I’ve bounced around a lot in the last eleven years and I would say Charleston is by far the most “happening” place I’ve been. There’s a ton of restaurant and bars and obviously the ocean. The city planning is just atrocious and the housing prices are insane. I’m hoping to move March 2023, but I could easily be convinced to stay. It’s not my dream environment, but there’s a lot of fun to be had still.

I don’t care what the owners say, I would like them to acknowledge what’s going on though.

Hockey rinks are on Indian Trail and town center. I kind of like Pineville better, but Indian Trail has pickup before work. Never lived in Charlotte but used to go there for shows when I lived in Fayetteville and to skate when I played hockey at school in Boone. Dates a girl from Matthews for a while too and went there a couple times. Not a bad area. Charlotte has one of the better music scenes in the south if that’s your cup of tea. North Carolina is infinitely better of a state than South Carolina is, but if you’re looking to move to the Charlotte area and you’re fine with more conservative state politics, I’d probably just move to SC. I’m in Charleston now, but I’m thinking about moving back to WNC. Need some mountains back in my life.

Security theater isn’t security though. Six TSA agents BS’ing in a circle and two overweight agents arbitrarily searching bags that have already passed through security does nothing for me. TSA is an unemployment program and little more in my opinion.

I mean, I've spent 5 hours a week for the past 7 baseball seasons working with 12 year olds. You can stick in your ear buds and listen to the radio at the games like the rest of the old timers and once they all die out there won't be a sport left. This isn't hockey where if no youth in America gave a crap there would still be a sport. Look at the decline in viewership among young people and the decline in participation. Baseball in the States competes with multiple sports. If MLB wants to regulate young players having fun and playing how they want to play, young people won't be interested. Even the difference between Freeman fans and Acuna fans speaks to the issue. I've only coached in Braves country. The kids like Acuna. They like Albies. Freeman is boring. But whatever, hold your own opinions. If you don't understand the sport is in decline and don't think young players doing what they are doing is good for the game I don't know what to tell you.

Can I ask how much time you spend talking to youth baseball players about who their favorite players are or what their favorite moments are? Do you follow JomBoy at all? Buddy Boy and Manfred have done very little to invest in the future of the game. The young guys are doing it for themselves. If baseball is going to be a sport in 100 years, it’s because big ol’ bat flips, pimp jobs, and flashy play. It’s awesome there. If you’re looking to get a real VT college experience, hit up ToTs sometime over the weekend and chug down a rail. Will get you in the right real quick.
