    We agree. 6 p.m.

But the lights won't come down until 7. I'd be willing to do a charity bet on this one.

So if the lights come down at 6:59 you would concede? I'll take that bet.

I think every other night that a pre game ceremony was going down you would be correct, but they have sent me emails reminding me when to be there. I also think the Sabres media staff have become much better at their craft (if resent past performance is any indication) and I'm prepared for a very nice tribute.

I'll gladly buy you a beer if I'm wrong.

Signing a commitment letter is not the same as being enrolled or being a bona-fide student.  You can sign a commitment letter then change your mind and never go.

Then how are you a bona-fide student in May of 2020 (Levi's date) ?

I'm assuming a commitment letter and that commitment is fulfilled when you show up to school that fall.

    By what account is this?

They should absolutely tell people to be seated by 6:40. They should also internally plan to start at 7 bc it makes perfect sense on many levels. For one it's when viewers are accustomed to tuning in.

You are truly a piece of work. See you at the next meetup. Mandy is making keto pancakes.

As long as she is bringing the keto syrup there will be peace and love.

It's great fun when we can't even agree what time to sit down.

    Never a dull moment.

Okay, was interested enough to look:

Drafted at 18 or 19: check

    Drafted Late June 2019.

    Played USHL 2019-2020

    Played NCAA 2020-2021 and 2021-2022

So, the question is, when is he a bona-fide college student? From the sounds of it, it had to be before June 1 2020.

He must have signed a commitment letter prior to June of 2020.

Signing a commitment letter is a bona-fide student, so I'm assuming the letter was signed pre June 2021.

    Levi was drafted on 2020.

    Sorry Matt you're talk Portillo

Anywho... lol... if they're urging people to be in their seats by 6:40 then the ceremony better start at 7. How many times have we had to sit and wait until 7:25 for the start of a road game while Teemu Mcshanahan is fellated (feted damn autoconniption)?

People don't take that "be in your seats" crap seriously. 7 is a safer bet.

Rob Ray stated last night they are asking people to start seating at 6:20 for a 6:40 ceremony start.

I really don't care when it starts I'll be there early.

Nobody should listen to you, the ceremony starts at 6:45 by all accounts. You want to miss it go ahead but I won't be taking your "safer bet" based on nothing but "they always ***** this stuff up anyways so go late"

    But most likely this.

It doesn't matter, that's the entire point of ""If a Player drafted at age 18 or 19 is a bona fide college student at the time of his selection in the Entry Draft, or becomes a bona fide college student prior to the first June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft... the fourth June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft,"

He became a college player as of June 1 in the year following his selection. He will complete 4 years post draft next year. Both things at play, he's can leave college and become a UFA if he wants.

Thank you for being patient with me.

    I see what happened now.

"Levi committed to play in Boston for the NCAA Division I Northeastern University's Huskies men's ice hockey team, starting in the 2020–21 season. However, Levi did not begin his college career until the following season, due to his lingering rib injury"

He was in school just not playing.

Year one meaning when he enrolls in college or year one meaning post draft? I'm not sure what you're saying.

    Where was he year one?

In the USHL and  in college, or was he at home in the USHL?

    edit for a little clarification.

You just need to be enrolled but not go to college for the clock to start ticking?

I don't understand why you are ignoring the first part of the clause that says "(a) the fourth June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft,"

It also says he must be a student at the time of drafting, both must apply.

"If a Player drafted at age 18 or 19 is a bona fide college student at the time of his selection in the Entry Draft, or becomes a bona fide college student prior to the first June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft

So it's your belief that if Portillo played three years of ushl before enrolling in Michigan that Buffalo would have seven years to decide if they want to sign him?

That to me starts year 1.

Earlier in the year, I was told that there were a whole bunch of other reasons why attendance was down. I didn’t buy it then, I buy it even less now.

It ramped up because the team is playing great hockey and is worth going to see now. I believe that for some, just seeing RJ’s banner being raised would not have been enough to get them to go.

    Who's pretending that?

  11. 1 minute ago, Hank said:

It don't matter if he played three years in the in the ushl and would be a freshman next year or if he went straight to Michigan and was entering his senior season. Four years post Draft he's a UFA if he's not signed, where he played post draft is irrelevant.

That's not at all how it's written.

If a Player drafted at age 18 or 19 is a bona fide college student at the time of his selection in the Entry Draft,

is in his fourth year of college and has commenced his fourth year of NCAA eligibility, or (2) is in his fourth year of college and is scheduled to graduate from college at the end of his fourth year, then in the circumstances described in (1) or (2), the Club shall retain the exclusive right of negotiation for such Player's services through and including the August 15

Nowhere does it say 4 years post draft is he eligible for UFA.

    Ok

I do feel our biggest issue is goaltending but that is arguably the hardest position to guess at. Goalies get hot the drop; play terrible except 1 year where they win a Vezina; and sometimes a bit of both and more.

Look at Anderson in Carolina, he looked cooked in Toronto just this past year.
Where did the Hamburgler go after his miraculous 30 game run he had in Ottawa? Murray won two Cups as a rookie and then imploded within the next 5 years. Choosing goalies to fill in holes is like one of those aggravating fair games where you toss rings at bottles and try to get them to go around the top. Drafting them is almost just as much a crapshoot seeing as goalies can take anywhere from a year to a decade to actually come into their own. Analytics can help, but even they have serious flaws in truly predicting goalie talent.

Im not saying Adams shouldn’t even try; but I certainly won’t crucify him if he gets a seemingly good goalie to hold the crease for a few years only for them to flop

How much draft capital do they spend on a goalie that had a hot year?

How much draft capital do  they spend on a goalie that was good (NHL average?) for 3-4 years?

Does acquiring either mean future play will be at or near past performance?

The only way you win with a goalie is to bring one up through the ranks.

    You where OOOHHH so close!

    https://thehockeywriters.com/what-ever-happened-to-jimmy-carson/

Well, Carson embarked on a new career as a financial advisor.  A quote from former owner of the Los Angeles Kings, Bruce McNall says about Carson’s decision to leave hockey: (LA Times)

“In a weird way, I knew Jimmy’s heart was not as much into it,” says McNall of his friend, who neither smoked, drank nor partied with teammates. “He was an intellectual, multidimensional guy, read the Wall Street Journal, and so many other players just don’t have his opportunities and interests. So I always thought, deep down, that maybe long-term hockey wouldn’t be for him.”

@Curt See, they go to class!

If I needed more proof that my hockey fandom was sort of spotty in the late 80s, here it is. I can barely recall who this dude is/was.

I was in college in the late 80's. If it didn't have a twist off top or big hair there was little interest.
