I’m not saying it’s an issue, it’s an asset where they can afford a larger salary or help another team with their cap by taking on another player along with a goalie. And a 40 year old injury prone Anderson is not a reliable option for backup. You get a goalie to pair with UPL, and let them split games until one becomes the clear starter.

No, they need to use their cap space and draft picks to trade for a proven younger NHL goalie who’s been in the league a couple of years and ready to be a starter, like Georgiev from Rangers.

I DVR Sabres games anyway so I can fast forward through commercials and stoppages, so I’ll also DVR the draft, and then go back and forth an hour after to have continuous action.

That’s a simplistic view. I’m talking about over the past two weeks when they lost close games. The defensemen would have solidified the defense as a top pair, both preventing the opposition from scoring, and creating more scoring chances with puck possession. Krebs would have provided a quality forward who could drive his line. The impact would flow throughout the lineup. A missed opportunity.

Three losses for the Amerks this weekend, two against the only team below them, have pretty much killed their playoff chances. Meanwhile the Sabres kept the players that could have helped them the past two weeks. Poor management by KA results in another missed opportunity that was there for the taking.

Even more amazing is that they still have to pay Cody Hodgson and Christian Ehrhoff almost $800k each next season.

And the needs of the Sabres are to get their developing young players some playoff experience, which hasn’t happened at the NHL level for over a decade.

The Sabres have one call up move left. It doesn’t affect players being sent down who do not yet have to clear waivers, so that is not an issue. And if my team was struggling I’d appreciate some reinforcements being sent to get over the hump, which they haven’t been able to do on their own. And the argument that they’d be upset is ridiculous. They were originally brought up due to injuries. Those players are back and available to play. They knew the plan was to send them back for the playoffs. The Amerks are in a de facto playoff run now. Win or they’re out.

They go with the understanding that they’re going to help the team, it’s not a punishment. They know they were designated to be allowed to go back. And they are not losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in two weeks. Power wasn’t signed when they had to make the designation of who could go back down.

The issue isn’t that he’s bad, the issue is that he, Fitzgerald, and Krebs could help the Amerks make the playoffs. The Sabres aren’t going anywhere. They could extend their and other prospects season by weeks in the AHL.

The Amerks were in 2nd place earlier in the season. Then they got hurt with callups to the Sabres and injuries. But the Sabres now have 9 healthy defensemen and still won’t send the Amerks any help. No excuse for that.

Unless they have a dramatic finish it looks like the Amerks will miss the playoffs. They only had to finish in the top 5 out of 7 teams. The organization talked about wanting to get their young players playoff experience, but then didn’t send down the eligible young players that could have got them there. Another missed opportunity while the Sabres have plenty of healthy veterans sitting.

You think Mitts is a good center? He’s slow and easily gets knocked off the puck. I cringe when he plays in OT. Krebs is faster and more physical. So yes, Krebs is younger, has more potential, and can replace the minimal contribution Mitts makes.

Ever hear of Jack Quinn and JJ Peterka? And if you say they’re not centers, Krebs can play 3rd line center next season.

KA needs to shop Mittlestat during the summer to see what he can get. He’s more of a liability than an asset, and his spot can be filled by a younger player with more potential.
