3/2008
  15. I got it. So, when the proverbial sh*t hits the fan, we'll just pretend we have McEichel on the team. Will they still sell jerseys or will that be pretend too ? What's this called the Cinderella strategy of coping as fans who haven't won a Cup in our existence ?
  16. This is the Carrion Thread isn't it ? You know, the thread where fans gather to cheer their team to last place. For those of you more interested in the team picking 3rd and missing out on a generational talent, why don't you start a "I'm a wimpy fan, without any balls and love mediocrity" thread No wonder this organization take us real fans for granted.
  17. Lindback in net tonight. This franchise is so dysfunctional it doesn't deserve a generational talent. Unf**king believable, one regulation loss away and you play the HOT goaltender. I guess Mr. Murray decided to spend day in Erie drooling instead of instructing his subordinate to FINISH THE JOB and start Hackett. Insane.
  18. Shane Doan OUT tonight "lower body injury", yeah right But, keep sending your bunnies, while the Yotes STEAL 30th right from under our noses. Finish the job !!
  19. Seriously ? What are you a bunch of 12-year old girls talking in the schoolyard (who is this poster ?, what is his profile?), wow ! This is one of the most pivotal times in this franchise's history and the two of you are worried about my profile and whether I'm some reincarnation of some older poster ?? Focus on the task at hand and . . . Finish the job.
  20. What, you don't have the stomach to do what's necessary to get to last place ? Why do you think they call this TANKING, it takes hard work, commitment and a resolve that most teams, franchises and fans aren't willing to undertake. We aren't pushovers like France in WWII, we are England, we will fight to the end to see this through, we will fight on the seas, we will never surrender to weak minded and pussified fans, never ! Finish the job!
  21. Oh look, McDavid is on the Leafs and Eichel is playing for the Coyotes ! Wake up. Finish the job.
  22. Didn't Lindback just make 49 saves against the Canes ? I guess you want to pick 3rd and miss out on a generational talent. The owner and GM should leave nothing to chance. Field the absolute worst lineup, play the 4th line as much as you can. Wake up Buffalo, we are one regulation loss away from landing the best prospect since Gilbert Perrault, why are we letting off the gas with the finish line in sight and another car 2 lengths behind us ??? Finish the job.
  23. Even better. Actually, Hackett is healthy.
