  1. Nothing wrong with Frank's Hot Sauce, but if you can get Texas Pete's Hot Sauce in your area, that would be my heartfelt recommendation. I bring boatloads of it to my Canadian relatives whenever I head up there, and I sometimes wonder if they're happier to see me or to get their latest fix of Texas Pete's!
  2. Patriots cheat. Patriots get caught. Patriots only get hand slap. Some things never change... https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/29380577/new-england-patriots-fined-11-million-lose-draft-pick-film-crew-fallout
  3. Which begs the question: Are we indeed still a first world country? If so, it feels like we are at best somewhat uncomfortable with this status. We have been trending downwards in this department for awhile now. And this did not begin in 2016...
  4. So let's say the COVID situation really amps up over the next few weeks. Eventually it gets so bad that the NHL in good conscience must cancel the playoffs. Then how do they decide who gets the top pick? Shitshow indeed!
  5. Things are certainly trending towards an extended sports shutdown. The Blue Jays also closed shop. 21 Clemson football players tested positive. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/29336227/21-clemson-football-players-positive-covid-19-latest-testing
  6. I have been increasingly pessimistic ever since the Pegs arrived. Today I am even more pessimistic. But I am just a piss-ant fan who doesn't even live in Buffalo. I'll survive. My thoughts go to the people who are still in the organization. I'm sure there are a few there who are hopeful after today, but I would bet the vast remaining majority of players, staff, management, etc. are asking themselves WTF? And not in a good way. I imagine exit strategies being contemplated by many who now want nothing more than to be associated with some other - ANY OTHER - organization.
  7. Great song! That pianist is no doubt an absolute spitting image of Wolfman Jack, but it is actually Colin Earl who is the brother of Foghat drummer Roger Earl.
  8. If Clint Eastwood brings PBR to my house, I'd be perfectly happy to have him sit and watch me do my own yardwork!
  9. I watched the Lance Armstrong 30 for 30 on ESPN tonight and last Sunday night (two 2-hour episodes). I would recommend watching it no matter where you fall out on the scale of how you feel about him. There was a comment about him being a very Shakespearean character that really struck a chord with me. There was another quote about good people being so capable of badness, and bad people doing really good things. Very gray, and a very good story.
  10. Perhaps this belongs in the pedant thread (as in almost certainly) ...but what's wrong here is our failure to discern the difference between the definitions of the words antisocial and asocial. Antisocial is vandalism, fighting, harassing people, theft, etc. Anti - as in "against". Asocial is people chilling out alone. A - as in "not". If I go out and start fires and loot, I am antisocial. If I stay at home alone and don't bother anybody, I am asocial. Society needs to relearn this distinction, just as it needs to relearn the fact that "melty" is not a real word. #AsocialPedantaryPride!
  11. This was excellent! Thanks! I never knew the story on Geddy Lee's first name before this video - lol.
  12. Getting back to the best bassists question...John Entwistle... https://www.musicradar.com/news/why-john-entwistle-was-the-greatest-rock-bassist-of-all-time
  13. John Entwistle and Les Claypool.
  14. More Steve Winwood - Traffic - Dear Mr. Fantasy...
  15. Husband: Hey, where is my screwdriver at? Wife: You can't end a sentence with a preposition. Husband: Fine. Where is my screwdriver at, b!tch?
  16. Very True. Expecting co-habitators to maintain a 6 feet distance from each other in public actually increases the possibility of spreading Covid to others. If anything they should be hanging all over each other!
  17. Better Call Saul has been really good. I'm delighted there will be at least a season 6. I can't help but try to connect the potential dots from Saul to Breaking Bad. It's an interesting dynamic that Saul is a prequel to BB. Anybody who liked Breaking Bad...well, you just gotta watch Saul.
  18. When people in the US really became serious about COVID-19 being a true threat, Seattle/Washington state was easily one of the biggest hot spots. As we all know, a few weeks later, things have gotten a bit crazier across the whole country, but the numbers seem to have really settled down in Seattle/Wash state. Is this just because they got hit so early and there has been enough time for positive cases to have recovered there? Did they do something more proactive than the rest of the USA to take a bite out of how this thing has spread? Edit - I wonder about Texas, too. They have 5 of the top 13 cities in the US population-wise, but their numbers of infections are lower, relatively speaking (less than 3000 cases statewide today per CDC) compared to some other states with far smaller populations.
  19. I'm glad at least some people realize how important truckers are to society during challenging times like these. I think the truth is that most people don't appreciate how important truckers are when everything is rosy. The USA is a huge country size-wise and if we had to move all the products we take for granted strictly by rail, water and air, our standard of living in the majority of this country would be far less desirable than it is today.
  20. This pandemic is pretty unprecedented in terms of post-1917. This current stock market is something that doesn't happen often, but it definitely happens, and will happen again and again in the future. Technology has always advanced in what seems to the current generation to be leaps and bounds. It does seem to be happening exponentially faster now, and I worry that that will surely bring some completely unforeseen negative consequences. The Cold War was fun. Being taught in school that life on this planet could completely be obliterated at any minute (unless you stop, drop and roll) was a real joy. I must say though that the state of politics these days is at what feels like an all time low. Dems and GOP are hellbent on becoming the next Shi'a - Sunni scenario. It's toxic, moronic and embarrassing. The death of true journalism is extremely disconcerting to me, also. Nothing good can come of that.
  21. A couple things for you... If you stick to liquid investments like stocks, ETF's, bond funds, etc., you can liquidate at any time with only nominal costs (like the $9.99 sales fee for example). If you are investing in a CD with a 2-year maturity, and you suddenly want to bail 3 months in, then there are additional costs, and this represents a less liquid asset. As an extreme, investing in a small business is not a liquid investment at all. You don't want to invest in anything liquid if you think it will take an extended period to start appreciating. Certain airlines may indeed be a good investment, but you don't want to invest in them until they actually are viable on a real-time basis. I'm not saying that time is not now, because I don't know. The market is a bit volatile now as we all know. But if/when you do make the plunge, you should be doing it with the expectation that your investment is a good bet not only in the long run, but also right at the time you invest. In general terms, someone in your age category should seriously consider being in the market for the vast majority of your working life. Traditionally, this has produced the most wealth for individuals going back multiple generations. However stay true to your risk tolerance. If being in stocks makes you too nervous, find something more conservative that doesn't make you worry as much.
  22. funny - I just edited my No response to reflect that possibilty.
  23. No, unless it's your only debt. You are getting a 60-day free ride of 0% interest on the student loan. As a general rule, when paying off debt, you should always pay off the debt with the highest interest rates first. Naturally you should still pay minimums on all other debts to prevent additional fees and dings to your credit score, but any payments above minimum dues should always go toward the highest interest rate debts. Depending on your risk tolerance, if you've got extra money sitting around, you may want to consider investing it. For example, it would be better to invest money that makes 20% than to pay off a 10% interest rate debt.
